Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a spring contact for low volume electrical connector and a connector comprising such a contact. It finds more particularly its use in the field of telecommunications, especially in the context of the miniaturization of mobile phones. This type of contact is generally but not exclusively used to connect, reversibly, a battery and a printed circuit located inside a mobile phone. More generally, this type of contact is intended to electrically connect any two devices. Currently, this spring contact is soldered by a first end surface on a printed circuit, and has at a second end a flexible tongue which is bent over the first end. This flexible tongue can come into contact with the pads of a battery presented above the connector containing the contacts.

The connectors mounted in mobile phones, have a generally parallelepiped shape. This type of connector has housings or compartments, which contain the spring contacts. These housings open on the one hand on a first face, called lower, and secondly on a second face, said upper, the connector. The lower face comes into contact on a printed circuit and the upper face comes into contact with the battery. A spring contact, inserted in this housing, has a substantially U-shaped shape having two branches or arms, and a base or bend of the U, connecting the two branches by one of their end. The base of the U has a circular arc shape and extends in a plane perpendicular to the planes of the first and second face of the connector. Each branch is intended to make electrical contact with equipment.
The first leg of the U is fixed, for example welded, to a printed circuit placed against the first face of the connector. The second branch forms a bump protruding from the second face of the connector.
The total height of the U is formed by the addition of three heights. These heights are defined by the shortest distance separating two planes, parallel to the plane of the printed circuit, containing points of the spring contact. A first height is constituted by the distance separating a welding point of the first branch with the printed circuit of a junction point between the first branch and the base. A second height is equal to a cord of the base corresponding to the distance between the two extreme points constituting the arc of a circle. A third height is constituted by the distance separating a point of the second branch, the highest relative to the base, of a point of contact between the second branch and the base. A thickness of the connector is defined by the shortest distance connecting the first face to the second face. The thickness of the connector is less than the total height of the contact, because the spring contact is provided to partially sink inside the housing of the connector, when forced. In one example, such a connector has a thickness of 3.2 millimeters.
The current trend of miniaturization of electronic devices, such as mobile phones, leads to a desire to reduce the size of the different elements making up these objects. In particular, the connectors included in these objects must be reduced, so that their thickness is for example up to 1.8 millimeters, all other proportions kept.
In the state of the art, the reduction of the thickness of the connectors and the total height of the spring contacts they contain is only possible at the cost of a significant increase in the width or length of the these connectors and these contacts. Indeed, the current structure of the spring contacts requires that the total height reduction of the spring contacts can be achieved only by playing on the first and third heights of the spring contact. But to preserve the technical characteristics of these contacts, the decrease of the first and third heights requires the thickening or widening of the blades of these contacts, especially for the blade of the second branch. Thus the widening of the contact blades results in an overall enlargement of the connector. So the overall decrease in connector volume can not be achieved. The current structure of spring contacts therefore poses a problem of miniaturization of these connectors.
On the other hand, this type of connector, to be mounted on the surface on a printed circuit, is apprehended by suction pipettes. These pipettes must be brought into contact only with areas of the connector not having locally spring contacts. The presence of such a zone, generally in the central position of this type of connector, necessarily implies an increase in the width of the connector. As a result, this type of connector is currently apprehended by two pipettes, each disposed at one end of the connector. This represents another problem of difficulty in handling the connectors of the technique.
The object of the invention is to remedy the problems mentioned by proposing a spring contact for a connector, having a substantially U-shaped shape, having two branches and a base connecting the two branches by one of their ends, each branch being intended for make electrical contact with equipment.
According to the invention, the two branches extend in planes diverging with respect to each other, the intersection of these two planes being contained in the base of the U.
The spring contact then has a lower total height than the spring contact of the prior art.
To further reduce the total height of the contact, one of the branches and the base of the U are in the same plane.
In addition, to simplify the connection, the electrical contact of at least one of the branches is positioned on the free end of said branch.
According to a second aspect, the invention relates to a connector electrical, provided with a first face and a second face opposite to the first face, and comprising at least one housing for receiving a spring contact according to the invention. The housing is open on both sides of the connector, and the spring contact is positioned in the housing so that the plane in which the base of the U extends is substantially parallel to the plane of the faces of the connector.
The base connecting the first and the second branch is located inside the housing. This base has a plane of curvature which is substantially parallel to the first and second faces. The increase in width of the spring contact here implies a small increase in the width of the connector. Indeed, the contacts are arranged in such a way that the first branches of the contacts on the first face are opposite with interspaces of the second branch on the second face. Thus the overall volume of the connector is reduced, which was previously impossible.
To ensure proper positioning of the contact in the housing, the connector comprises means for guiding the spring contact.
To keep this good positioning, it also comprises holding means.
Dans le cas où il serait nécessaire de faire appel à plusieurs connections, le connecteur comporte plusieurs logements, recevant respectivement un contact à ressort en U.In the case where it would be necessary to use several connections, the connector has a plurality of housings, respectively receiving a U-spring contact.
So that the volume of this connector remains low enough, the spring contacts are positioned in two adjacent housings, so as to extend in a substantially identical direction but in opposite directions relative to each other, a branch of a contact being adjacent to a branch of the neighboring contact.
On the other hand the arrangement of the branches of the spring contacts is organized so as to generate a spring-free contact area in the middle of the second face. This area can be used to apply a pipette. Thus the connector can be apprehended by a single suction pipette.

The
According to the invention, the two
In addition, in the example shown, the plane 11.1 of the
The connector has an axis of symmetry orthogonal to the first and
In the case where it is necessary to have several points of contact, the connector comprises several housings for example 4a, 4b, respectively receiving a spring contact 7a; 7b. The contacts are positioned to extend in a substantially identical direction but in opposite directions relative to each other, a leg 1a of a contact 7a being adjacent to a
The arrangement of the contacts relative to each other in the
The connector further comprises recesses or
