Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for electrical connection comprising an insulating box containing contact elements, parallel cells leading to the same side of the housing for insertion, from said side, into said contact tip cells which are attached to the ends of the conductors to be connected and include retaining means, in view the insertion of these tips in said contact elements and means cooperating with said means for retaining the end caps contact to retain, in the case, the plugged contact tips in the contact elements.
  • Such an electrical connection device may arise. both in the form of a connection module in which the contact elements are shunts intended to establish a connection between several contact tips, only in the form of a connector comprising two complementary parts having one of the contacts contacts and the other of the female contacts, in which case the elements of contact consist of female contacts on a part of connector and male contacts on the other connector part.
  • connection modules and such connectors As well as their contacts, it is possible to refer for example to documents FR-A-2 115 556 and FR-A-2 575 612.
  • Connection devices of this type are used, for example example, for establishing connections when wiring in fields such as aeronautics.
  • This wiring is generally done by preparing groups or bundles of conductors known as “harnesses" "prefabricated cables already fitted with their connection devices.
  • the present invention aims to provide an electrical connection device designed to ensure, by a particular structure of the device and by a particular mode for inserting the contact ends in the contact elements, a increased safety on the one hand when inserting contact tips in the connection device and on the other hand during the establishment of the contact between the tips thus inserted and the contact elements of the connection device, thereby providing contact security markedly improved.
  • the electrical connection device includes an insulating housing containing contact elements, parallel cells opening on the same side of the housing for the insertion, from said side, into said cells, of end caps contacts that are attached to the ends of the conductors to be connected and include retaining means, and for the insertion of these end pieces in said contact elements, and means cooperating with said retaining means for retaining, in the housing, the contact ends plugged into the contact elements.
  • the case is divided, transversely to the axes of the cells, in two parts of the housing nestable which, after nesting, are movable one with respect to the other parallel to the axes of the cells between a first position and a second position.
  • the housing includes means for maintain the two housing parts in each of said two positions.
  • a first part of the housing comprises, at the place of each cell, latching means which, in said first position of the housing parts, cooperate with said means of retaining contact tips when inserting them into the cells, so as to immobilize the contact ends with click effect in a well defined position.
  • the second part housing carries the contact elements and includes means for locking, so that in said first position said end caps are not inserted in the contact elements and locking means do not cooperate with the means snap, and that in said second position, the ends of contact are plugged into the contact elements and the means of locking cooperate with the latching means by locking the latter on the means for retaining the contact ends.
  • the operator proceeds first, the two parts of the case being in the first position, when inserting the conductive contact tips in the cells, until the contact tips click into place, this snap being clearly noticeable by the operator.
  • the operator brings the two parts of the device housing connection in the second position, which means that all snap-in end pieces are inserted in the contact elements and, simultaneously, the locking means locks the means latching on the retaining means of all the end caps contact, making it impossible to extract any tip from contact.
  • the retaining means on the end caps of contact may be constituted in a manner known per se by a external annular flange projecting from the body of the end pieces, and the latching means comprise stop means cooperating with the flank of the collar turned in the direction of insertion of the tip, to limit and define the insertion depth of the tips, and holding means cooperating with the opposite flank of the flange to maintain the tip in said position.
  • said holding means are designed to so as to allow, in said first position of the two parts of case, not only an insertion of the tips until it clicks, by simple push, but also extraction of the tips, so release, by simple pull, therefore without the use of tools.
  • the latching means can advantageously include, for each cell, at least two fingers distributed around of the axis of the cell, these fingers being elastic, preferably elastic in flexion, so as to move away elastically during the insertion of a contact tip, when passing the retaining means of the last.
  • the fingers of the means advantageously extend overhang substantially in the direction of insertion of the contact tip and the stop means preferably include a substantially flange perpendicular to the length of the fingers, at the free end of these last, while the holding means comprise, between the free end of each finger and its connection to the first part of the housing, a bead with two oblique sides.
  • the latching means can advantageously be formed in one piece with the first part of the housing.
  • the locking means of the latching means may preferably include, for each contact tip, a annular element having such an internal diameter and such a position on the second part of the case that said element can fit together on the latching means, in said second position, in thus preventing an unlocking.
  • the means for retaining the tips, the latching means and the locking means are shaped so that the locking means prevent both parties of case to go from the first position to the second position when the fingers of the latching means are separated by a retaining flange of an incompletely inserted tip, so no latched on, clearly indicating to the operator that a tip is not fully inserted.
  • the means for holding the two parts of housing in both positions includes means latching.
  • connection device can be used as a connection module comprising, for its fixing on a U-profile support rail, two outer shoulders opposite cooperating with inner edges of the wings of the U-profile of the support rail.
  • said shoulders are arranged on the first part of the housing, so that said shoulders do not can cooperate with the edges of the rail, for fixing the module, only if the two parts of the case occupy the second position and that, when the module is fixed on the rail, the latter condemns the two housing parts in said second position.
  • connection device in accordance with the invention as a connector comprising two parts of connector, one with male contacts, the other with female contacts, and including accessories such as fixed cable ties externally on at least one connector part
  • the subdivision outside of the housing of this connector part passes through the area of attachment of an accessory in such a way that it cannot be fixed only if the two housing parts occupy the second position and that when the accessory is attached it condemns the two parts of housing in said second position.
  • connection device as illustrated by drawings is a connection module of the type comprising, so known per se, an insulating housing containing at least one shunt for the interconnection of several conductors comprising, at their ends, contact tips intended to be plugged in from a same side of the module in the latter, for contact with said shunt.
  • the housing module insulator generally rectangular in shape, consists of two parts, namely a lower part 1 and a part upper 2, the lower part 1 can be fitted into the upper part 2.
  • the lower part of case 1 made of rigid material has a closed base 3 on which four walls protrude upwards side 4, 5, 6, 7 and four transverse partitions 8, defining set of five rectangular housings 9, open upwards, intended to receive five shunts 10 with two contacts each.
  • a insulating plate 11 comprising two rows of five holes for passage 12 is attached and fixed, for example by welding, to the above the lower part of case 3, after insertion of the shunts 10 in slots 9.
  • the upper part of the housing 2 comprises a body 13 in rigid material, bounded by two large opposite sides and two small opposite sides and crossed by twice five cells 14 cylindrical parallel, and an upper sealing part 15 of flexible material having twice five through holes 16 aligned with the alveoli 14.
