A pressure foot for a multi-needle lockstitch sewing machine has a holder which effects the vertical motion of the several needles held, a post to guide the foot vertically, a means for exerting foot pressure on the surface of the item (41) to be sewn and a preceding main plate (51). The pressure foot (13) is led through an opening (52) in the plate under the action of a spring (39) acting from above to press the item onto the machine bed (15) in the region where the needle is putting in stitches. When the needle (1) is out of the item the foot can be lifted by the bar (7) carrying the needle.

Description

The invention relates to a pressing device for a multi-needle quilting machine according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Multi-needle quilting machines are used for quilting mattress pads and the like and have a large number of needles arranged side by side and one behind the other in any pattern, which are synchronously inserted into the quilted material by a common drive and, after taking over the lower thread and pulling the lower thread into the sewing material, be led out of this. Modern multi-needle quilting machines can perform 1200 stitches per minute. So that the quilted material is not lifted by the needles moving out of the quilted material after the puncture, it is known to attach pre-compression plates in front of the needle bars which press the quilted material onto the quilted material table. The pressure of the lasts must be so great that the quilted material is not or only slightly raised by the needles and that the longitudinal and transverse transport of the quilted material below the pre-compression plates is guaranteed at the same time. It is also known to lift the precompression plates from the quilted material after the needles emerge from the quilted material by means of a separate drive specially provided for this purpose. The ones that run across the entire width of the quilting machine On the one hand, pre-compression plates are located at a relatively large distance from the needles, so that the quilted material can be raised a little despite the presence of the pre-compression plates, and on the other hand, the means for lifting the pre-compression plates in time with the needle strokes require a complex and to generate the necessary contact pressure stable mechanics. The known pressing means on quilting machines are also not able to adapt to differences in thickness in the quilted material.

The object of the invention is to provide a pressing device which presses the quilted material against the quilted goods table in the immediate vicinity of the needle insertion point, holds the quilted material pressed onto the quilted material table during the needle exit, and after the needle exits the quilted material Press releases.

This object is achieved by the features of patent claim 1.

With the pressing device according to the invention, it is possible to clamp the quilted goods on the quilted goods table shortly before the needle starts to be inserted and hold them there until the needle has completely left the quilted goods. This ensures that the lower thread can be pulled completely into the quilted material by the upper thread. Furthermore, the quilted material is immediately after the end of each stitch for the longitudinal or Cross transport released. The pressure foot that completely or partially surrounds the needle protects the tip of the needle during the transport of the quilted goods, even if the quilted material touches the sole of the pressure foot due to its swelling filling. The pressure foot hurries ahead of the needle during lowering until the desired pressing force is built up on the quilted material. Only then will the needle begin to pierce the quilted fabric. The depth of penetration of the pressure foot into the quilted fabric can be precisely adjusted and adjusted; it also adapts to the thickness of the filling at the puncture site.

In FIG. 1, reference number 3 shows a multi-needle quilting machine with a frame 4, a sewing material table 15 for the sewing material 41, which can be pulled off from a sewing material supply roll 8 in front of the quilting machine 3 via the sewing material table 15. The needle holder rod 7 with the needles 1 is arranged above the sewing material table 15 and is displaceably mounted on vertical guides 10. The needle holder rod 7 is connected to the frame 4 by pairs of knee and lever pairs 18 which interact. The knee joint lever pairs 18 consist of two knee joint levers 20, the knee joints 22 of which are connected to one another by a push rod 24. In the case of a multi-needle quilting machine 3 of large width, instead of a single needle holder rod 7 there are a plurality of needle holder rods 7, preferably of the same length, which are each suspended on the frame 4 with one or more pairs of knee joints and levers 18. The push rod 24 can extend over the entire width of the machine 3 or can be composed of several sections corresponding to the length of the individual needle holder rods 7. 1 shows a crank drive 26 on the right side of the multi-needle quilting machine 3, which is connected to the push rod 24 by means of a crank rod 28. The needle holder rod 7 is approximately in the highest possible position in FIG. the needles 1 are approximately at their uppermost reversal point.

In Figure 2, the needle 1 with a screw 5 on the horizontal needle holder rod 7, also needle ruler called, attached. Each needle holder rod 7 extends over a portion of the width of the multi-needle quilting machine 3 and carries a plurality of identical needles 1. The needle holder rod 7 is moved in the vertical direction by the amount of the needle stroke by the drive 26 indicated in FIG. A preferred drive is described in Swiss Patent Application No. 3785 / 94-2 dated December 14, 1994.

