Abstract

The locking fitting (1) has a casing (3) with a slide (4) inside the casing for longitudinal movement. The slide has a projection (11) on its face (10) adjacent to the external wall of the casing. Lock fitting (1) for the sliding opening panel (2) of a door, window or the like, comprising, inside a casing (3), a slider (4) which moves in longitudinal direction (5) of the casing (3) and bears a bolt-carrier (6), the slider (4) having, on its face (10) adjacent to the outer wall (9) of the casing (3), a projecting element (11) disposed so that, in the locked position of the slider (4), it projects through a longitudinal slot (8) provided on the outer wall (9) of the casing (3) and butts against the edge (12) of the outer wall (9) defining the longitudinal end of the slot (8) on the side opposite the direction of locking (13), elastic return means (14, 61) being disposed so as to constantly urge the projecting element (11) towards the outer wall (9) of the casing (3) whilst allowing a displacement of the projecting element (11) in the direction (15) perpendicular to said outer wall (9), characterized in that the casing (3) is formed by a profile (24) having two longitudinal side walls (25, 26) which are substantially parallel in relation to one another and project from the same side relative to the outer wall (9), said casing (3) being designed to be inserted into an opening (16) made in the inner wall (17) of the sliding opening panel (2), and the outer wall (9) of the casing (3) completely covering the opening (16), each longitudinal side wall (25, 26) having on its respective longitudinal edge (27, 28) opposite the outer wall (9) a respective longitudinal bend (29, 30) extending transversely towards the other side wall (26, 25) over at least one portion of the transverse dimension of the casing (3), in that the projecting element (11) is provided on the face (10) of the slider (4) adjacent to the outer wall (9) of the casing, has a predetermined height (C) relative to said adjacent face (10) and is designed to slide along the inner face (9a) of the outer wall (9), in that the slider (4) is movable inside the casing (3) in the direction (15) perpendicular to the outer wall (9) over a distance which is at least equal to said predetermined height (C), and includes means forming an operating component (7) which is accessible through the longitudinal slot (8) and is designed to exert on the slider (4) a longitudinal force to displace the slider 4 in one direction or the other in the longitudinal direction (5) of the casing (3), and a force in the direction (15) perpendicular to the outer wall (9) to release the projecting element (11) from its position engaged with the edge (12) and to release the slider (4) from its locked position, the elastic return means (14, 61) being disposed between the slider (4) and the casing (3).
  2. Lock fitting according to Claim 1, characterized in that the slider (4) has at least one projection (14, 61) designed to bear elastically on at least one of the bends (29, 30) of the casing (3), or on conformations integral with said bends (29, 30).
  3. Lock fitting according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the slider (4) has means (34, 62) designed to cooperate with complementary means (36; 63, 64) of the casing (3) to ensure that the unlocked position and the locked position of the slider (4) are precise and stable positions by elastically opposing with a predetermined force any displacement in longitudinal direction (5), in one direction or the other, of the slider (4) from one or the other of said stable positions, if necessary by assisting the displacement of the slider (4) into the opposite stable position if it has moved beyond an unstable middle position.

Lock fitting according to Claim 3, characterized in that the slider (4) has at least one finger (34) projecting longitudinally relative to one end (35) of the slider (4), and in that a corresponding longitudinal wall (25, 26) of the casing (3) has a swelling (36) projecting inwards relative to said wall (25, 26), said swelling (36) being disposed in such a way that a feeler (38), provided at the end of the finger (34) and projecting towards said wall (25, 26) relative to the finger (34), is located respectively on either side of said swelling (36) in the stable unlocked and locked positions of the slider (4) and exerts an elastic resistance on contact with this swelling (36) when the slider (4) moves from one to the other of said stable positions.
  5. Lock fitting according to Claim 4, characterized in that the swellings (36) are made by inward deformation of the longitudinal side walls (25, 26) of the casing (3).
  6. Lock fitting according to Claim 3, characterized in that the slider (4) has a projection (61) extending from the slider (4) so as to overhang in longitudinal direction (5) of the casing (3), and in that the projection (61) has conformations (62) which are located opposite complementary conformations (63, 64) of the bends (29, 30) of the casing and are designed to cooperate elastically with said complementary conformations (63, 64).
  7. Lock fitting according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that means forming limit stops (41) are provided on the inner face (25a, 26a) of at least one longitudinal side wall (25, 26) of the casing (3), after insertion of the slider (4) into the casing (3), for limiting the movement of the slider (4) in at least one direction inside the casing (3).
  8. Lock fitting according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the slider (4) carries close to the end (42) of the element forming the operating component (7) and opposite the projecting element (11) a bolt-carrier (6), and in that the length (1) of the slot (8) and the position of the bolt-carrier (6) are predetermined so that a screw (43) for immobilizing the projection (P) of the bolt (44) is accessible through the slot (8) in the unlocked position of the slider (4).
  9. Lock fitting according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it includes spring means (44), disposed between the casing (3) and the slider (4), which constantly urge the slider (4) in the direction (13) towards its locked position.
  10. Lock fitting according to any one of the preceding claims, the slider (4) being releasable from the outside of the opening panel (2) by means of a key (45) operating a component (47) for driving the slider (4), characterized in that the driving component (47) and the slider (4) have complementary means (53, 54) together with shapes disposed so as to convert a displacement in longitudinal direction (5) of the driving component (47) at the start of an unlocking operation into a displacement of the slider (4) in the direction (15) perpendicular to the outer wall (9) of the casing (3) towards the interior of said casing (3).
  11. Lock fitting according to Claim 10, characterized in that the slider (4) has a wedge (52), whose transverse face (53) facing the direction of locking (13) of the slider (4) is inclined relative to said perpendicular direction (15) and extends in the direction of locking (13) and towards the interior of the casing (3), and in that the driving component (47) has a complementary face (54) inclined substantially in the same direction so as to displace the slider (4) in the direction (15) towards the interior of the casing (3) at the start of an operation for unlocking the slider (4) by means of the key (45).
