Abstract

The description relates to a carbon brush for an electric motor. Such carbon brushes must meet two requirements. Firstly, they must be as abrasion-resistant as possible and secondly as little noise as possible must be generated at the brush-collector interface with the motor running. To this end it is proposed that the face (3) of the carbon bursh (1) be sloped and have transverse grooves (10, 11, 12) in the lower region.

Description

The invention relates to a carbon brush for an electrical machine, which has an end face that can be brought into contact with a collector.
Derartige Bürsten sind schon vielfach beschrieben worden. Ein Beispiel kann der DE 31 48 996 entnommen werden.Such brushes have been described many times. An example can be found in DE 31 48 996.
The problem that must be observed when designing such brushes is that the brush and collector unit causes noise during operation. The contact surface of the brush slides along the surface of the collector, which in particular induces vibrations due to the lamella-like structure of the surface of the collector, which vibrations are ultimately emitted as airborne sound and are perceived as noise. There have been many proposals to reduce this noise pollution. With every new proposal it is important to note that the contact resistance between the brush and the collector must not be too small. In addition, the brush should have sufficient abrasion resistance and should not be made too soft.
For example, it has already been proposed to incline the contact surface with respect to the axis of the collector or with respect to the outer surface of the collector. The contact surface is bevelled accordingly. In this case, however, there is a sharp-edged transition between the contact surface and the lower side edge of the brush, so that at least in the initial phase of the operation of the motor, the brush only rests with one edge on the collector.
These brushes generally do not remove the hard surface that arises when the graphite mixture is pressed. In this case, the noise reduction that can be achieved is only slight. If the surface skin of the brush is removed after pressing, there is a risk of the edge breaking off.
It is also known to provide the contact surface of the brush with longitudinal grooves over the entire surface, which extend in the transverse direction, that is to say in the circumferential direction of the collector. However, this measure only leads to a slight decrease in the noise level.
It is therefore proposed according to the invention to incline the contact surface with respect to the axial direction of the collector and to provide it only in the lower region with one or more transverse grooves which are milled into the surface, at the same time the hard surface skin is removed .
It has been found that two or three grooves are sufficient, the lowest groove being open at the bottom. The contact surface itself is curved according to the cylindrical surface of the collector. The inclination of the contact surface in relation to the lateral surface of the collector is in the order of 6 to 10 degrees, preferably approximately 8 degrees. The inclination to be set depends, among other things. also depends on which electrical currents are to be transmitted through the brush.
The inclination can be selected the smaller the higher the electrical currents to be transmitted.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to 4 figures.
Die Figuren la,1b,1c zeigen eine Kohlebürste in verschiedenen Ansichten,Figures la, 1b, 1c show a carbon brush in different views,
die Figur 2 einen Ausschnitt aus der Figur la.2 shows a section of the figure la.
The carbon brush 1 shown consists of an elongated cuboid, which is approximately square in cross section (FIG. 1b) and approximately rectangular in longitudinal section (FIG. 1 a).
Such a carbon brush is provided with a strand 2, via which the current is supplied. The brushes are guided in quivers which are arranged on a brush support plate.
An end face of the brush, the contact face 3, reaches the outer face of a collector 4 after the assembly of a motor.
Die Kontaktfläche 3 der Bürste 1 gelangt zur Anlage an die Mantelfläche/Kontaktfläche des Kollektors 4.In the exemplary embodiment, a cylindrical collector is provided, the contact surface of the collector being arranged on its outer surface. The contact surface 3 of the brush 1 comes into contact with the outer surface / contact surface of the collector 4.
Die Krümmung entspricht dabei im we¬ sentlichen dem Radius des Kollektors 4.The contact surface 3 of the brush 1 is now designed as follows: in the transverse direction, that is to say in the circumferential direction of the collector, the contact surface 3 is curved, as can be seen in FIG. 1c. The curvature essentially corresponds to the radius of the collector 4.
In the axial direction, the contact surface 3 is inclined to the outer surface of the collector 4. A wedge-shaped gap 5 is thus formed between the lateral surface of the collector 4 and the contact surface 3 of the brush 1. The lower edge 6, that is the edge which lies against the outer surface of the collector 4, is provided with one or more grooves 10, 11, 12 which extend in the transverse direction over the entire width of the contact surface 3. The brush is preferably positioned in the holder so that the lower edge 6 is close to the brush support plate. However, it is also possible to position the brush in such a way that the lower edge is at a distance from the brush support plate.
As can be seen from FIG. 2, the grooves 10, 11, 12 are acute-angled, that is to say they have a triangular profile in cross section. The bottom groove 10 is open at the bottom, that is to say there is only a bevel opposite the underside 13 of the brush 1.
Die Bürsten werden wie folgt hergestellt. The brushes are made as follows.
Blanks are pressed and sintered from a mixture that essentially contains graphite. There is a hard layer on the surface of the brushes, which must be sanded or milled off at least in the area of the end face 3. The layer on the long sides of the brush can also be removed in this way.
The end face 3 is then beveled, as described above, the corresponding curvature in the circumferential direction being achieved by the choice of the tool. Then one or more grooves are milled in the transverse direction on the lower edge.
With such a carbon brush, the motor can be operated with very little noise. The protruding edges 14, 15 are often ground off during test runs of the engine. That is to say the brush contains, starting from the lower edge, a shape which is adapted to the outer surfaces of the collector.
It has been found that the motor works very quietly in this way. In addition, it should be stated that the contact surface 3 should enclose an angle of approximately 6 to 10 degrees to the lateral surface of the collector.
