Abstract

The device feeds ink from a metering mechanism (13) to an inking vessel with roller. The mechanism is connected to a filling-level detector and distributes the ink over the length of the vessel. A counter (11) preset to match the number of items to be printed, is connected to the metering mechanism, to which it emits a signal shutting off the ink supply before printing of the batch is complete or an ink change is to take place. The counter can be operated by a timer, and is mounted near a stacking mechanism. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method and a device for supplying printing ink from an ink donor device into an ink fountain with an ink fountain roller and ink metering elements in an inking unit of a printing press.

A device of this type is known from DE-G 1 944 832, in which an ink donor device is slidably arranged on the ink fountain roller and the ink is pressed out of the ink donor device under pressure directly onto the outer surface of the ink fountain roller. A note on the disposal of the residual ink from the ink fountain cannot be found.

The fill level in the ink fountain is determined using a sensor using the echo sounder principle, and the required ink supply is calculated using a microprocessor, taking into account the inertia of the printing ink.

A method for determining the consumption of printing ink is known from DE 3 835 221 C2. In addition to a calculation of the expected amount of ink required before the start of printing, the ink consumption is continuously calculated and the amount of ink used is continuously compared with the amount introduced into the ink fountain. A refill is still available the amount of ink that remains during the execution of the print job becomes obsolete. The solution is relatively complex since a great deal of data has to be recorded and processed.

The object of the invention is to develop a solution which noticeably reduces the cleaning effort of ink remaining in the ink fountain at the end of a print job or during a planned color change. This is solved by the characterizing part of claims 1 and 2.

The invention has the advantage that there is always a minimal ink supply in the ink fountain from the start of printing, which is almost constant due to a controlled metering of the color from the ink donor device. The minimum color supply of the buffer memory is significantly lower in quantity than the conventional amount of color supply of a color box. The amount must be just enough to avoid tearing off the ink film on the ink fountain roller. The solution according to the invention allows optimum use of the paint fed into the ink fountain and noticeably reduces the problem of disposing of residual paint remaining in the paint fountain. The color is fed from a color dispenser into the buffer memory directly to the color-consuming color metering elements. The present solution is suitable for both web and sheetfed offset presses.

The invention will be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment. A sheet-fed rotary printing press is assumed.

According to FIG. 1, a sheet-fed rotary printing press is shown in series with an feeder 2, two printing units 1, each with an inking unit 4 and a delivery unit 3. 2 essentially shows an ink fountain 5 and an associated ink fountain roller 7 of the inking unit 4. The ink fountain 5 has an ink fountain base 6, to which 7 ink metering elements 8, preferably ink slides, are assigned below, centrally to the ink fountain roller. The ink metering elements 8 extend over the entire length of the ink fountain roller 7. In the ink fountain 5 in the immediate vicinity of the ink metering elements 8, a buffer store is provided between the ink fountain base 6 and the ink fountain roller 7 to form the minimum ink supply. In the ink fountain 5 of FIG. 2, a usual fill level 10 is shown with a dashed line. To form the buffer store 9, a paint dispenser 13 is arranged with its outlet opening projecting into the paint box 5. A sensor 12 is arranged in the area of the outlet opening of the color donor device 13 and is connected to the color donor device 13 in terms of circuitry. The sensor 12 controls the filling level of the buffer memory 9. The ink dispenser device 13 can be moved parallel to the ink fountain roller 7 within the ink fountain 5 (not shown). This can be achieved, for example, using a crossbeam or a portal with a corresponding linear guide. The traverse or the portal can preferably be moved vertically at the same time as the paint dispenser. The ink dispenser 13 is coupled to a preselection counter 11 for the number of sheets to be processed. The preset counter 11 can be integrated in the area of the feeder 2 or in a control center be arranged.

Farbwechsel) bewirkt die Beendigung der Farbzufuhr aus der Farbspendereinrichtung 13.The mode of operation is as follows: In the ink fountain 5, offset printing ink is fed from the ink dispenser 13 under pressure into the buffer memory 9 until a minimal ink supply is formed. In accordance with the color consumption, color from the color dispenser 13 is again metered into the buffer memory 9. For this purpose, the ink dispenser device 13 is moved parallel to the ink fountain roller 7 to the required position assigned to the ink metering elements 8. In the present example, positions 8.2; 8.3; 8.5; 8.6 and 8.9 metered in more color (FIGS. 3, 4) than in the remaining positions of the color metering elements 8. Before the end of the print job or before an upcoming color change, the ink supply from the ink dispenser 13 into the buffer memory 9 is stopped, the remaining ones being closed processing sheets are still printed, so that the minimum ink remaining in the buffer 9 is almost used up at the end of the print job. The preselection counter 11 can be set to the amount of printing material to be processed, for example according to the criteria of time or the number of sheets. A control signal before the end of printing or before a print interruption (for example color change) causes the ink supply from the ink dispenser device 13 to stop.
