Definitions
- the invention relates to an electroacoustic transducer for underwater use of the genus defined in the preamble of claim 1.
- electro-acoustic transducer Such as an annular transducer called, electro-acoustic transducer is known for example from DE 19 528 881 C1. To realize an underwater acoustic underwater antenna with a small vertical opening angle several such ring transducers are arranged vertically above one another. An underwater antenna of this kind is used, for example, as a transmitting antenna integrated in towed bodies of sonar systems.
- FIG. 2 of the drawing shows the dependence of the transmission level L S of an annular transducer on the operating voltage U S applied to the converter for various values of the underwater pressure, the water pressure p increasing from the lower to the upper curve.
- the transmission level L S of a sound source that is the transmission transducer, is defined as the sound or sound pressure level at a distance of Im from the center of the sound source. The end of each curve in the diagram of Fig. 2 is determined by the transmission level at which cavitation begins.
- a well-known electro-acoustic transducer H. Hachiya et al: "An Omnidirectional transducer design Attached with high sound-speed Material for Use in Deep Seas” Pros of 9 th Symposium on Ultrasonic Electronics, March 1989, pages 57 to 59).
- a hollow cylindrical wandering element (cylindrical transducer shell element), on whose inner cylinder wall a covering made of a material with a high speed of sound, from a so-called syntactic foam (syntactic foam), is attached.
- the speed of sound of the foam is significantly greater than that of water, so that it is possible to control the phase of the incident sound wave due to the difference in the speed of sound between water and foam.
- the wave impedance or the acoustic impedance of the foam is designed so that this or this as closely as possible corresponds to the characteristic impedance of water, so that the transmission losses in the boundary area water / foam are minimized.
- the geometric arrangement and the shape of the syntactic foam are designed so that the electroacoustic transducer has a omnidirectional directivity in large water depth.
- the invention has for its object to improve an electroacoustic transducer of the type mentioned so that it can be emitted into the water, dependent on the water pressure maximum transmission level, that is the Transmission level, in which just does not yet use cavitation, is significantly increased.
- the inventive electro-acoustic transducer has the advantage that the maximum achievable transmission level is much greater than in the conventional transducers, in which usually the interior is flooded by the inventive arrangement and design of the pressure-resistant, cylindrical body in the center of the enclosed space of the annular body at a given water pressure .
- Investigations have shown that an increase of the transmission level by up to 3 dB is achieved without reaching the cavitation application point. This makes it possible to operate in shallow water areas with a larger transmission level and thus greater transmission power.
- Large transmission powers of the transmit transducers or of the transmit antennas constructed with them allow larger detection ranges and improved receive levels, so that the location results of sonar systems can be significantly improved.
- the maximum transmission power can be radiated in a significantly lower water depth without the use of cavitation.
- the application of the converter is considerably increased, and it is possible to use in the shallow water areas with the sonar plant different depth sound propagation channels.
- the cylindrical body is hollow and filled with air or another gas or with porous material or with bulk material.
- the hollow body can be made of steel or plastic or any other material.
- the cylindrical body may be made as a solid body of a solid or a porous material. In the latter case, the porous fabric body must have a closed-pore outer skin to prevent the ingress of water.
- the cylindrical body is formed as an elongated tube or elongated rod on which the annular body of the individual transducers are held at an axial distance from each other.
- the holder takes place in the structure of a structure-borne sound, for which in the holder between pipe or rod and the ring bodies decoupling elements, e.g. Rubber blocks, are arranged.
- the underwater transmission antenna 10 for a sonar system which is shown schematically in a perspective view in FIG. 1, is usually installed in a towed body, which is towed by a towing vehicle in the water.
- the hollow towed body is completely flooded with water.
- the outer skin of the towed body is made of a material (e.g., plastic) having an acoustic wave impedance equal to that of water.
- the wave resistance corresponds to the specific acoustic impedance of the material provided that the water can be assumed to be lossless, which is approximately the case.
- the underwater transmission antenna 10 has, in the example of Fig. 1, two electro-acoustic transducers 11 coaxially and vertically arranged one above the other at an axial distance from each other.
- the number of electroacoustic transducers 11 is not limited to two.
- Each of the two identical in construction, electro-acoustic transducer 11 has an annular body 12 which defines a cylindrical inner space 13.
- the annular body 12 is on its inside and outside with a protective jacket 14 made of acoustically transparent material, such as polyurethane or rubber.
- the detailed structure of the ring body 12 is shown and described for example in DE 19 528 881 C1.
- the ring body 12 consists of an aluminum tube, in which a plurality of axial slots is milled, are used in the pairwise oppositely polarized ceramic plates.
- the electroacoustic transducer 11 described here is characterized in that it is ensured by suitable measures that at least the center of the cylindrical inner space 13 has a characteristic impedance ⁇ ⁇ c, which is not equal to the characteristic impedance of water.
- This can be most easily realized with a pressure-resistant, cylindrical body 15, which is arranged coaxially with the ring body 12.
- the cylindrical body 15 has an outer diameter which is smaller than the inner diameter of the annular body 12 and protrudes in the axial direction over the two end faces of the annular body 12.
- the cylindrical body 15 may be formed as a hermetically sealed hollow body which is filled with a medium such as gas or liquid or with a solid or bulk material.
- a hollow body filled with air is used.
- the hollow body is made of metal or plastic.
- a solid solid or a porous material body, such as foam body can be used. In the latter case, the fabric body with a to provide closed-pore outer skin, so that the ingress of water and thus a change of the characteristic impedance of the cylindrical body 15 is prevented.
- the cylindrical body 15 of the individual transducers 11 in the case of training as a hollow cylinder to an elongated tube 16 or in the case of training as a solid solid or porous material body combined into a bar.
- the annular body 12 are held at an axial distance from each other on the tube 16 and on the rod.
- the holder has a plurality of mutually offset by equal circumferential angle to each other arranged holders 17 which are fixed on the one hand to the pipe 16 - or on the rod - and on the other hand on one of the end face of the ring body 12.
- a single holder 17 on the lower converter 11 is shown.
- a rubber block 18 is clamped.
- a foam element may also be used.
- the hermetically sealed tube 16 made of metal or plastic has been filled with air, a gas or a liquid or a bulk material, e.g. a granulate, or by filling with a solid a characteristic impedance ⁇ ⁇ c, which is not equal to the characteristic impedance of water.
- Fig. 3 In the diagram of Fig. 3 is the curve B of the transmission level L S of one of the two electroacoustic transducer 11 of Underwater transmission antenna 10 shown in Fig. 1 as a function of the voltage applied to the converter 11 operating voltage U S.
- the curve a shows the same function for the electro-acoustic transducer 11, in which the tube 16 or the cylindrical body 15 associated with the transducer 11 is removed and the cylindrical interior 13 is completely flooded. Both curves apply to the same water depth, ie the same water pressure. It can clearly be seen that with the electroacoustic transducer 11 according to the invention (curve b), the maximum achievable transmission level is higher by almost 3 dB.

Description
- Fig. 1
- Fig. 2
