Description

The present invention relates to a timepiece analog electronic with date disc multifunctional to display, in addition to the time current, at least two other time information by means of different symbols carried by the same disc mobile or fixed.

Besides the primary function of a timepiece which is to indicate the current time it is very often wished to also have other information horometric, such as the date, the cycle number annual or the name of the current month.

To provide such time information, already knows timepieces with a disc rotary divided into 31 consecutive positions representative of the date, some of the said positions which can also give the request a horometric information other than the calendar of the month current. A timepiece of this type is notably described in patent CH 663 512. In this document the exemplary embodiment relates more particularly a timepiece in which the clock signal of the timepiece circuit is operated by a management unit for a perpetual calendar circuit including day, month and year counters allowing to control the rotation of a disc of dates to one of the first twelve positions corresponding to the number of the current month. Others say variants it is also planned to use the seven first positions to indicate the day number of the week or the first four to indicate the number of the annual cycle in a four-year cycle. Such device offers the advantage of providing a construction mechanical simpler than previously known in which time information were displayed using dials, discs or different crowns.

However, this device has the drawback, for an average attention user, to leave it in uncertainty about the information he reads being given that for example the same number 11 can as well represent the 11th day of any month that the 11th month of the current year.

We also know timepieces having a disc or crown divided into more than 31 equal sectors. In document EP 0 621 519, the disc calendar includes a 32nd position intended for indicate the end of the battery life of the timepiece, position which cannot provide any horometric information since it is not all subject to the time base. EP 0 366 610 describes for example a watch provided with a crown divided into 52 equal sectors to indicate the rank of the week of the current year. Analogously the document CH 557 052 describes a watch comprising a divided disc in equal sectors numbered from 1 to 49. Such devices have the same disadvantages as those indicated previously if we were considering using some of these positions to display other information horometric.

De façon analogue le brevet US 3760 585 décrit une pièce d'horlogerie dans laquelle 9 positions sont laissées libres entre les quantièmes portant les numéros 1 et 31.Several documents finally describe devices in which the calendar of the month occupies 31 positions on a crown comprising 35 equal sectors intended for to be coincident with 35 equal sectors of another crown on which the days of five are inscribed consecutive weeks. The four sectors left free by the date are not used for any other time function. Such timepieces are for example described in documents FR 996 795 and CH 667,965. Similarly, US Pat. No. 3,760,585 describes a timepiece in which 9 positions are left free between the dates bearing the numbers 1 and 31.

In document FR 2 605 118, four zones correspond to 12 prohibited steps and therefore do not deliver no time information.

As we can see, the time indicators known from the prior art possibly allow display more than one category of information horometric, but only by means of symbols of the same nature, regularly spaced over the whole or over a part of a disc, with a possible risk of confusion as for the nature of the information displayed, the area possibly devoid of symbols delivering no additional time information.

The present invention aims to overcome the disadvantages of this prior art by providing a timepiece in which the date disc has at least two display areas supporting symbols of different natures so as to allow display on demand, clearly and without risk of confusion, at least two different categories time information.

To this end, a timepiece according to the invention comprises a first display for the current time, by means of hands driven by a motor M 1 , and a second display by disc and indicator movable one relative to the other by means of a second two-way stepping motor M 2 for displaying at least two other time information.

The timepiece includes:
  • a time-keeping circuit and a motor driving circuit M 1 for displaying the time delivering a daily signal S j
  • a circuit for interpreting the manipulations of an external control unit delivering a signal S k representative of one or more time information to be displayed
  • a circuit for managing a perpetual calendar comprising a first unit called "master block" and a second unit called "slave block".

The master unit is provided with calendar counters and a multiplexer and delivers in response to the signals S j and S k a reference signal S c representative of the rank of said information on the second display.

The slave block is provided with a counter delivering to a comparator-subtractor a disk signal S D representative of the value of the instantaneous rank of the displayed time information.

The present invention is characterized in that the comparator-subtractor also receives the setpoint signal S c and delivers at its output a signal S R making it possible both to define the direction of rotation of a motor pitch of the motor M 2 by means of a drive circuit and incrementing or decrementing the counter of the slave block repeatedly until the disk signal S D is equal to the reference signal S c . In other words, the mobile element of the second display is moved until S D = S c , that is to say that the called time information is displayed.

