Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the use of water-soluble or water-dispersible graft polymers of proteins which can be obtained by radical-initiated polymerization of acrylic or methacrylic acid or salts thereof with optionally further monomers in the presence of proteins, as tanning agents in leather. and fur production.
  • the invention relates to polymeric tanning agents based on such water-soluble or water-dispersible graft polymers.
  • the main tanning is usually carried out with mineral tanning agents such as basic chromium, aluminum and / or zirconium salts alone or in combination with synthetic tanning agents. Subsequent retanning with natural or synthetic tanning agents serves to improve leather properties such as feel, softness, grain structure and fullness.
