Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for packaging a roll from a wound material web, in which an end cover protruding radially on all sides over the circumference of the roll is brought into contact with the end face of the roll and the radial projection is folded onto the circumference of the roll.
- the invention relates to a device for packaging a roll of a wound material web with an end cover application station, which has an essentially cup-shaped contact head, which is arranged so as to be axially displaceable on the circumference of the roll in relation to the roll in order to fold in a radial projection of the end cover.
- Rolls of a wound material web usually have a diameter in the range between 0.5 and 3 m and a length that is also several meters can be.
- the weight of such rolls ranges from a few hundred kilograms to a few tons. After the production of such rolls, the rolls must be packed in order to be protected against damage from external influences during transport or storage.
- an inner end cover is therefore first placed on the two end faces of the roll.
- This inner end cover must be selected to match the diameter of the roll, i.e. its diameter must be slightly smaller than the diameter of the roll.
- the circumferential surface of the roll is then wrapped with a packaging web, for example made of wrapping paper, with an axial protrusion.
- the axial protrusion is folded in on the end faces or the inner end covers located there.
- an outer front cover is glued to the folded-in overhang.
- the outer end cover must also be selected to match the diameter of the roll.
- Another disadvantage of this packaging is that the inner end cover must somehow be held on the end of the roll as long as it is not yet held by the folded-in axial overhang of the packaging web.
- DE 28 38 862 A1 shows a method and a device of the type mentioned at the outset, in which, regardless of the size of the diameter of the roll to be packaged only one front cover size is used. This is so large that it protrudes radially on all sides of the roll even with the largest roll of material web to be packed.
- a cup-shaped contact head After placing the end cover on the end of the roll, a cup-shaped contact head is pushed axially over the roll.
- the application head has an inflatable bead, which is then supplied with compressed air. By inflating this bead, the front cover is pressed firmly against the circumference of the roll and adheres to a previously applied adhesive tape.
- the end cover since there is more material available on the outer edge of the end cover than can be accommodated by the circumference of the roll, the end cover has to fold onto the surface of the roll, which can lead to certain problems, for example, that the protrusion is not uniform everywhere the scope.
- the invention has for its object to improve the packaging.
- edge incisions which are distributed over the circumference, now make it possible for individual edge portions of the end cover to at least partially overlap when folded onto the circumference. Wrinkling is not excluded. However, their negative effects can largely be eliminated or reduced.
- the overlapping edge sections of the end cover are generally less thick than the previously known folds, so that only small elevations result when the circumference is subsequently wrapped with a packaging web. Hereby the roll behavior of the roll is improved, which proves to be advantageous in handling and transport.
- the edge of the end cover folded in on the circumference is attached with greater security. With a corresponding selection of the distance between the edge incisions, it is ensured that each edge portion adheres to the circumference of the roller between two edge incisions.
- the radially inner end of the edge incisions advantageously lies essentially on or somewhat outside a circular line, the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the roller.
- An exact adjustment to the diameter is not necessary because a small protrusion without incisions on the edges can be folded into the circumference relatively easily.
- the fact that the length of the edge incisions is limited to the circumference of the roller ensures that the end cover still protects the entire front side of the roller. On the other hand, it is also ensured that the radial protrusion can be folded onto the circumference of the roll with relatively few disruptive folds.
- the cuts are preferably made from the inside to the outside in relation to the end cover. While one normally cuts inwards from the edge when producing edge sections, the cutting direction is reversed in this embodiment. This has the advantage that you cut away from the roll, so the risk of damage to the roll by cutting is drastically reduced. In addition, it is relatively safe to adjust to the diameter of the roll.
- the front cover is held open at the start of the cut.
- the end cover can then be pierced by a cutting tool or be punctured because it cannot evade. This also allows the beginning of the cut to be carried out with the necessary accuracy. The risk of the front cover tearing at the start of the cut is drastically reduced.
- a cutting tool is advantageously moved axially in relation to the roller for each edge cut.
- the margin cuts can all be made at the same time. Due to the axial movement, the radial protrusion of the end cover is folded in at the same time as the cut on the circumference of the roll, which saves additional work steps.
- this type of cutting ensures that adjacent edge sections can overlap, especially when the knife is slightly inclined to a radial plane. In this case, one edge section is pressed down by the cutting tool itself, while the other edge section is guided over the first-mentioned edge section.
- the cutting tool is advantageously simultaneously moved in the circumferential direction during the axial movement. With a corresponding control of the movement, it can be achieved that at least one edge of an edge section then runs essentially parallel to the axis of the roll, which can be advantageous, for example, when the roll is subsequently wrapped with a peripheral packaging.