To the right of the needle holder rod 7, the guide rod 11 is fastened as a vertical guide for each needle 1 and guides a pressure foot 13 perpendicular to the horizontal quilting table 15. The pressure foot 13 has at its lower end a preferably dome-shaped pressure head 17, in the center of which there is a bore 19 is inserted for the passage of the needle 1. The pressing head 17 is guided longitudinally essentially without play by the guide sleeve 21 surrounding the guide rod 11. In order to prevent rotation of the guide sleeve 21 or the pressure foot 13, a guide bore 23 is provided in the guide sleeve 21, which is penetrated by an auxiliary guide rod 25. A stop 27 with an adjusting screw 29 can be seated on the auxiliary guide rod 25, with which the stop 27 on the auxiliary guide rod 25 can be fixed. A damping element 31 is placed on the upper shoulder of the stop 27, in the present example it is an O-ring.

At the upper end of the guide sleeve 21, a stop lug 33 projects so far to the left that its end comes to rest over the vertical travel range of the needle holder rod 7. An elastic buffer element 35 is also attached to the nose 33, which dampens the shock and reduces noise when it comes into contact with the needle holder rod 7.

On the upper end of the guide rod 11 there is a spring-holding element 37 which is displaceable and adjustable on the latter and by means of which the pretension of a helical spring 39 which wraps around the guide rod 11 can be adjusted. The helical spring 39 rests on the one hand on the top of the guide sleeve 21 and on the other hand on the underside of the spring holding element 37.

The quilted material 41 lies between the dome-shaped underside of the pressing head 17 and the surface of the sewing or quilting material table 15. In the example shown, this consists of a cotton core 43 and a lower material 45 and an outer material 47.
A pre-compression plate 51 is arranged parallel to and above the sewing material table 15, the distance of which from the surface of the sewing material table 15 can be adjusted and which has a raised edge 49 on the inlet side. In the area of the pressure feet 13, recesses 52 are made in the pre-compression plate 51, through which the pressure heads 17 can be passed with play. The compression plate 51 carries in the present example both the guide rods 11 and also the auxiliary guide rods 25 with the pressure feet 13 slidably attached thereto. The attachment is carried out with screws 54, the lower ends of the auxiliary guide rods 25 also engaging in a centering hole 56 in the surface of the pre-compression plate 51 for centering purposes.

The arrangement as shown in FIG. 2 is present when the needle 1 is at its upper reversal point and the pressure head 17 of the pressure foot 13 also assumes its highest possible position, which is lifted from the quilted material 41.

In Figure 3, the drive, not shown, leads the needle holder rod 7 together with the needles 1 vertically downward. During this movement, the tip 53 of the needle 1 is always protected within the bore 21 in the pressure head 17. During the lowering movement of the needle holder rod 7, the pressure foot 13 with the stop lug 33, resting on the needle holder rod 7 at the top, follows the downward movement due to the prestressing of the spring 39. As soon as the dome-shaped underside of the pressing head 17 begins to press on the outer fabric 47 after the latter has passed through the recess 52 in the pre-compression plate 51, the movement of the pressing foot 13 is opposed to resistance. This resistance depends on the elasticity of the cotton core 43 and the thickness thereof. The successively increasing resistance causes the quilting material 41 to be compressed and thus the stop lug 33 to be pulled off Needle holder rod 7 is lifted off. The downward movement of the pressure foot 13 can be limited by the stop 27 in order to adjust the thickness of the quilted material 41 in the region of the seam to be produced, if desired. Since each pressure foot 13 is individually adjustable, a topographically extending pattern can be generated in this way along the row of needles.

Now the needle 1 and the pressure foot 13 move relative to each other. During the insertion of the needle 1 into the quilted material 41, the latter is held in place by the pressing head 17. This state - shown in FIG. 4 - is maintained until the needle holder rod 7, which moves upward again after the puncture, strikes the stop lug 33 or the buffer element 35 attached to the stop lug 33, thereby lifting the pressure foot 13 off the quilted material 41 . During this lifting process, the spring 39 is compressed. At the time when the needle holder rod 7 begins to raise the pressure foot 13, the needle tip 53 is already inside the bore 19. Before the pressure foot 13 is lifted off the quilted material 41, the needle 1 pulls the upper thread with the lower thread taken over below the quilted material table 15 (both threads not shown) into the quilting material 41. Thereafter, the pressing head 17 is lifted off the quilted material 41 in synchronism with the upward movement of the needle 1. The situation is again as shown in FIG. 2 and allows the start of a new puncture and the shifting of the material 41 in front of it .
