The method according to any of the preceding Claims, characterized in that the axial ends (14b) of the bristle tufts (14) protrude from the holes (12) on the surface of the carrier (10) facing the punch (16) and are held axially during the movement of the punch (16) against the ends (14b) of the bristle tufts (14).
  9. A device for carrying out the method according to any of the preceding Claims, consisting of a carrier (10) provided with holes (12) corresponding to a desired hole pattern and bristle tufts (14) inserted in the holes (12) and a heatable punch (16) including an engagement surface having a multitude of projections (18) which are arranged according to the hole pattern of the carrier (10), characterized in that on penetration of the projections (18) between the holes (12) into the mass of the carrier (10) the mass is softened and displaced laterally as far as into the interstices between the bristles of the bristle tufts (14).
