Definitions

  • the arrangement concerns printers for receipts in applications, in which a journal is also kept.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a solution the previous solutions with two printing units replaced so that the previous applications unchanged can continue to be used.
  • the invention uses only one printing unit and one non-volatile memory in the printer that holds the data for the journal and only on request on the Prints out.
  • Other configurations and functional Further developments are the following description remove.
  • a printer 10 is shown schematically in FIG a printing unit 11 comprises, which on a record carrier 12 is able to print.
  • the printing unit is connected to control electronics 13, which the data at a first interface 14 and for the printing unit 11 prepared appropriately.
  • a printing unit for example mosaic printers with needle or inkjet print heads, those with thermal lines or with electrophotographic imaging can be used.
  • Corresponding the control electronics are responsible for the printing process shape.
  • such a printer also has a control panel 20 with a display 21 and an enter key 22.
  • One of the known interfaces can be used Interfaces like a Centronics printer interface, an extension derived from it (ECP or EPP) or a serial interface according to RS232 with asynchronous or synchronous protocol, e.g. HDLC.
  • the normal mode the data the first interface 14 is printed out in the manner of a printer, positioning by means of printer control characters, Formatting and a graphic printout in known Type according to HP-PCL, Postscript or other effects can be.
  • the printer comprises a second one Interface 16, which also with the control electronics 13 is connected.
  • the data on this interface are not printed out immediately in normal operating mode, but stored in a journal memory 17.
  • Any non-volatile memory is suitable as journal storage, according to the manufacturer's instructions must be used that a power failure already stored data is not changed or deleted.
  • a flash EPROM of the type designation Am 29f010 type A. from the company AMD or a similar component. This has the advantage that it is in the control electronics without much effort as a memory in the address space of today arranged in a control electronics usual microprocessor can be.
  • hard disk drives are just as possible as one battery-buffered CMOS RAM.
  • the memory is preferably arranged pluggable so that in the event of irreparable Failure of the printing unit of the memory removed and in a second printer with a journal device according to this invention are used and reused can.
  • the data is preferably stored in the journal memory 17 coded, especially according to ISO 8859/1 or ASCII and line by line stored.
  • non-coded information i.e. as a graphic pattern. This means that apart from the line break, everyone else Control characters such as bold or graphic print are ignored become.
  • journal mode In a second, the journal mode, are in the journal memory 17 data located on the printing unit 11 output. This is symbolized in Fig. 1 by the switch 15.
  • the first interface is 14 not usable, for example by a signal "End of paper” is displayed or by suppressing a Acknowledgment signal. It becomes useful during this time also the second interface 16 deactivated for programming to keep the control electronics simple.
  • the transition to journal mode can be done on the one hand a control panel 20 with a display 21 and an or several buttons 22 can be reached.
  • the control panel 20 is connected to the control electronics 13 via a connection 23, so that they monitor the control panel 20 and the Can switch to journal mode. alternative can be switched by one of the two Interfaces 14, 16 are given control characters.
  • journal memory can to be deleted.
  • buttons 22 can do this by a separate command of the operator. Alternatively, it can be deleted automatically at the end of the successful printout.
  • a predetermined number e.g. twenty, lines of the journal, marked as such remain. This is particularly useful with a another development of the invention, in which a further Only print the last twenty (or another number) lines of the journal without that this is deleted. This is useful for immediate expressed reactions of a customer whose business operations so far on the immediately printed paper were understandable. Each subsequent call prints the next number of previous, not yet printed Lines until this function is reset.
  • journal storage signaling e.g. 95% of the journal storage signaling is an anyway for a physical Printer previously used paper end signal used, its characteristics are determined by the interface used becomes.
  • a single interface 31 can be used in multiplex mode.
  • the demultiplexer is integrated in the control electronics 13.
  • Both usual microprocessor-controlled control units 13 can also be physically provided with two interfaces be, with an interface by configuration setting either as a single or as a multiplex interface is used.
  • the synchronous HDLC protocol is particularly suitable. But also an asynchronous protocol with the control characters of the ASCII are possible with the codes SI / SO and DC1 up to DC4 effect comparable function.
  • VT100 by the company Digital equipment provided one connected to the terminal Enable or disable printer. This can then be used to activate the code the printer stores the data in the journal memory, until a code for deactivation appears, whereupon the Data can be printed out normally.
