Definitions
- the invention relates to a dispenser with a manually operable dispensing device, in particular for dispensing a batch in one or a few strokes.
- Such a dispenser has become known from EP 218 840 (corresponding to US 4 921 142). It has a housing, a gripping surface provided thereon for supporting at least one finger and a dispensing section with a dispensing opening, e.g. an atomizing nozzle and with an actuating button for actuating the dispensing device. It also has a removable protective cap that covers the discharge opening. These protective caps are provided to prevent contamination of the dispensing opening, since dispensers of this type mostly dispense pharmaceutical products.
- the dispenser is operated with the thumb, which presses on the actuation button. This is largely from the housing covers and only accessible through a cutout, which corresponds approximately to the thumb profile, to prevent it from being operated unintentionally.
- Such dispensers often contain medications that are ready for immediate use by the patient.
- Medications applied to the nasal mucosa because from there they get into the bloodstream the fastest and most tolerably.
- Medications to combat migraines and other headaches are administered in this way.
- the object of the invention is to further improve such a dispenser with regard to security against accidental activation.
- the protective cap has blocking means for blocking the actuating button.
- the protective cap is removed anyway and releases the actuation button for actuation.
- an embodiment is particularly preferred in which the protective cap also covers the grip surface to prevent actuation.
- accidental actuation before the protective cap is removed is also prevented in that the user does not find any contact surface for the actuation.
- he can put his thumb on the actuation button, he does not find any resistance that is normally found by the index and middle fingers on the surface of the handle. This signals to him that he must first remove the protective cap before operating. Even if he found resistance on the protective cap, it would not lead to an accidental actuation.
- the force application would remain within the protective cap, i.e. the force exerted on the actuation button would not be transmitted to the housing and the delivery device.
- tamper evidence for such dispensers has already been described in WO 96/24439. This is done by means of predetermined breaking material bridges between the housing and the functional unit which can be moved upon actuation and which consists of actuation pushers and pump cylinders and, if appropriate, a sleeve which receives the pump cylinder.
- This tamper-evident device which at the same time generates a pressure point (minimum force) ensuring complete discharge, can also be used in the present invention. Since the predetermined breaking force must be set so that the dispenser can be actuated for use, it cannot prevent accidental use, but can only signal it. Therefore, a combination of these pressure point / tamper-evident features with the actuation protection through the protective cap make sense and are advantageous.
- the invention is particularly advantageously applicable to disposable atomizers or those which deliver a batch in a few successive strokes or stroke sections.
- the protective cap can be put back on after an actuation phase, then it also makes sense for other dispensers that are designed for numerous strokes.
- the dispenser is used to indicate flowable media, in particular liquid pharmaceuticals in atomized or dosed form.
- Fig. 3 is a bottom view of a dispenser with a protective cap and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a
- the dispenser 11 shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 is a one-time atomizer which delivers its entire batch in one stroke. It has a housing 12 which has an elongate discharge section 13. It protrudes in the middle from an oval, plan view-like, epaulette-like gripping surface 14 of the housing that protrudes on two sides. On the outside edge of the grip surface
- a housing jacket 15 which is directed opposite the dispensing section 13 and has an actuating cutout 16 on each of its flatter sides.
- the space formed by the housing jacket 15 is closed at the bottom by an actuating button 80, the underside of which forms an actuating surface 17.
- the actuating button 80 has an inverted bowl or cap shape with a jacket 81 which adjoins the actuating surface 17 and engages in the housing jacket 15. It is on the housing jacket by means of snap elements 82 which engage in one another like barbs
- the jacket 81 covers the actuating cutout 16.
- the actuating button 80 presses via webs 83 onto a sleeve 18 which receives a glass ampoule 19, also supported by webs 20 in the sleeve.
- this ampoule forms the storage for the liquid or pasty medium 50 to be dispensed and, on the other hand, a pump cylinder for a
- Spreading device 84 which works in the manner of a thrust piston pump.
- Sleeve 18 and ampoule 19 have the shape of elongated, deep, circular cylindrical containers.