- the cutting tool is set at least with its tip to a predetermined distance from the circumference of the roller.
- the packaging can be adapted to different diameters of the rolls with a simple measure. Nevertheless, only a single front cover size is required, which saves storage space and storage.
- the cutting tool is pivoted within a plane running radially with respect to the roller.
- the tip of the cutting tool is the part that starts the cut. Due to the pivotability of the cutting tool, the beginning of the cut can now be varied, which allows a relatively simple adaptation to different reel diameters.
- the object is achieved in a device of the type mentioned at the outset in that the application head has a plurality of cutting knives distributed in the circumferential direction in the region of an end adjacent to the roller for making edge incisions in the end cover.
- the cutting knives first come into engagement with the radial protrusion of the end cover. You pierce him. If the application head continues to move axially, the application head places the projection of the end cover on the circumference of the roller. At the same time, the cutting knives produce the desired edge cuts.
- the cutting knives are blunt on the side facing the roller. This considerably reduces the risk of the roller being damaged by the cutting knives.
- the cutting knives are adjustable at least with their tips to different radial distances from the central axis of the application head. This enables adaptation to different roll diameters.
- a magazine is advantageously provided for receiving application heads with different diameters. Because different application heads are used, it can also be adapted to different roll diameters. The adjustment range of the cutting knife can be kept small. In order to place a front cover on the roll, the contact head that has the next larger diameter than the roll is always selected.
- the magazine preferably has movable storage spaces with which the required application head can be moved between the roller and an axial drive. A complex transport from the magazine to the working position is therefore unnecessary. The feed head is moved together with the magazine.
- the magazine is designed as a turret. This allows short change times.
- the diameter of the roll is known in advance. It can then be reported to a control device for the turret.
- An end cover holding device is preferably provided, which is arranged in front of the end face of the roller and holds the end cover essentially in the region of its peripheral edge.
- the front cover is thus stretched, so to speak, although this should not be understood to mean that it must be under tension. Rather, it is only kept spread out.
- By holding in the area of its peripheral edge it is possible to use relatively soft or unstable end caps. These have the advantage that they can be folded more easily onto the circumference of the roll. By stretching it will be easier for the cutting tool to start the edge cut. Even if the end cover is not yet subjected to tension at the start of the operation, i.e. is suspended tightly in the end cover holding device, it is subjected to increasing stress as the cutting knife moves axially until the tip of the cutting knife can finally pass through it. From then on, the edge incision is created in a cutting manner.
- the end cover holding device preferably has a suction device acted upon by negative pressure. With such a suction device, the front cover can be easily held in the desired position without the need for further mechanical parts.
- the suction device can release the end cover just as reliably if its radial projection is to be folded onto the circumference of the roll.
- the end cover holding device preferably has an adhesive transfer device, in particular in the form of a heating surface. This ensures that the end cover is provided with an adhesive layer, the expansion of the adhesive layer being limited to the edge. If the end cover holding device is designed with a heating surface, a hot melt adhesive is used as the adhesive. The fact that the adhesive layer is arranged on the end cover and no longer on the surface of the circumference of the roll ensures that the overlapping edge sections of the end cover also adhere securely and firmly to the roll. This was not always the case with an uncontrolled folding.
- the application head preferably has a pressure device acting on the circumference of the roller, which extends axially at least to the tip of the cutting knife or protrudes over them.
- a pressure device acting on the circumference of the roller, which extends axially at least to the tip of the cutting knife or protrudes over them.
- all known means come into consideration as the pressing device, for example the inflatable bellows disclosed in DE 28 38 862 A1.
- Other hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical devices are possible, the pressure not necessarily having to be carried out simultaneously over the entire circumference of the roll.
- a device 1 for packing a roll of material web 2 which is referred to in the following for short as "roll" has an end cover application station 3 with an application head 4.
- the roller 2 can be raised by a lifting device 5, so that its circumference is free on all sides.
- a holding device 6 for a front cover 7 is also provided in the front cover placement station 3.
- the holding device 6 has an annular frame 8, the inside diameter of which is larger than the largest diameter of the roller 2 to be expected.
- the roll diameter is usually in the range of 500 to about 1800 mm.
- the frame 8 will therefore have an inner diameter of approximately 2 m.
