Definitions

  • the invention relates to a refuse holder (refuse container) which is suitable to be placed in a pit.
  • US-A-1462578 discloses a refuse holder according to the preamble of claim 1, which is intended to be used as a household refuse holder. As a matter of course it can be placed in any pit having suitable dimensions.
  • the cover of the refuse holder disclosed by said document has a circumferential vertical flange which, after closing the bin by the cover, lies on and opposite the outside of a circumferential bead at the upper edge of the bin.
  • the upper ends of the two arms on either side of the bin are connected by a bail, by which the arms can be lifted with respect to the bin, to finally lift the bin also, without lifting the cover from the bin.
  • the cover To empty the bin the cover must be lifted in addition, after or together with the lifting of the bail and arms.
  • Such prior art refuse holder is difficult to use for putting refuse in and emptying it.
  • the object of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of the prior art refuse holder.
  • the invention provides a refuse holder according to claim 1.
  • the refuse holder is easy and inexpensive to produce, and is also easy to use, in particular to empty it into a loading space of a refuse lorry.
  • the refuse holder (refuse container) according to the invention is placed in a pit 2.
  • the pit 2 is made, for example, of concrete, and its top edge is situated in particular at street level.
  • the refuse holder 1 comprises a bin 3 and a cover 4.
  • the bin 3 has a curved base 6, which is supported on the bottom 8 of the pit 2 by means of legs 7.
  • the bin 3 is delimited by a tube (or rod) 11.
  • the wall of the bin 3 does not adjoin the tube 11.
  • the wall has a flat plate piece 12 which extends obliquely upwards and inwards, preferably to above the underside of the tube 11. That section of the tube 11 which is opposite the plate 12 forms a hook-on member 14 which is suitable to be engaged by a hook, as will be explained below.
  • the cover 4 has a central filling opening 16, which is delimited by a flange 17 which projects above a main surface of the cover 4 and a flange 18 which projects below a main surface of the cover 4.
  • the top flange 17 is suitable to be received in a cavity at a bottom end of a cylindrical pillar which is to be placed on the cover 4 and via which refuse can be tipped into the bin 3.
  • the bin 3 and the cover 4 are coupled by means of two arms 20 on either side of the bin 3.
  • Each arm 20 has an elongate slot 21 in its bottom section, which slot extends substantially vertically after the refuse holder 1 has been placed in the pit 2.
  • the bin 3 has a pin 23 which projects through the slot 21 and beyond the slot 21 has a stop in order to prevent the arm 20 and the pin 23 from becoming detached from one another.
  • the pins 23 for the two arms 20 have axes which lie in line with one another.
  • each arm 20 is attached to the bottom side of the cover 4 by means of a coupling piece 25.
  • the coupling piece 25 is attached to the cover 4 by means of bolts 26 and nuts 27, heads 28 of the bolts 26 being countersunk in recesses 29 in the cover 4.
  • the top end of the arm 20 has an opening 31, through which a bearing piece 32 is inserted, which bearing piece, on the side of the arm 20 which is opposite to the coupling piece 25, has a stop section of larger diameter than the diameter of the opening 31.
  • the arm 20, the coupling piece 25 and the bearing piece 32 are held together in a rotatable manner by means of a recessed-head screw 33.
  • each arm 20 and the cover 4 allows the bin 3 to stand not perfectly vertically in the pit 2 and/or allows the top edge 36 of the pit 2 to be not parallel to the bottom 8 of the pit 2, and/or allows the bin 3 to stand not exactly centrally in the pit 2, while the cover 4 can then still be supported centrally and around the top edge 36 of the pit 2.
  • the result is a suitable stench seal without the cover 4 having to be placed on the bin 3 itself.
  • Fig. 4 diagrammatically shows part of a lorry 40 with a loading body 41 which has an opening 42 at the rear and at the top.
  • a hook 43 with a downwardly open jaw is arranged close to a rear delimiting edge of the opening 42.
  • Two guide pieces 44 are arranged at a horizontal distance apart at a level beneath the hook 43.
  • a hook 43 of this kind and guide pieces 44 of this kind may be arranged at a number of locations on the loading body 41, for example also on the side of the vehicle 40.
  • the lorry 40 is provided with a lifting device which, in the example shown, comprises a telescopic arm 46 which, at its end, bears a grab part 48 which can rotate about a horizontal shaft 47.
  • the grab part 48 fits with some play into the filling opening 16 of the cover 4 of the refuse holder according to the invention.
  • the grab part 48 has pins 49 which can be moved radially outwards.
  • the lifting device with the telescopic arm 46 and the pins 49 can be controlled hydraulically by an operator.
  • the grab part 48 When the refuse holder 1 is to be emptied, the grab part 48 is lowered into the filling opening 16 of the cover 4 until the level of the pins 49 is situated below the flange 18 of the opening 16. The pins 49 are then driven radially outwards, so that they protrude past the flange 18. The grab part 48 is then lifted, with the result that the flange 18 of the cover 4 will be supported on the extended pins 49, so that the cover 4 is also moved upwards, as indicated in Fig. 5 by the arrow 51.
  • the lifting device is operated in such a manner that the bin 3 is manoeuvred between the guide pieces 44 and is then moved further upwards until the hook 43 engages over the hook-on part 14 of the bin 3, as shown in Fig. 6.
  • the bin 3 will rotate about the horizontal pins 23, with the combination of the hook 43 of the vehicle 40 and the hook-on part 14 of the bin 3 acting as a pivot.
  • the length of the slots 21 is suitable for allowing rotation, in the suspended position of the bin 3, through at least 90° below the cover 4.
  • the plate piece 12 not only provides a recess between the tube 11 on the topside of the bin 3 and the wall of the bin 3 in order to define the hook-on part or hook-on member 14, but also ensures that liquid present in the bin 3 can flow over the plate piece 12 and into the loading body 41 without the liquid spilling out of the loading body 41.
  • the flat plate piece 12 at the hook-on part 14 of the bin 3 may optionally be replaced by a curved plate piece which, during emptying of the bin, forms a spout for liquid flowing out of the bin 3 and may have a greater length, when seen parallel to the plate piece 12, than the plate piece 12, in order to allow liquid flowing out of the bin 3 while the bin 3 is being emptied to flow sufficiently far into the loading body 41 and in order to counteract spillage even better.
  • the cover 4 could be provided with one or more hoisting eyelets which can be coupled to a hook provided on the lifting device.
  • the grab part 48 explained above has the advantage that it is only necessary, in order to couple together the lifting device and the cover 4, to actuate hydraulic means, and the cover 4 does not need any specific hoisting members.
  • arms 20 such as for example rods with thickened or curved ends which project through eyelets which are attached to the bin 3 and/or to the cover 4.
