Definitions
- the invention relates to a press device with an extended press zone, which has a press roll, at least one press felt, a press belt and a press shoe, a lubricant film being located between the press shoe and the press belt.
- a paper web is subjected to an ongoing drying process during papermaking.
- the paper web also passes through one or more drying stages in which it is exposed to an elevated temperature and a considerable pressure between heated rollers.
- the water still contained in the paper web is largely evaporated.
- the drying stage is preceded by at least one pressing device with an extended pressing zone (long-gap presses or shoe presses).
- a pressing device has a larger pressure zone in the machine direction than two conventional, counter-rotating rollers.
- the press device consists of a press roll and a corresponding press shoe. The paper web runs between the press roll and press shoe. This means that every area of the paper web is exposed to increased pressure over a longer period of time and is therefore drained more.
- At least one liquid-impermeable press belt runs between the press shoe and the press roll.
- the paper web is between one or two press felts.
- the press felts absorb the escaping water.
- press belts are usually used, which consist of a base fabric (carcass) with a uniform layer and a resin coating with a uniform thickness and are usually provided with a fiber reinforcement (because of the high contact pressure).
- base fabric carcass
- resin coating makes the press belt relatively stiff. This is disadvantageous because it is subjected to very high pressures on the press shoe, considerable flexing work on the deflecting rollers and usually also considerable tensile stress.
- US Pat. No. 4,482,430 describes a press belt which is also impermeable to liquids and is lubricated with water.
- the side of the press shoe applied coating consists of a compressible material and has grooves for absorbing the water. During the pressing process, the coating is pressed together and the press belt floats on a water film.
- the disadvantage of this is the low resilience of the compressible material under flexing and tensile stress.
- the object of the present invention is therefore to provide a pressing device with an extended pressing zone, in which the pressing belt is satisfactorily flexible, tensile and low-wear.
- the press belt is permeable to liquid and the lubricant film consists of water or a mono- or polyhydric alcohol with up to 12 carbon atoms or a mixture of two or more of these substances.
- a porous press belt made of a base fabric and a porous coating is suitable, for example. All spinnable, temperature and water resistant plastics are suitable for the base fabric, which provide a fiber with high tensile strength. Stabilized polyesters, numerous polyamides, high modulus polyolefins, but also polyaramides are particularly suitable. Plastics with aromatic or heterocyclic monomers are also suitable, as are polyfluorinated hydrocarbons.
- a porous, generally slotted or perforated film is suitable as a coating. It can be connected to the base fabric by heat activation or glued to the base fabric. A needled fleece can also be used as a porous coating Serve filaments. The same materials as for the base fabric are suitable, as well as mineral fibers, glass fibers or carbon fibers.
- the press belt can just as well be a simple spiral belt or a simple fabric without a coating.
- a rib fabric is particularly useful because the press belt only rests on the shoe with a reduced surface, which also leads to reduced friction.
- the press shoe itself can be made of metal, plastic or ceramic. Plastic and ceramics are particularly suitable because they have reduced friction.
- the lubricant is sprayed onto the press belt from below using a spray device at the inlet of the paper web.
- the spraying device at the inlet can also be oriented in such a way that it is not the press belt that is sprayed in, but the press shoe.
- water e.g. mono- or polyhydric butyl alcohols, amyl alcohols or hexyl alcohols as well as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or glycerin can be used.
- a mixture of water and glycerin is particularly suitable.
- Figure 1 shows a press device 1 with an extended press zone 2, in which a paper web 7 runs between a press belt 3 (eg press felt) and a paper machine felt 3 'in the direction of arrow A.
- the press device 1 consists essentially of a press roll 4 and a press shoe 5, via which, in the direction of arrow B, a contact pressure is exerted on the paper web 7 lying between press roll 4 and press shoe 5.
- the press shoe 5 is made of ceramic, for example. It has on its side facing the press roll 4 a concave surface 6 on which the Press belt 3 rests.
- the press belt 3 consists of a conventional plastic fabric, which is laminated on the underside 8, that is to say on the side facing the press shoe 5, with a porous smooth film, for example.
- the press belt 3 runs around rollers 12.
- a nozzle 13 which is connected via a feed line to a storage container containing the lubricant (not shown).
- the underside 8 of the press belt 3 is thus sprayed with a lubricant (a mixture of, for example, water and glycerin), so that a lubricant film 9 is formed between the press shoe 5 and the press belt 3.
- a lubricant a mixture of, for example, water and glycerin
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a press device with an extended press zone, which has a press roll, at least one press felt, a press belt and a press shoe, a lubricant film being located between the press shoe and the press belt.
