Abstract

The pipe cutter consists of a handle (2) with a recess (3) in its head to receive a blade (4), and a fixing plate (6) with a screw (7) to hold the blade in place. The head and fixing plate have curved ribs (10, 12) which engage with grooves in the pipe while the blade cuts through the crest of the corrugation between the grooves. The ribs project from shoulders (16, 17) on the head and fixing plate which act as wear indicators for the ribs.

Description

L'invention concerne un outil pour tronconner un conduit annelé (voir e.g. US-A-4912847).The invention relates to a tool for cutting a pipe. ringed (see e.g. US-A-4912847).

A corrugated duct is a body of revolution, of section circular or other, the wall of which has sinusoidal undulations, of regular profile or not. Such corrugated plastic pipes are used to contain electrical or optical conductors, conduits pneumatic or hydraulic circuit.

Increasingly, corrugated conduits are filled, as soon as they manufacturing, by the network they must protect and are supplied in rolls, that must be cut on demand.

Currently, this cutting is carried out manually by a cutting tool, cutter type, which is engaged radially in the hollow of a wave, then is moved circularly around the conduit. The engagement in the hollow of the wave makes it possible to use the flanks of the waves juxtaposed as a means of guiding the blade and as a means of protection for the operator, but has the disadvantage of allowing the sharp blade penetrating the heart of the conduit. As a result, the networks contained in the conduit, and invisible from the outside, can be more or less severely injured by the blade.

To remedy this, it would be necessary to ensure the cut on the top of a wave, but this is very difficult with a common cutting tool, because, in the absence of guidance, the tool tends to drift in a wave trough by making a cut that is not orthogonal to the axis of the duct and interfering with the subsequent connection thereof.

The object of the present invention is to remedy this by improving a cutting-off tool comprising a handle, one of the ends is provided with means for positioning a sharp blade projecting from said end, and a blade clamping plate.

To this end, in the tool according to the invention, the plate and the end of the handle, receiving the blade and said plate, are provided each and, on either side of the projecting part of the blade, of a rib having a cross section complementary to that of a hollow wavelength longer than the depth of this trough, but the end of which is separated from the edge of the blade by a distance less than the height of the corrugations.

To cut a corrugated pipe with this tool, just the operator to engage the two ribs of the tool in two hollow waves juxtaposed until the cutting edge of the blade enters the vertex between the two troughs, then from there circularly move the tool around the pipe. During this trip, the tool is perfectly guided by its ribs circulating in the hollows wave, so that its sharp blade cuts evenly and orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the duct.

Another advantage of this tool is that the sharp blade is perfectly protected by the two ribs and that it cannot hurt the operator.

Finally, the cut being made on a wave vertex, with control of the penetration of the blade into the duct, the blade cannot in no case exceed the bottom of a trough and, consequently, risk to injure the elements placed in the duct.

The invention will be better understood using the description which follows with reference to the accompanying schematic drawing.

Figure 1 est une vue en perspective éclatée montrant les éléments constitutifs de l'outil,Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view showing the components of the tool,

Figures 2 and 3 are side views in section of the tool, respectively before engagement in a corrugated conduit and during sectioning of this conduit.

As shown in Figure 1, the cut-off tool is composed a handle 2, one end of which is provided, on the one hand, with a housing 3 for receiving a sharp blade 4, and on the other hand, a housing 5 for receiving a clamping plate 6. In the form of execution shown, the plate 6 is linked to the handle 2 by a screw 7, passing through a bore 8, passing through a bore 4a of the blade cut 4 and screwed into a threaded bore 9, or into an insert of round 2.

According to the invention, the end of the handle receiving the blade section 4 has a projecting rib 10, while the plate 6 has a projecting rib 12.

Figure 2 shows that when the components of the sectioning are assembled, the two ribs 10 and 12 are arranged symmetrically on either side of the sharp blade 4 and so as to correspond to two waves 13 framing a vertex 14 of the conduit 15 which must be sectioned.

More specifically, each rib 10 has a cross section complementary to a trough 13 and a length L which is greater than the depth c of a trough. Furthermore, the top of each rib 10 and 12 projects from the cutting edge 4b of the blade 4 with a value S which is less than the height H of the undulations.

La figure 1 montre que les nervures 10 et 12 sont curvilignes et comportent des rayons de courbure centrés sur l'axe longitudinal du conduit, lorsque l'outil est en position d'utilisation comme montrée à la figure 3.Figure 1 shows that the ribs 10 and 12 are curvilinear and have radii of curvature centered on the longitudinal axis of the conduit, when the tool is in the use position as shown in the figure 3.

Each rib projects from a cylindrical seat, respectively 16 for the handle, and 17 for the plate 6 which forms a wear indicator.

To cut a corrugated duct 15 using the tool, it suffice, as shown in FIG. 2, to position the two ribs 10 and 12 opposite two wave hollows 13, then engaging these ribs in the waves until the blade 4 penetrates and passes through the material of a wave vertex 14, as shown in FIG. 3. Under these conditions, the blade is perfectly guided in translation by support of the two ribs 10 and 12 on the faces of the troughs adjoining the vertex, and all movement of the tool around the duct allows a cut regular, orthogonal to its longitudinal axis. This cut on the top of a wave is controlled in depth by the ribs 10, 12, such so that the cutting edge 4b of the blade does not exceed the bottom of the wave trough. Under these conditions, the electrical or optical conduits 18 disposed in the corrugated conduit are not likely to be cut for the cutting operation.

If repeated use of the tool results in wear of the ribs 10 and 12, the contact of faces 16 and 17 with the wave vertices indicates that the tool must be replaced, because it can then allow the sharp blade to penetrate deeper into the duct by going beyond the bottom of the ripples with the risk of injuring arranged network elements in this conduit.

Figures 2 and 3 show that both at rest and during when used, the tool provides optimal protection for the operator and avoids any risk of injury.

The same tool can be used with diameter pipes different but with similar grooves.
