Abstract

The control comprises twin valves operated by forked tappet arms. The two valves (3) are fitted with similar valve springs (2) operated by the two ends (5) of the forked tappet arms (4) pivot mounted between two hydraulic adjusters (9). A single cam follower (7) operates the tappets. The adjusters are on a line (15) nearly at right angles to the lines (11) joining the single cam follower with the pressure points (13) of the tappets on the valves. The adjuster supports are spherical and are spaced sufficiently apart to provide even support in the case of one of the valve gears reaching resonance. This ensures that the adjuster settings remain correct.
