Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an antenna intended for a transceiver of radio communication, having the appearance of a rod, provided with a light source located at outside the antenna, and comprising a light pipe with a part diffusing the light.
  • It also relates to a radio communication transceiver equipped with a antenna.
  • the invention applies inter alia to cellular telephones.
  • the antenna described by this document includes an incandescent bulb which diffuses light in a transparent sleeve that surrounds the metallic electrical conductor which constitutes the antenna itself.
  • An object of the invention is to improve both the efficiency of the antenna, its reliability, and its cost.
  • the antenna itself is constituted by an electrical part of the type helical formed by a metal spring, and it surrounds on at least part of its length of the light pipe.
  • the light source produces light in the form of flashes.
  • the light pipe and the light diffusing part are made in a single piece, the part diffusing the light being constituted by a treatment, which makes the diffusing surface for light, which is applied to part of the surface of the duct.
  • the light diffusing part is located near one end of the rod.
  • the light diffusing surface is surrounded an envelope of translucent material.
  • the light pipe is advantageously constituted by a bundle of fibers flexible optics.
  • a radio communication transceiver is advantageously equipped with a antenna according to the invention.
  • the transceiver being capable of receive a call, it is provided with means for activating the light source when such a call is detected,
  • the transceiver being provided with control keys, it is provided with means for activating the light source when any key is pressed by a user.
  • FIG. 1 represents a radio communication transceiver provided with a antenna.
  • FIG. 2 shows in perspective, at A an antenna according to the invention, assembled, and in B the same exploded view antenna.
  • FIG. 3 represents in section the antenna of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 shows part of FIG. 3 on a larger scale.
  • Figure 5 is a general diagram of a portable telephone.
  • the radio communication transceiver shown in Figure 1 which is here a mobile telephone, comprises a main body 4, with a keyboard of keys 3 and a screen 2 and, to receive (or transmit) radio waves from one (to one) transmitter 5, it is provided with an antenna having the external appearance of a rod, which further comprises a part 1 which can be made light.
  • This transceiver is provided with means which will be described later to activate the light part when an incoming call is detected, or when a 3 key is supported by a user.
  • Light can be produced in the form of flashes, which attract the attention of the user, for example in the case of an incoming call.
  • FIG. 1 An antenna for a transceiver such as that of Figure 1 is shown in figure 2.
  • the antenna shown in A comprises an envelope 6 made of a material translucent, and a mechanical support 7, which supports the envelope by any known means 6 and through which passes a light pipe 9, in which a diode light emitting 10 can send light.
  • a metal wire 8 in the form of a helical spring surrounds the light pipe, and constitutes the electrical part of the antenna.
  • the light pipe 9 is for example constituted by a plastic rod transparent, such as a polymer. It includes, near its end, that is to say near the end of the rod, inside the casing 6 of translucent material when the assembly is assembled, a part 9T diffusing the light, constituted by a treatment of part of the surface, suitable for diffusing light.
  • the treatment consists for example in making annular grooves, thanks to which light is diffused from the interior of the duct to the exterior. A part frosted can also fulfill this role.
  • the light pipe 9 and the part diffusing the 9T light are made here in one piece.
  • the diffusing part could also be made up of several distinct elements distributed along the length of the duct, to obtain special lighting effects.
  • the light pipe could also be constituted by a bundle of flexible optical fibers.
  • the translucent envelope 6, the metal spring 8 which constitutes the electrical part of the antenna and surrounds the light pipe 9, as well as the mechanical support 7, are shown assembled.
  • Part of this antenna is shown on an even larger scale in Figure 4, to show clearly the annular grooves in the duct 9, through which the light inside the duct is diffused outwards, between the turns of spring 8.
  • a portable telephone such as that shown in FIG. 5 includes a circuit for reception and transmission circuit, both coupled to an antenna duplexer 30.
  • the reception circuit comprises in cascade an adjustable RF filter 31, a mixer 32, a switchable intermediate frequency filter 33, a detector 34, a controller timeshare multiplex (“TDMA”) 35, a speech coder (“CODEC”) 36, and a loudspeaker 37.
  • the transmission circuit comprises in cascade a microphone 27, the speech coder (“CODEC”) 36, the timeshare access controller multiplex (“TDMA”) 35, a modulator 38, an oscillator 39, a mixer 40, and a power amplifier 41.
  • a microprocessor 42 is provided to control the phone features.
  • a memory 44 including a non-volatile part 45 and a volatile part 46 is associated with the microprocessor 42.
  • the non-volatile memory part 45 contains a program for processing telephone functionality.
  • the device includes power connections 48 and 49, connected to a battery interchangeable 51, to power the device.
  • the antenna comprises, as described more top, an electrical part in the form of a spring 8, which is connected to the antenna duplexer 30, and a light pipe 9 placed in front of a light source 10.
  • the source 10 is powered by a power module 20, which is activated by the microprocessor in one of the cases mentioned above.
  • the microprocessor can include a program to activate module 20 in successive brief periods, or alternatively, module 20 can include a multivibrator type circuit 21, for actuating the light source 10 in pieces.