The invention is also characterized in that the second display has at least two separate areas with different symbols for each category horometric information, the symbols of said zones occupying successive rows on said display.

The second display can consist of a disc rotary bringing the symbols next to a counter, or a needle moving next to symbols carried by a fixed disk.

In the above, "date disc" must be understood in the broad sense, that is to say as designating a disc with any number of positions. But according to a preferred embodiment one of the zones has 31 positions for the agenda numbers in the month.

The same timepiece according to the invention may for example have 35 positions to display the date in Arabic numerals on 31 positions and the annual cycle number in Roman numerals on the 4 next positions, or 38 positions to display the date and the day of the week by means of one or several letters, i.e. another 50 positions allowing display the date, the day of the week and the name of the month. According to the design of the interpretation circuit, this horometric information of different natures can be called by successive presses, by example, on the crown, or by a single press allowing the linking of said information horometric in a predetermined order with a return automatic to preferential time information, such as the calendar for the current month. The duration display of each time information is set by a timer incorporated into said circuit of interpretation.

The invention will be better understood with reference to the accompanying drawings corresponding to two embodiments given by way of nonlimiting examples, in which
  • Figure 1 schematically shows a watch according to the invention giving the date and the annual cycle number.
  • Figure 2 shows the circuit diagram of the watch in Figure
  • FIG. 3 schematically represents a second embodiment of a watch according to the invention giving the date and the day of the week.

As can be seen in FIG. 1, a watch according to the invention comprises a first permanent display, a second display which can be modified on request and at least one external control member. The permanent display is conventionally constituted by an hour hand 1, a minute hand 2 and a second hand 3, driven by a classic clockwork movement by a one-way motor M 1 . The display on demand consists of a date disc 5 having a display 4 comprising a total of 35 regularly spaced positions which can be brought opposite a window 6 by means of a two-way motor M 2 , controlled by a circuit management of a perpetual calendar. Display 4 is divided into two zones 4a and 4b comprising respectively Arabic numerals from 1 to 31 for the agenda numbers in the month and Roman numerals I, II, III and IV for the position of the year ongoing in a 4 year cycle. In the watch shown, the control member is constituted by the crown on which pressures can be exerted. A short press makes it possible to replace the date display "11" in the window with the annual cycle number, for example "III", a new press bringing the display back to its initial state "11". By successively pressing twice briefly, the display of the annual cycle "III" is displayed for a predetermined duration, for example 8 seconds, and the disc automatically returns to the preferred display of the date "11". The crown also makes it possible to carry out, by appropriate maneuvers, the correction of the time information and the manual resynchronization of the time indicator in the event of loss of motor steps, in the case where the timepiece is not provided an automatic resynchronization, for example by means of a contact which is established when the first position is on the display.

The electronic circuit shown in Figure 2 schematically shows the components of the three modules necessary for the operation of a timepiece according to the invention. The first module is a guard circuit time 10, and the second module 20 (master block) forms with the third module 30 (slave block) a circuit perpetual calendar.

Il délivre aussi un deuxième signal journalier Sj destiné à incrémenter le bloc maítre 20.The timepiece circuit 10 comprises, in known manner, an oscillator 11 stabilized in frequency by a quartz resonator 12 supplying a signal, for example from 32768 Hz to a frequency divider 13. The frequency divider 13 delivers a first signal S 1 for the drive circuit 14 controlling a first motor M 1 driving the hands 1, 2, 3 of an analog display. It also delivers a second daily signal S j intended to increment the master block 20.

Cette valeur de consigne est représentative du rang occupé par l'information horométrique correspondant au signal Sk sur l'affichage 4 du disque 5.The signal S j can also be obtained by processing a signal S M emitted by a mechanical contact linked to the drive of the needles, said contact closing every 12 hours. The master block 20 comprises binary counters 21, 22, 23 assembled in the usual manner not shown, for the days of the month (S bits), the months (4 bits) and the years (2 bits). It also receives, via a circuit 15 for interpreting the manipulations carried out at the crown 9, a signal S k representative of the time information to be displayed by the rotary disc 5. As a function of the signal S k received, the contents of the counters 21, 22 and 23 are read in a multiplexer 24 which delivers at its output a signal S c representative of a value called "set point value", intended for the "slave block" 30. This set value is representative of the rank occupied by the time information corresponding to the signal S k on the display 4 of the disc 5.

