Definitions
- the technical field of the present invention is that of the protection of turrets of armored vehicles and particularly at the gun embrasure.
- the barrel In most turrets, the barrel is integral of a journal axis located inside and we finds a mask on the outside made up of the part massive front of the turret itself. Protection at level of the gun embrasure, which is the opening in the turret allowing the passage and the movement in site of the barrel, is provided directly by the mask itself. However, in some turrets, the mask is removed and the articulation of the barrel with respect to this turret is completely internal. The gun embrasure then constitutes a less protected area. The reduction in the embrasure of the canon does not significantly reduce the protective holes.
- a protection device according to the preamble of the claim 1 is known from document EP-A-0 023 441.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a protective device to increase the level protection in the frontal arch (area on the ground in front of the vehicle), decrease the protective holes around the piloting area.
- the shielded box includes a internal frontal element integral with the shell and a external front element linked to the plate, the shielding being integrated in the external front element, for example.
- the armored front box is extended by a side box armored integral with the carapace of the vehicle.
- An advantage of the present invention lies in the turret protection continuity since there is no no pivoting part.
- Another advantage is that the shielding elements are fixed.
- the solution chosen therefore consists in placing deliberately part of the armor in front of the hatch, which allows free space above it. The pilot then reaches his post by a passage located between a shielding box and the shell of the turret. Accessibility to the cockpit is therefore not modified and the pre-existing opening in the cash register vehicle is not transformed.
- FIG. 1 shows the upper part of chassis 1 of a armored vehicle comprising on the left side with respect at the gun a hatch 2 intended for the passage of the pilot.
- This chassis receives a turret 3 carrying a barrel 4 mounted known manner and delimiting the embrasure 5 allowing the passage of said barrel and its deflection on site.
- This embrasure 5 defines front parts 6 and 7 on the one hand and other of the barrel 4 constituting protective holes that it is a question of decreasing. Protection of the right side not a problem since it is enough to report shields according to the desired level of protection in reducing the front part 7 7 to a value almost nothing. On the other hand, the protection of the left part does not can be done in an obvious way because the hatch 2 must be left free to access.
- armor plates 8 extending along the barrel 4 and at close proximity to it, and a front box shielded 9 rigidly connecting the plates 8 and the turret shell 3.
- the casing 9 is connected to a the surface of the shell 10 sufficiently distant from the doorway, being provided with a corresponding surface.
- the box 9 includes a side box 12 completing the adjacent profile of this box 9 and the shell 10.
- the box 9 is extended if necessary by boxes 13 and 14.
- FIG. 2 shows a top view of turret 3 fitted with inlet hatches 20 and 21.
- the plates 8 have a shape that allows you to get as close as possible as close as possible to barrel 4 and to match the shape of the part frontal of the turret 3, while allowing the passage of the coaxial machine gun by an extension 22.
- the box 9 consists of a front element 23 fixed on the shell of turret 3 and of an external element 24 fixed on the plates 8.
- the shielded box 9 is extended by a branch 25 connected to both the extension 22 and the shell 10 of the turret.
- This shell 10 can possibly include shielding especially for the protection against bombs. In this way, the existing window 26 between the barrel 4 and the casing 9 is reduced to the minimum.
- the front element 23 is shielded and protects in combination with plates 8 on the left side from the turret.
- the length of the plates 8 and the dimensions of the housing 9 are adjusted so that the free space 27 between element 23 and the shell allows access to the pilot with hatch 2 located in the extension of this space.
- FIG. 3 an enlarged view of the device according to the invention.
- the plates 8 are fixed to the level of the opening 5 and the free space 27 delimited by these plates and the box 9 is one dimension substantially equal to that of the pilot's access door in the vehicle chassis (not shown). Resistance of the protective device is equivalent to that of the box 9 directly attached to the shell of the turret 3.
- the plates 8 are placed closest possible from barrel 4 leaving a slot 26, or space free, almost zero.
- the turret On the right side of the turret, (fig. 2) you can complete the shielding by providing a parallel plate 30 to barrel 4 and substantially the same length as the plates 8, on which one comes to fix a box 31 in front, then a box 32 completing the profile of the front part right 7.
- the turret has the same profile of each side and the protection is the same on both sides of the barrel, while conferring a certain homogeneity between both sides of the turret.
- the different boxes can be mounted from removable way to allow both disassembly of the canon 4 and the scalability of ballistic protection.
- the shape can be easily adapted to the presence or not a small or medium-caliber secondary armament which can be arranged coaxially with the barrel 4.
- the box 9 has an arc shape which can be polyhedral as shown in the figures or rounded depending on the shielding technologies used.
- the advanced position of plates 8 and 30 improves significantly the protection in the frontal arch by reducing the possibilities of projectile impacts at the level of the opening 5.
- the geometry of the box 9 is defined in its lower part so that the driving of the pilot with head out is possible.
- FIG. 3A shows a variant according to which the hatch 27 is released to allow passage of the pilot by operating a door 40 hinged relative to the box 9 by any known means.
- the door 40 is folded down on the hatch 27 to obstruct it and is blocked by any known means in the closed position.
