Description

The present invention relates to the field of articles for smoking.

More specifically, the invention relates to the field of such articles using at least one reconstituted tobacco leaf.

It has been proposed in patent application FR-97 15845 of the Applicant, an article allowing a consumer to prepare himself a cigarillo, this article including in particular a set of reconstituted tobacco leaves intertwined to allow automatic distribution by successive traction on the different sheets.

In such an article, reconstituted tobacco leaves, called still tobacco leaves, are applied a trickle of glue on one of their borders. Once dried this net of glue, the leaves are entangled in each other.

The net of glue allows once the leaf rolled on itself, of stick the border on the roll thus formed. In particular, we use, as that glue, food glues allowing the user to stick the border with his saliva.

In the case of sheets coated with a net of food glue, the glue used can be either a cold glue deposited at temperature convection dried, ie a hot glue, for example a natural gum arabic or a hot-applied synthetic glue with radiation drying (infrared type) located at the right of the glue net, or in a convective oven.

Current techniques for setting up such glue nets are not satisfactory.

In particular, it turns out that the tobacco leaf absorbs the gum in such a proportion that the sheet provided with the gum net does not only poor adhesion properties.

The leaves provided with a net of glue proposed until now make it possible to realize that cigarillos are particularly fragile.

The main purpose of the invention is to propose a tobacco leaf reconstituted whose net of glue gambling one of its edges produces a satisfactory fixation of this border on the rest of the sheet.

This object is achieved in the context of the present invention by a piece of reconstituted tobacco coated with a net of glue along one of its borders, characterized in that the linear mass of the glue net the dry state is greater than 70mg / m.

According to another aspect of the invention, a method is proposed application of such a net glue on a reconstituted tobacco leaf thanks tobacco leaf retains some elasticity after place the glue net. Indeed, in the case of known processes application of a net of glue, it is used a drying of the net of glue that also produces a drying of the leaf and makes it brittle. This weakening effect is such that the manufacture of a smoking article where this leaf should be strongly curved becomes almost impossible.

A method according to the invention for applying a net of glue is a in which the glue is dried by heating the sheet provided with this net, and in which the moisture of the leaf is maintained during this drying beyond 7%.

According to an advantageous characteristic of the invention, a process using an oven equipped with means for translating the sheets, these means passing through the oven, and having means for spraying water at the inlet of the furnace and at least one nozzle blowing air which is arranged so as to blow on the net of glue.

Other features, purposes and benefits of this invention will appear on reading the detailed description which follows.

The gums proposed so far for tobacco leaves are substantially the same as those used on cigarette paper classic. However, these gums appeared difficult to use in this specific application, since they only provide Particularly reduced attachment to tobacco leaves.

In addition, we usually put a gum net on a tobacco leaf with a linear mass of gum of about 40 to 50 mg / m, such a quantity of glue being considered as a quantity particularly high.

Indeed, to dry such a quantity of glue, we must already do to undergo the leaves a heating which weakens it particularly.

Indeed, reconstituted tobacco leaf is particularly sensitive humidity variations, and in particular, during the exfoliation, the drying of the gum by the heat reduces the moisture of reconstituted tobacco by 14% to approximately 4%, which has the effect of weakening the sheet to such an extent that it is not more practically possible to manipulate it without producing a large number breaks.

In addition, by reducing the drying applied to the leaf, the first effect is that the gum is only incompletely dried, while the leaf already has a very embarrassing fragility.

The fact that the gum is dried only incompletely produces unwanted collages when rewinding the sheet, or when subsequent manipulation, this problem being added to the fragility of the leaf. An entanglement operation becomes in particular practically impossible.

Starting from this situation, the technicians of the field of leaves of reconstituted tobacco did not seek to increase the amount of glue of the net, such an increase, however slight, being only present disadvantages.

The inventors have found that, surprisingly, beyond a linear mass of the adhesive net in the dry state of about 70 mg / m, it has particularly effective adhesion properties, and that it is possible beyond such a quantity of glue to make a dry net without weakening the leaf by drying to the point of making it unusable.

Preferably, in terms of mechanical strength, the sheet of tobacco is provided with a gum net of linear weight between 80 and 100 mg / m in the dry state, with a holding effect and ease of implementation particularly surprising between 90 and 95 mg / m in the dry state. The mass in the dry state means the mass of glue after drying, or mass dry extract of the glue.

To produce a satisfactory drying of such a net avoiding the effect of embrittlement observed so far, the drying of the net is carried out in an oven equipped with demineralised water spray booms inside this one. In the embodiment described here, the net of glue is deposited just before the baking of the reconstituted tobacco leaf.

The oven is here a convective oven provided with means of training leaves that cross it. The oven has a length of about 10 to 15 m. It has an inlet spray boom and a ramp disposed substantially in the middle of the oven.

These spray bars help hold moisture enough leaf during the entire scrubbing operation and in especially during drying.

Thus, during all operations, and in particular during the baking process, the sheet is kept at a humidity between 12 and 14%.

With such a maintenance of moisture in this range, the sheet gummed present at the outlet of the oven a moisture of about 8 to 10%.

These moisture conditions have been identified as optimal for allow further handling of the leaf without excessive loss of tobacco leaves due to possible breakage.

More generally, it ensures in accordance with the invention to maintain a sufficient moisture of the leaf during the operation of exfoliation, preferably a humidity greater than 7%.

One or more air ramps are available at the outlet of the oven compressed forming nozzles focused on the gum nets.

These arrangements are particularly effective for drying the gum without drying the sheet and in particular to dry any excess of this gum.

In known manner, the ovens used for drying the gum placed on tobacco leaves are kept at a temperature between 120 and 140 ° C.

Usually also, the deposit of the rubber on the sheet as well as transport during the drying of the sheet in the oven itself done at a speed, called scrubbing speed, which is between 60 and 80 m / min.

The inventors were able to determine a furnace temperature particularly conducive to efficient drying of the gum while allowing a maintenance of the moisture of the tobacco leaf in the ranges previously mentioned.

Thus, in accordance with the invention, an oven temperature is used which is chosen between approximately 70 and 90 ° C, and a speed of scrub approximately between 18 and 20 m / min. For the oven of 15 m used here, this speed of movement corresponds to a time optimal drying by heating about 45 seconds. More generally, the ideal heating time is between 30 seconds and 1 minute.

Thanks to these provisions, the gummed tobacco leaf obtained present at the outlet of the oven a humidity between 8 and 10% and a net of perfectly dry gum.

These conditions are optimal for moving to the operation entanglement in the case where a distributor of sheets is made entangled.

Dans un tel cas, on utilise un four ayant une longueur d'approximativement 2 à 4m.Of course, these conditions have been described in relation to the use of a convection oven, but we can also adapt them to the use of a radiative furnace. In such a case, an oven having a length of approximately 2 to 4m.

In the present process, the tobacco leaf is stored at its output of the oven on bobbins. Then these reels are protected from evaporation by packaging in a waterproof plastic film or any other sealed envelope.

Preferably and according to the invention, it controls also the moisture of the tobacco leaf during the operation of interleaving.

For this, demineralised water spray booms are put in place at the entrance of a device performing entanglement.

Of course, the provisions described here are not limited to making a smoking article with entangled leaves.

The tobacco leaf and the methods described herein may be in the The scope of the invention applies to the production of any other smoking article.
