Definitions

  • Conventional firefighting gloves are usually made of leather and are reinforced in the area of the ankles on the back of the glove. Although these leather gloves have pleasant wearing properties, they are not sufficiently temperature-resistant and transmit the heat relatively well to the skin. In addition, the mechanical stability of the gloves is often not sufficient. Leather does not provide sufficient protection when handling sharp-edged objects, such as broken glass. Liquid can also penetrate through leather, which is not only uncomfortable for the wearer, but can also be a health hazard if chemicals or HIV-infected blood penetrate through the gloves.
