Abstract

A filler stub with a screw/bayonet fitting cap (1) has a safety catch (13,14) which prevents the cap from being thrown off the fitting if it loosens due to vibration etc. To ensure that the safety catch is engaged every time the cap is fitted the catch is engaged during the initial part of the cap fitting action ie. the operator is in no doubt that the cap is secured. The cap is secured by a screw or bayonet action and is sealed via integral seals (6). An alternate design has the catch engaged before the cap closing action can be applied.

Description

The invention relates to a filling device with a filler neck and a closure cap having an engagement portion, said engagement portion and filler neck complementary engagement elements, for. B. for the purpose of forming a screw or bayonet connection, which can be brought by movement of the closure lid relative to the filler neck from an initial position without engagement via an adjoining engagement path in an end position and vice versa, with a securing device against automatic dropping of the closure lid arranged and formed is that it generates an increased resistance to movement in a certain range of movement of the closure cap.

Such a filling device is known from EP 683 108 A.

Filling devices of the type described above are provided, for example, in internal combustion engines in order to be able to refill and top up oil via them. They have a filler neck which is formed on the engine block or on the cylinder head cover of the internal combustion engine and can be closed with a suitable closure cap. The closure lid has a handling web on top, over which he can be twisted. At the bottom, it projects into the filler neck with an engagement section.

Engagement portion and filler neck have complementary engagement elements to form a screw cap. In a known embodiment, the socket-side engagement elements consist of two opposing engagement projections and the cover-side engagement elements of two helical and not quite over 180 ° extending in the circumferential direction engagement grooves. By placing the cap on the filler neck in one of the designated two rotational positions, the engagement projections come to rest in the initial position immediately before the engagement grooves. By subsequent rotation of the closure lid, the engagement projections engage in the engagement grooves and form a screw connection after reaching the end position.

Since internal combustion engines generate vibrations and vibrations are exposed, there is a risk that the cap automatically comes off and falls. This is associated with significant risks to the engine and therefore undesirable. In the prior art therefore safety devices in the form of anti-rotation are provided which increase the resistance to movement in a certain range of motion so far that an automatic release of the cap is not possible. In the known embodiment, the securing device consists of the groove bottom of the engagement grooves radially outward projecting locking lugs, which are elastically deflected radially inwardly and are run over during engagement of the closure lid of the engagement projections with a short-term increase in the resistance to movement.

The securing lugs are respectively arranged in the region of the ends of the engagement grooves, so that the engagement elements reach their end position when they have just passed over the safety lugs. In this way, the closure lid is held in its end position, so it can not move automatically. In the operation of the closure lid has been found in practice, however, that it is assumed erroneously, it is the end position reached when the resistance to movement increases because of the tarnishing against the locking lugs. The cap is then not rotated further and is henceforth unsecured. After a certain driving time, he twists himself to the starting position and is then thrown off.

The invention has the object of providing a filling device in such a way that it is ensured that the securing device (s) when closing the cap is actually run over or are.

This object is achieved in that the securing device is arranged such that it is effective in the free distance to the end position, ie is run over. The basic idea of the invention is to arrange the securing device in such a way that it is run over well before reaching the end position, preferably in the region of the initial position. If the resistance increases in this area, the user will not yet assume that he has reached the end position, and he will continue to move the cap. In this way, it is ensured with high certainty that the closure cap is prevented by the securing device (s) from automatically releasing itself from the filler neck. It has not been found to be disadvantageous that the closure lid can now move automatically between the end position and the position in which the safety device is effective, by a certain distance in the opening direction.

In training of the invention it is provided that the securing means is arranged such that it is effective towards the end position in the first third of the engagement path, preferably at the beginning of the engagement path, so that it is ensured that the engagement elements are still engaged when the closure lid has moved automatically in the direction of the securing device.

Of course, it is also possible to arrange the securing device such that it is effective in the range of movement before the engagement path, for example, before reaching the initial position, as long as it is only ensured that the cap does not automatically can fall off. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the securing device is arranged such that it is effective in the initial position, ie immediately before the engagement path, so that the closure lid is stopped in an automatic movement in the opening direction before leaving the engagement path.

In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the range of motion consists of an axial path for placing the closure lid until reaching the initial position and then from a circumferential path to reach the end position, wherein the circumferential path comprises the engagement path. In this embodiment, the securing device should be effective in the area of the transition from Axialweg to circumferential path.

The safety device has in known manner an elastically deflectable securing lug on one of the parts filler neck or closure lid, which lies in the range of movement of an engagement member on the other part, wherein the securing lug is preferably arranged on the closure lid. In this case - also in a conventional manner - the socket-side engagement element has an engagement projection and the cover-side engagement element has an engagement groove. The cover-side engagement element may have an axial and a peripheral portion, wherein the securing lug is arranged at the transition from axial to circumferential portion and has ramps in both the axial and in the radial direction.