- the frame 8 is connected via a line 9 to a vacuum source, not shown, which through channels 10 in the frame 8 the front, i.e. the side that is adjacent to the roller 2 is subjected to negative pressure so that the end cover 7 adheres to the frame 8 and is held there. Because the frame 8 holds the front cover 7 in the region of its edge, and practically over the entire circumference, this holding is also referred to below as “stretching", even if the front cover 7 is not itself stretched like an eardrum.
- the holding device 6 can be loaded in various ways. It is conceivable that the holding device 6, more precisely, its frame 8 is moved to a storage location of end covers and sucks in the uppermost end cover there. However, it is also possible that an end cover feed device, not shown in more detail, is provided, as described, for example, in DE 31 00 754 C2. However, it is sufficient if only a single front cover size is kept in stock.
- the application head 4 is designed in the manner of a pot with a bottom 11 and a peripheral side wall.
- a receptacle 13 for an axial drive 14 is provided on the bottom 11.
- the side wall 12 is provided in the region of its end adjacent to the roller 2 with a plurality of cutting knives 15 distributed in the circumferential direction, which protrude axially somewhat beyond the side wall 12 in the direction of the roller 2. Furthermore, pressure devices 16 are provided between the knives, each of which can be pivoted radially inward via a drive 17.
- the application head 4 is accommodated in a magazine 18 which is designed as a revolver magazine, i.e. a carrier 19 with different storage locations for application heads 4, 4 'is rotatable about an axis 20, so that the application head 4 can be moved into a position between the drive 14 and the roller 2.
- a magazine 18 which is designed as a revolver magazine, i.e. a carrier 19 with different storage locations for application heads 4, 4 'is rotatable about an axis 20, so that the application head 4 can be moved into a position between the drive 14 and the roller 2.
- the knives 15 are pivotally arranged on the side wall 12, a rotary drive 21 only shown schematically ensuring that the tip 22 of the cutting knives 15 can be moved radially inwards or radially outwards, as shown in FIG. 3 once with a solid line and once with dashed lines is shown. In this way it is possible to adapt the tip 22 of the cutting knife 15 to different roll diameters.
- the cutting knives 15 are inclined against a radially extending plane 23.
- the cutting knives 15 have a cutting edge 24 on their upper side. On their underside 25 they are blunt.
- the device works as follows: A roller 2, the diameter of which is known from a previous measurement, is raised with the lifting device 5 so that its circumference is free on all sides and its central axis with the central axis of the application head 4 and of the frame 8 of the holding device is aligned.
- This can be done, for example, by applying the adhesive layer in the form of an adhesive tape or in some other way. But it can also be a previously applied hot melt adhesive, which is made sticky by heating the frame 8, for example with the help of electric current.
- a fitting head 4 matching the diameter of the roller 2 has previously been placed between the roller 2 and the drive 14 by rotating the carrier 19 about the axis 20.
- the application head 4 is now moved axially in the direction of the roller 2 with the aid of the drive 5. After a certain distance, the tips 22 of the cutting knives 15 come into contact with the open end cover 7 and penetrate it. At this time, the vacuum in line 9 can be switched off, so that the front cover 7 can detach from the frame 8. With a further axial movement of the application head 4 in the direction of the roll 2, the end cover 7 is first brought into contact with the end face 27 of the roll. With a further axial movement of the contact head 4, the wall 12 presses the radial projection of the end cover 7 onto the peripheral surface 28 of the roller 2. The cutting knives 15 produce edge incisions during this axial movement, the cut being made from the inside to the outside. If necessary, the application head 4 can still be rotated during the axial movement.
- the edge of the end cover now has a plurality of sections which are separated from one another by the edge incisions and which can each lie individually on the peripheral surface 28 of the roller 2.
- the cutting knives 15 can be pivoted, that is to say their tips 22 can be adjusted to different distances from the central axis, a relatively good and exact adaptation of the edge incisions to the diameter of the roll 2 to be packed can be achieved. In the case of a smaller roll, the cutting knives 15 are pivoted further inwards.
- the number of cutting knives depends on the diameter of the roll to be packed and thus on the diameter of the application head 4 and on the rigidity or hardness of the material of the end cover 7. In most cases, it will be sufficient if an edge incision is made about every 10 to 20 cm in the circumferential direction.
- the ratio of the height of the side wall 12 and diameter 11 is different between feed heads 4 with different diameters.
- the pressure devices 16 can take action and press the protrusion of the end cover 7 folded onto the circumference 28 against the circumference.
- all other known pressing devices can of course also be used, for example the inflatable bead known from DE 28 38 862 A1.
