Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for determining the oxygen content of a measuring gas with a sensor as well as the use of the sensor according to the procedure.
- the sensor points an oxygen ion-conducting solid electrolyte, which removes the sample gas from a Reference gas separates, and which has at least one reference electrode on its reference gas side and has a first and a second measuring electrode on its measuring gas side and the first measuring electrode is covered by a diffusion-limiting layer, a first Measuring cell consisting of the covered first measuring electrode, the solid electrolyte and the reference electrode is formed, operated amperometrically according to the limit current principle and in parallel, a second measuring cell, which consists of the second measuring electrode, the solid electrolyte and the reference electrode is formed, is operated potentiometrically.
- FIG. 7 shows a section through a tubular gas sensor simultaneous potentiometric oxygen and amperometric oxygen and nitrogen oxide determination. A targeted utilization of the individual sensor signals with certain gas compositions is not scheduled.
- DE 43 20 881 A1 discloses a sensor for determining a lambda value in one Gas mixture in which a heated lambda probe with a step sensor characteristic and combined another heated lambda probe with broadband sensor characteristics are.
- the output signal of the lambda probe with step sensor characteristics is used to calibrate the lambda probe with broadband sensor characteristics.
- the lambda probe disclosed here with a jump-shaped sensor characteristic makes a lambda 1 a jump in resistance, while the lambda probe with broadband sensor characteristic one continuously and preferably in the range of lambda 0.8 to 1.2 linearly changing resistance.
- oxygen-sensitive layers are used as sensitive materials for the two resistive lambda probes oxygen-sensitive layers are used. A determination of lambda greater than 1.2 is not possible with this sensor arrangement.
- the problem is solved for the method by determining the oxygen content of the Measuring gas by the first and the second measuring cell in a serial manner and that the Oxygen content of the measuring gas through the second measuring cell in a lambda range of 0.8 to 1.4 is determined and by the first measuring cell in a lambda range of ⁇ 1 to 20 is determined.
- Use or evaluation of the output signal of a The measuring cell therefore only takes place if there is a certain lambda in the sample gas. It deals is therefore a "series connection" of the measuring ranges, through which an exact measurement of Lambda in the range from 0.8 to approx. 20 is made possible and the measurement accuracy at high like is high at low lambda. This selection of the corresponding output signal in a simple manner.
- the output signal of the second, potentiometrically operated Measuring cell for various regulation or control measures in combustion processes, preferred in a motor vehicle, while a lambda of ⁇ 1 to about 20 the output signal of the first measuring cell is used for this.
- the evaluation can be done both in a serial manner and done in parallel.
- the accuracy of the measurement is increased even more if the second measuring cell is used regularly a calibration value or output signal setpoint stored in an electronic control unit is calibrated when the sample gas is at a lambda value of 1 located.
- the first measuring cell can then be all the more accurate with the help of the second measuring cell be calibrated.
- An additional recording of the current temperature of the measuring cells is included in the these calibration procedures advantageous to purely temperature-related shifts in the output signals to be able to determine and take into account.
- a sensor with an oxygen ion-conducting Solid electrolyte which separates a sample gas from a reference gas, and at least a reference electrode on the reference gas side and a first and a second Measuring electrode on the measuring gas side of the solid electrolyte, the measuring electrodes being independent are arranged from each other and the first measuring electrode from a diffusion-limiting Layer is covered, and with a temperature sensor arranged electrically isolated from the solid electrolyte and / or electric heating element, is for performing the invention
- the method is excellently suited.
- the reference electrodes 3a and 3b are located on the reference gas side 2 of the solid electrolyte 1, which is formed, for example, from yttrium-doped ZrO 2 .
- the measuring electrode 4 shown here including the electrical supply line, which forms a measuring cell with the reference electrode 3b and the solid electrolyte 1, which is operated potentiometrically to determine lambda.
- the measuring electrode 5 shown here including the electrical supply line
- the measuring electrode 5 which is covered with a diffusion-limiting layer 6 and which forms a further measuring cell with the reference electrode 3a and the solid electrolyte 1, which is operated amperometrically to determine lambda is used.
- FIG. 2 shows the oxygen sensor from FIG. 1 in cross section.
- an electrical heating element 8 for example made of platinum.
- the heating element 8 is made of an electrically insulating layer 9, for example Aluminum oxide, insulated from the solid electrolyte 1.
- Temperature sensors for example on the reference gas side 2, are provided.
- the method can be carried out according to the invention by using an oxygen sensor 1 or FIG. 2 installed in the exhaust system of a motor vehicle becomes.
- the oxygen sensor is heated to operating temperature with the help of the heating element 8 heated and the lambda of the exhaust gas determined with both measuring cells.
- An electronic control unit uses the output signals of the two measuring cells to check whether the lambda in the sample gas is above or below 1 and uses the output signal the potentiometrically operated measuring cell if Lambda ⁇ 1.1 or that Output signal of the amperometrically operated measuring cell, if Lambda> 1.1, for example to control the fuel supply of the motor vehicle. With a continuous increase of the lambda value in the exhaust gas changes the use of the output signal with lambda 1.1 from the potentiometric measuring cell to the amperometric measuring cell.
- Example 1 can be optimized by the following additional process steps. Will with A lambda of 1.1 is measured in the potentiometric measuring cell, so the current output signal calibrated the amperometric measuring cell of the oxygen sensor. Using one in the electronic control unit stored lambda current table becomes a lambda Output signal setpoint belonging to 1.1 of the amperometrically operated measuring cell (here a Current determined in A). The output signal setpoint is then measured with the output signal compared and in the event of a deviation a calibration of the amperometrically operated Measuring cell made.