A paper web is subjected to an ongoing drying process during papermaking. The paper web also passes through one or more drying stages in which it is exposed to an elevated temperature and a considerable pressure between heated rollers. The water still contained in the paper web is largely evaporated.
For reasons of cost, it is desirable that the paper web which is fed to the drying stage contains only a little water, since a smaller amount of water evaporates faster or with less energy input. For this purpose, the drying stage is preceded by at least one pressing device with an extended pressing zone (long-gap presses or shoe presses). Such a pressing device has a larger pressure zone in the machine direction than two conventional, counter-rotating rollers. The press device consists of a press roll and a corresponding press shoe. The paper web runs between the press roll and press shoe. This means that every area of the paper web is exposed to increased pressure over a longer period of time and is therefore drained more.
In the previously common pressing devices, at least one liquid-impermeable press belt runs between the press shoe and the press roll. On the side facing the press roll, the paper web is between one or two press felts. The press felts absorb the escaping water.
To reduce the friction between the press belt and the press shoe, the press belt is generally lubricated with oil. For this reason it must also be completely impermeable to liquids, because otherwise the oil will pass through the press belt and the press felt and the paper web would pollute. Therefore, press belts are usually used, which consist of a base fabric (carcass) with a uniform layer and a resin coating with a uniform thickness and are usually provided with a fiber reinforcement (because of the high contact pressure). However, the coating makes the press belt relatively stiff. This is disadvantageous because it is subjected to very high pressures on the press shoe, considerable flexing work on the deflecting rollers and usually also considerable tensile stress.
There are therefore numerous proposals for making the press belt flexible and at the same time impermeable to liquids. In European patent EP 0 194 602 e.g. describes such a tape and a method for its production. It essentially consists of a base fabric that is impregnated with a water-impermeable polymer layer. German patent DE 32 35 468 describes a press belt which is coated only on one side, namely towards the side of the press shoe. A similar press belt is also described in German patent DE 32 31 039. The resulting press belts are still unsatisfactorily stiff.
No. 4,482,430 describes a press belt which is also impermeable to liquids and is lubricated with water. The side of the press shoe applied coating consists of a compressible material and has grooves for absorbing the water. During the pressing process, the coating is pressed together and the press belt floats on a water film. The disadvantage of this is the low resilience of the compressible material under flexing and tensile stress.
The numerous efforts in this area signal that an optimal press belt, which is both liquid-impermeable and flexible, tensile and low-wear, has not yet been found.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a pressing device with an extended pressing zone, in which the pressing belt is satisfactorily flexible, tensile and low-wear.
The solution to this problem is that the press belt is permeable to liquid and the lubricant film consists of water or a mono- or polyhydric alcohol with up to 12 carbon atoms or a mixture of two or more of these substances.
The pressing device according to the invention has the great advantage that the conflict described above is avoided. A liquid-permeable press belt is inevitably more flexible than a coated, liquid-impermeable one Tape. When using water or alcohol as a lubricant, it does no harm if part of the lubricant passes through the press belt into the paper web. The amount required for lubrication is very small compared to the amount of water present in the paper web. Because of their relatively high vapor pressure, the alcohols used according to the invention can easily be removed from the paper web in the subsequent drying process. The alcohols cannot react with the substances contained in the paper web even by thermal action alone.
This means that numerous alternatives are available for the material and the structure of the press belt. A porous press belt made of a base fabric and a porous coating is suitable, for example. A porous, generally slotted or perforated film is suitable as a coating. It can be connected to the base fabric by heat activation or glued to the base fabric. A needled fleece can also be used as a porous coating Serve filaments. The same materials as for the base fabric are suitable, as well as mineral fibers, glass fibers or carbon fibers.
The press belt can just as well be a simple spiral belt or a simple fabric without a coating.
If you decide on a fabric, a rib fabric is particularly useful because the press belt only rests on the shoe with a reduced surface, which also leads to reduced friction.
If the press belt is provided with plastic threads towards the press shoe, an additional friction-reducing effect from above is also achieved.
The press shoe itself can be made of metal, plastic or ceramic. Plastic and ceramics are particularly suitable because they have reduced friction.
The lubricant is sprayed onto the press belt from below using a spray device at the inlet of the paper web. The spraying device at the inlet can also be oriented in such a way that it is not the press belt that is sprayed in, but the press shoe.
In addition to water, e.g. mono- or polyhydric butyl alcohols, amyl alcohols or hexyl alcohols as well as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or glycerin can be used. A mixture of water and glycerin is particularly suitable.
The pressing device according to the invention can be operated under the usual conditions as the conventional pressing devices.

Figure 1 shows a press device 1 with an extended press zone 2, in which a paper web 7 runs between a press belt 3 (eg press felt) and a paper machine felt 3 'in the direction of arrow A.
