Description
- The present invention relates to packaging articles into boxes.
- Automatic machines, commonly known as articles packaging machines, have heretofore been provided, for packaging various articles into relative boxes.
- In particular, such packaging machines automatically introduce one or more articles, e.g. pharmaceutical products, pharmaceutical blister pack, or other similar products, into a relative box and add a corresponding informative sheet thereto.
- Such packaging machines usually include a conveying line for the boxes to be filled, another conveying line connected to the box for supplying the articles to be placed into the boxes, and a line for feeding informative sheets to be inserted into the boxes along with the articles.
- These conveying lines are moved either in intermittent or continuous way.
- A transfer device is situated along the boxes conveying line for introducing articles and informative sheets into the boxes.
- A drawback of the packaging machines used so far derives from the poor versatility of the means for closing the boxes, which results in complicated adjustment operations when different boxes are used.
- Publication EP-A-0 576 404 discloses a mechanism for folding a closing flap of a carton according to the preamble of appended claim 1, which mechanism includes an adjusting device (18) designed for changing the position of means for closing the cartons (3). The displacement of the closing means is made along a vertical direction in accordance with the height of the cartons (3), and requires a single adjustment action. The closing means comprise a folding member (11) that folds a tab (10) of the flap (2) of each carton, a plate (17) that acts as a guide for inserting the tab (10) into a corresponding opening of the carton, and a pusher member (28) that pushes the tab (10) into the opening.
- This invention was evolved with the general object of proposing a machine for packaging articles into relative boxes, which is versatile, with particular reference to the operative means used to close the boxes, and easily adaptable for use with different types and sizes of boxes.
- A further object of the present invention is to propose a packaging machine, which is reliable and whose structure is very simple.
- The above mentioned objects are obtained in accordance with the contents of the appended claims.
- The characteristic features of the invention will be more fully apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
- Figure 1 is a schematic lateral view of a packaging machine obtained according to the present invention;
- Figures 2a, 2b and 2c are section views of pliers for withdrawing informative sheets to be joined to the articles, the pliers having been shown in different working steps;
- Figure 3 is a corresponding plan view of the pliers;
- Figures 4a and 4b are schematic top views of means for closing inner tabs of the boxes, also shown in different working steps;
- Figure 5 is perspective view of a boxes closing group;

shaft 62 that enters thebody 60. - The opposite faces of the
drum 61 feature a firstradial cam 63 and a secondradial cam 64, respectively. - Two rollers, namely a first and a
second roller levers radial cams - The
first lever 67 and thesecond lever 68 are pivoted to thebody 60 on apivot 69, so that they oscillate in vertical planes crosswise to the conveying line 1 (Figures 6a and 6b). - A
third folding member 72, including substantially a plate, which extends along the conveying line 1, is cantilevered to thefirst lever 67. - A
crosspiece 73, situated along the conveying line 1, is cantilevered to thesecond lever 68. - A pair of

bar 86 moves between a disengaged position, in which it is displaced to protrude sidewise from thebody 60, and an active position, in which it acts as a stop for theflap 10c being folded. - Operation of the machine requires the
boxes 10 being moved stepwise between thebelts - The articles and informative sheets to be introduced into the boxes are fed in time relation with the movement of the
boxes 10 along the conveying line. - The
informative sheets 3 withdrawn from themagazine 30 are transferred to therelative pliers 34 of thefeeding line 32. - This happens while the

trapezoidal bar 86 is moved to the active position, so as to act as an abutment for closing theflap 10c (Figure 8a). - Then, the
first folding member 7 is operated, so that thebar 70 set parallel to the conveying line 1 pushes theflap 10c of thebox 10 and brings it against the trapezoidal bar 86 (Figure 8b). - The rotation of the
drum 61, in time relation therewith, determines, due to the firstradial cam 63 and the secondradial cam 64, a pre-established oscillation of thefirst lever 67 and thesecond lever 68, which carry, respectively, thethird folding member 72 and thecrosspiece 73 with theteeth 74 protruding therefrom as push means. - Moving the
third folding member 72 folds awing 10d of theflap 10c against the trapezoidal bar 86 (Figure 8c). - Then, the
trapezoidal bar 86 is moved to the disengaged position. - Subsequently, the pushing
teeth 74 are operated to act on theflap 10c in order to complete the closure of the box (Figure 8d). - The described machine fulfils the object of packaging articles into relative boxes using a simple and small structure.
- In fact, the machine performs all the operations which are usually performed in different working stations, in a very limited space, which results in considerable reduction of longitudinal dimension.
- Moreover, the proposed packaging machine is very versatile, especially during the boxes closing step, therefore, it can work with boxes of different shapes.
- In particular, the flap closing group 6 can be situated in such a way, as to close the
flap 10c downwards, as shown previously, or upwards, according to the position of theflap 10c.