The slave block 30 includes a disk counter 31 in which the last position displayed in the window 6 is stored. The counter 31 comprises as many bits as necessary to memorize all the disk positions. In this example, the counter 31 therefore comprises 6 bits for the 35 positions 1 to 31, I to IV, the positions I to IV therefore being represented in the counter by the rows 32 to 35. The counter 31 delivers at its output a signal S D representative of the disc value. The signals S c and S D are read in a comparator-subtractor 32 which delivers at its output a signal S R which determines the direction of rotation of the second motor M 2 , driven by a motor pitch via the circuit of attack 33. The signal S R will also make it possible to increment or decrement the counter 31 which will therefore contain a new disk value. The same operation will continue repeatedly until the disk value is equal to the set value. In other words, the signal S R will be at level 0 and the motor M 2 will no longer receive a driving pulse.

On the circuit diagram which has just been described, there are also shown signals S 1 , S 2 , S 3 emitted by the interpretation circuit 15 towards the multiplexer 24 to effect, if necessary, corrections in the calendar circuit. perpetual. It will also be observed that it is not necessary to interpose a decoder between the 2-bit annual cycle counter 23 and the multiplexer 24, as would be the case in the device of the aforementioned patent CH 663 512 if one wanted to use the 31 calendar positions to display the annual cycle. The invention therefore provides in this respect a simplified construction.

Le retour commandé ou automatique à l'affichage du quantième s'effectue selon un processus comparable à partir des valeurs de consigne et de disque qui seront respectivement Sc = ll et SD = 34.Returning to the example of FIG. 1, in which the disk has 35 positions, the reference value of the comparator-subtractor 32 used to determine which will be the shortest path is | 81 |. The display indicates the 11th day of a month, that is to say a disc value equal to 11. By pressing the crown, we will call the annual cycle number, assumed to be equal to III, c ' ie corresponding to a set value of 34, and the difference 34 - ll = 23 is compared in the comparator-subtractor at | 81 |. This difference being greater than | 81 | the signal S R will go to level -1 to cause the drive of the disc from a position counterclockwise. The new disk value will then be 10 in counter 31. The new disk value will again be subtracted from the unchanged set value, and the operation will continue repeatedly until the disk value is equal at the set value and the disc rotation is stopped to display III. The controlled or automatic return to the date display takes place according to a comparable process from the setpoint and disc values which will be S c = ll and S D = 34 respectively.

In the above, it has been implicitly assumed that the number of teeth of the wheel driving the disc is the same as the number of positions, but it is obvious that the drive circuit 33 can be adapted to execute the motor M 2 as many steps as necessary to move from one position on the disc to the next position. Equivalently, the multiplexer 24 could be modified to take into account the space occupied by the symbols of each zone on the display.

The display 4 is divided into two zones 4a and 4b corresponding respectively to 31 positions for the dates and to 7 positions for the days of the week represented by their first three letters. The angular sectors of the positions of the zone 4b being larger than those of the positions of the zone 4a, the gear toothed drive will comprise for example 83 teeth, so that a position of the zone 4a corresponds to 2 teeth and that a position in zone 4b corresponds to 3 teeth. In the electronic circuit of FIG. 2, the master unit 20 includes an additional counter for the 7 days of the week and the multiplexer 24 is modified so that the setpoint signal S c takes into account the number of steps different from each zoned.

It goes without saying that the examples which have just been described may also incorporate technologies earlier. In the example shown in Figure 1, it is for example possible to have, in addition to the display date and annual cycle, display of the number of the months on the first 12 positions of the date. Likewise, if this is imposed for technical reasons or aesthetic it is possible, while still having at at least two areas with time information of different natures, to have one or more others areas with no time information.

Other modifications or adaptations may be brought by the skilled person without departing from the scope of the present invention.
