    Claims (12)

    1. Process for producing packs (10), in particular cigarette packs, in the case of which side tabs (18, 19) designed as folding tabs are provided with spots of glue (28), it being the case that, for gluing purposes, the packs (10) are moved past a stationary glue unit (30) with glue nozzles (31) and the glue nozzles (31) discharge portions of glue (29), during the movement of the packs (10), and transfer them to the inner side tabs (18), and it being the case that the portions of glue (29) are applied to an inner side folding tab (18) directed towards the glue nozzles (31), characterized by the following features:
      a) the portions of glue, on account of the corresponding position of the glue unit (30) and/or of the glue nozzles (31), are fed in the downward direction to the inner side tabs (18),
      b) the side tabs (18), on account of the corresponding position of the packs (10) during transportation in the region of the glue nozzles (31), are directed in an obliquely directed plane to the movement direction of the portions of glue (29),
      c) a second side tab (19), which is remote from the glue unit (30) and/or from the glue nozzles (31), on account of the position of the pack (10), is directed such that unwanted portions (32) or particles of glue discharged randomly from the glue nozzles (31) following the portions of glue (29) are intercepted.
    2. Process according to Claim 1, characterized in that the second, outer folding tab, remote from the glue nozzles (31), or side tab (19) assumes a funnel-like, obliquely directed relative position, as a result of preforming and/or prefolding, at an acute angle to a side surface of the pack contents - cigarette block.
    3. Process according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that unwanted portions (32) or particles of glue discharged randomly from the glue nozzles (31) are extracted by suction.
    4. Apparatus for producing packs (10), in particular cigarette packs, which can be transported by an endless conveyor, in particular a folding turret (20), it being the case that side tabs (18, 19) designed as folding tabs are provided, during transportation, with spots of glue (28), which can be transferred onto the packs (10) from a stationary glue unit (30) with glue nozzles (31) during transportation of the packs, and it being the case that the portions of glue (29) can be fed to the first side tab (18), which is directed towards the glue nozzles(31), in order to form spots of glue (28), characterized by the following features:
      a) the glue unit (30) and/or the glue nozzles (31) thereof are arranged in an upright position such that portions of glue (29) are discharged from the glue nozzles (31) in the vertical direction,
      b) the packs (10) can be transported by way of the endless conveyors or folding turrets (20) such that the packs in the region of the glue unit (30) and/or of the glue nozzles (31) are directed in a plane at an acute angle to the glue nozzles (31) and/or the downwardly directed movement of the portions of glue (29),
      c) a second side tab (19), which is remote from the side tabs (18) directed towards the glue nozzles, on account of the position of the packs (10), is directed such that unwanted portions (32) or particles of glue following the discharge of the portions of glue (29) can be received by the facing side of the second side tab (19).
    5. Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterized in that blanks of the pack (10), in particular a paper blank (13), are arranged on a mount of the folding turret (20), preferably on a folding mandrel (21), such that inner side tabs (18) and outer side tabs (19) project beyond the rearside of the folding mandrel (21) in the direction of rotation, it being the case that the inner side tab (18) is positioned on the outside in a radial direction and the outer side tab (19) is positioned on the inside in a radial direction, and that the portion of glue (29) can be fed onto the radially outer side tab (18) and, as a result of the oblique position of the glue nozzle (31), unwanted portions (32) can be fed to the radially inner side tab (19).
    6. Apparatus according to Claim 4 or 5, characterized in that the radially inner side tab (19) is formed so as to be in a funnel-like oblique position.
    7. Apparatus according to Claim 4 or one of the further claims, characterized in that the glue unit (30) with glue nozzles (31) is arranged in a downwardly conveying region of the folding turret (20), which is driven in rotation in an upright plane, and in that the glue nozzles (31) are arranged in a vertical position such that a nozzle axis or the conveying direction of the portions of glue (29) is directed at an angle of 30° to an imaginary radial plane.
    8. Apparatus according to Claim 4 or one of the further claims, characterized in that a screen (34) is arranged, as a panel-like covering, between the glue unit (30) or the glue nozzles (31), on the one hand, and the packs (10) or the movement path of the same, on the other hand, and has a through-passage opening (35) for each glue nozzle (31).
    9. Apparatus according to Claim 4 or one of the further claims, characterized in that arranged in the region of the gluing station (27) or in the region of the glue nozzles (31) is a suction unit (41) for the purpose of extracting particles of glue by suction, in particular on the inwardly directed side of the movement path of the packs (10) .
    10. Apparatus according to Claim 9, characterized in that the suction unit (41) has a suction chamber which is formed on the side opposite from the glue nozzles (31) and is open on the side directed towards the packs (10), the suction chamber (42) being connected to a suction-extraction stub (44).
    11. Apparatus according to Claim 10 or one of the further claims, characterized in that arranged in the suction chamber (42) is an insert piece (47) which can be removed or drawn out.
    12. Apparatus according to Claim 9 or one of the further claims, characterized in that supporting bodies (49, 50), which extend in the circumferential direction of the folding turret (20) and on which the packs (10) or the blanks or folding tabs can rest, are formed on both sides of the suction unit (41) or of the suction chamber (42).