It is understood that the filler neck and the closure cap can also have a plurality of pairs - preferably two - of complementary engagement elements which are arranged such that the closure lid can be placed in a corresponding number of initial positions, and that then also an equal number of securing devices are provided, preferably so that each pair of complementary engagement elements are each assigned a security device, so that the security devices are run over during the movement of the closure lid simultaneously.

The closure lid 1 shown in the figures has a horizontal cover plate 2, from the top side a handling web 3 stands up. The bottom side is followed by a substantially cylindrically formed engaging portion 4, which is open at the bottom.

The engagement portion 4 has below the cover plate 2 on an annular groove 5, in which an O-ring 6 is inserted. Below the annular groove 5, two engagement grooves 7, 8 are formed in the outer side of the engagement portion 4, which have approximately rectangular cross-section and start diametrically opposite. From their beginnings they screw each about 120 ° upwards and end in attacks 9, 10.

The lower ends of the engagement grooves 7, 8 open into axial grooves 11, 12, which leak to the lower end of the engagement portion 4 free. Radial on the inside, the axial grooves 11, 12 are bounded by a respective securing web 13, 14, which are parts of the engagement portion 4, but are connected to it only on the top side. In this way, they can deflect elastically radially inward. The securing webs 13, 14 have securing lugs 15, 16 which project radially outward. In undeflected State they are in each case over the circumference of the groove bottom of the respective adjacent engagement groove 7, 8, but are compared to the outer periphery of the engagement portion 4 back. On the upper side, the securing lugs 15, 16 are bounded by stop webs 17, 18, which lie approximately at the level of the upper-side boundaries of the engagement grooves 7, 8. To the securing lugs 15, 16 go axial run-on slopes 19, 20 which extend radially outwardly to the securing lugs 15, 16. The engagement grooves 7, 8 opposite the securing webs 13, 14 peripheral chamfers 21, 22 which begin at the outer edges of the securing webs 13, 14 at the level of the respective adjacent groove bottom of the engagement grooves 7, 8 and radially obliquely outwardly to the locking lugs 15, 16th run.

The closure lid 1 shown in Figure 1 is used in Figure 2 from above in a circular filler neck 23 such that its engaging portion 4 projects into the filler neck 23. The filler neck 23 is part of a cylinder head cover 24, not shown here. The filler neck 23 is used to fill with oil, which then runs through corresponding channels in the oil pan of the engine.

The filler neck 23 has two diametrically opposite and radially inwardly projecting engagement projections 25, 26, whose axial extent is dimensioned so that they can retract into the engagement grooves 7, 8. In Figure 2, the closure lid 1 is axially inserted in such a position and so far that the engagement projections 25, 26 in the axial grooves 11, 12 engage and the securing webs 13, 14 sit on the upper edges of the engagement projections 25, 26, ie these upper edges have contact with the lower portions of the axial run-on slopes 19, 20. Thus, the engagement projections 25, 26 in height the respective input ends of the engagement grooves 7, 8 come to rest, the closure lid 1 must be pressed axially down until the tops of the engagement projections 25, 26 come to rest on the stop webs 17, 18. The axial run-on slopes 19, 20 cause the securing webs 13, 14 to pivot radially inward, whereby a certain resistance is generated during the axial movement of the closure lid 1. With engagement of the engagement projections 25, 26 on the stop webs 17, 18, the initial position is achieved in the above sense, in which the engagement projections 25, 26 are located in front of the input ends of the axial grooves 11, 12. This situation can be seen in FIG.

Now, the closure lid 1 can be rotated in the direction of arrow A in such a way that the engagement projections 25, 26 retract into the engagement grooves 7, 8. As a result, the closure cap 1 screws into the filler neck 23 until the engagement projections 25, 26 abut against the stops 9, 10 at the ends of the engagement grooves 7, 8 and thus the closure cap 1 has reached its end position.

If the closure lid 1 is twisted as a result of vibrations or other influences in the direction of its initial position, The engagement projections 24, 25 at the end of the engagement grooves 7, 8 abut against the peripheral chamfers 21, 22, as can be seen from Figure 4. These act as stops, because despite their ramp-like training emanating from the engine vibrations are not able to bend the securing webs 13, 14 radially inwardly. This ensures that the closure lid 1 can not fall off the filler neck 23.

If you want to solve the cap 1 of the filler neck 23, you twist it from its respective position in the direction of arrow B in such a way that the engagement projections 25, 26 approach against the peripheral chamfers 21, 22. By increasing the force to be applied, the engagement projections 25, 26 ride over the circumferential chamfers 21, 22 up to the locking lugs 15, 16 and thereby bend the securing webs 13, 14 radially inwardly. Subsequently, the closure lid 1 can be pulled out axially upwards.

Since the securing webs 13, 14 are arranged with their locking lugs 15, 16 at the beginning of the engagement grooves 7, 8, the increase in the resistance to movement during the transition from the axial to the circumferential movement and vice versa is generated. This ensures that the operator also overcomes this resistance to movement and does not conceive as an end stop. Nevertheless, an automatic drop of the cap 1 is not possible.
