Abstract

The base consists of a series of transverse bars (4), connected at their ends to a rigid frame (3) by couplings (5) which have apertures to receive the ends of the bars and supporting arms (7) beneath which have their lower ends terminating in meshing wheels or toothed segments. Each wheel or segment has a central hole (10) to receive the end of a rigid rod (11) which connects the couplings on opposite ends of the bars.     the lower branches (8') of the said angles supports (7) each end in a toothed wheel or portion thereof (9) which engages in the other, the said toothed wheels (9) comprising at their centre an orifice (10) in which is engaged the end of a rigid rod (11) attached to rotate solidly with the toothed wheel (9), the said rod (11) connecting the end-caps (5) to one another.
  2. Bedstead according to Claim 1,
    characterized in that
    the rigid rod (11) is supported at each end on the rigid frame (3) of the bedstead (1) by virtue of bearings or collars (19) which allow rotational movement.
  3. Bedstead according to Claims 1 and 2,
    characterized in that
    the rigid rods (11) comprise at one or both ends on the same side of the bedstead (1) or on both sides thereof, an elastic restoring means designed to restore the rods (11) to their original position.
  4. Bedstead according to Claim 3,
    characterized in that
    the restoring means consist preferably of a spring (12) fitted as a spiral around the rigid rod (11) and connected to the frame (3) of the bedstead (1) by means of an adjustment stud (13).
  5. Bedstead according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterized in that
    the rigid frame (3) comprises a plurality of adjustment studs (13) fitted along a vertical axis one above the other so that the end of the spring (12) can be positioned at the required height.
  6. Bedstead according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterized in that
    the rigid rod (11) preferably has a square or rectangular or fluted round cross-section with dimensions slightly smaller than the orifice (10).
  7. Bedstead according to Claim 1,
    characterized in that
    the transverse bars (4) are preferably strips of a non-flexible material.
  8. Bedstead according to Claim 1,
    characterized in that
    the end-caps (5) preferably consist of a semi-rigid material with a pronounced elastic memory.
  9. Bedstead according to any of the preceding claims,
    characterized in that
    the bedstead (1) can consist of several articulated portions and preferably a fixed portion (14) and a mobile portion (15) mounted so as to rotate relative to the said fixed portion (14).
  10. Bedstead according to Claim 9,
    characterized in that
    the said fixed portion (14) comprises a curved ramp (16) and the said mobile portion (15) comprises a carriage (17) consisting of two and preferably three rollers (18) designed to roll along the curved ramp (16).
  11. Bedstead according to Claim 10,
    characterized in that
    the said ramp (16) has a concave circular shape.
  12. Bedstead according to Claim 10,
    characterized in that
    the rollers (18) are positioned on the carriage (17) preferably with two rollers (18) on one side of the ramp (16) and the third roller (18) on the opposite side of the ramp (16), such that as the mobile portion (15) is raised or lowered, the said ramp (16) slides between the said rollers (18) while remaining in permanent contact with the latter.
  13. Bedstead according to Claims 10, 11 and 12,
    characterized in that
    the ramp (16) may be a hollow channel in which the rollers (18) are positioned so that they roll within the said ramp (16).
  14. Bedstead according to Claim 9,
    characterized in that
    the bedstead (1) can be articulated with a fixed central portion and two or more mobile end portions.