- the ampoule 19 is closed off by a sealing plug 26, which is made of a rubber-like material and lies sealingly against the circular-cylindrical wall of the ampoule. It is elongated and has central recesses 28 from each of its end faces, which are separated by a central web 29. This forms a pierceable membrane. Sleeve 18 and ampoule 19 protrude centrally and centrally in the
- the slightly conical, but predominantly cylindrical, elongate discharge section 13 is delimited at the top by a hemispherical end 57.
- the discharge opening 44 in the form of a spray nozzle is provided in the center.
- a piston shaft 34 protrudes from the end 57 into the interior of the dispensing section 13 and is pressed into a socket 56 inside the dispensing section 13.
- This hollow shaft has a steel needle 37 in its central bore, the sharpened end of which is directed towards the web 29 in the sealing plug or piston 26.
- a protective cap 90 can be put over the dispenser 11, which covers the entire dispensing section 13 and the gripping surfaces 14.
- the protective cap like most parts of the dispenser made of plastic, is adapted in its base to the oval shape of the grip surfaces 14 and from there forms a hood-shaped, tapered, upwardly closed space.
- the lower edge 91 of this protective cap overlaps an edge recess 92 on the housing, so that the protective cap in the fitted state is a continuous continuation of the Housing shell 15 forms.
- the result is a body that resembles a pocket lighter in shape and can therefore be easily transported and handled.
- two lateral projections 93 are formed, which protrude downward like a web from the middle of the flat sides, through cutouts 94. They each engage in a recess 95 on the upper edge of the casing 81 of the actuation button and lie through there a releasable snap connection 96 firmly. They secure the protective cap against being easily pulled off upwards. At the same time, however, their ends 97 are supported in the recess 95 and thus form blocking means 98 which, when the protective cap is attached, cause the actuating pushbutton 80 to move upwards, i.e. in the direction of actuation.
- the dispenser filled with a pharmaceutical as medium 50 is supplied with a protective cap 90 attached.
- an actuation is not possible because the actuation button 80 is prevented from moving by the blocking means 98.
- the actuating pushbutton 80 In the event of pressure on the actuating pushbutton 80, it is supported via its recess 95 at the ends 97 of the projections 93, which transmit the force to the protective cap.
- the dispenser is ready for use. Now the user can place his index finger and middle finger on the grip surfaces 14 and press the actuation surface 17 of the pusher 18 with his thumb. Before the movement of the functional unit sleeve 18 / ampoule 19 / piston 26 upwards is a
- the size of which is determined by the predetermined breaking force of the material bridges 33. This ensures that the application starts with sufficient pressure and is carried out in one go. Then the sleeve 18 is moved over the webs 43 and the ampoule 19 is moved upward over the webs 20. The needle 37 pierces the web 29 of the sealing plug 26 and establishes the connection to the discharge opening 44. The lower end face 52 of the piston shaft 34 then hits the top of the sealing plug and presses it into the piston as a pump piston
- the dispensing device works as a non-reversible thrust piston pump and sprays the medium through the dispensing opening 44 with a force predetermined by the pressure point function.
- the protective cap 90 makes the dispenser into an easily manageable and actuatable device which can be transported by the patient without risk of contamination or unintentional actuation and is immediately ready for operation by pulling off the protective cap.
- the form of the protective cap which complements the housing and continues the design, produces not only an aesthetic but also a design that provides the user with an obvious function.
- the dispenser 11 shown in perspective in FIG. 4 corresponds in all details and also in function to that according to FIGS. 1 to 3. Here are only those
- Blocking means 98 forming web-like projections 93 from the Installed in the middle of the flat sides on the round narrow sides of the protective cap.
- the projections 93 have no snap connection at their ends 97, but are designed as continuous T-shaped webs which engage in cutouts 94 in the housing.
- the protective cap 90 is secured against detachment from the housing 12 via locking lugs 99 on the middle of the flat inner sides of the protective cap 90.
- the locking lugs 99 engage in corresponding recesses 100 in the region of the peripheral edge recess 92 of the housing and fix the protective cap in a barb-like manner. It is thus secured against being pulled off the housing, which further improves the blocking of the actuation button.
- the user presses on the pressure surfaces 101 which indicate this actuation by means of appropriate corrugation. In this way, he presses the protective cap somewhat together, so that the barb-like locking lugs 99 are released from the recesses 100 by appropriate expansion of the oval profile of the protective cap, and the Protective cap can be removed.
