Abstract

Described is a pile-fabric strip floor-covering for sports surfaces, in particular synthetic-grass surfaces. The floor-covering has a substrate which has apertures in it and is therefore permeable to water. Attached to the substrate are pile elements which form the pile, plus a thick elastic layer of plastic material on the underside of the substrate. To increase the water-retention capacity of the floor-covering, the plastic layer is made of open-cell cellular-plastic material, and there is a storage layer with water-retention properties on the underside of the cellular-plastic layer.

Description

The invention relates to a floor covering sheet designed as a pile for sports surfaces, in particular an artificial turf, with an opening-bearing and therefore water-permeable carrier sheet, with pole elements attached to the latter, forming the pole, and with a thick-elastic plastic layer made of an open-cell foam plastic arranged on the underside of the carrier sheet.

So-called artificial turf has become widely used as floor coverings for sports surfaces, which are knitted, knitted, woven, woven or tufted textile products made from plastic tapes and / or plastic yarns in the form of a so-called pile fabric. The pole elements simulating the blades of grass are usually made from plastic tapes which penetrate the carrier web and are fixed in it by a textile integration and / or (the latter in particular in the case of so-called tufting goods) by a partial or full-area back coating of the carrier web by means of a plastic compound.

Since the requirement is placed in particular on outdoor sports surfaces that the flooring is permeable to water, the carrier sheet of known artificial turf has openings, and with a partial back coating the latter does not remove the water permeability of the flooring. However, such floor coverings with a full-surface back coating in the form of a thick, elastic plastic layer are known, which is a plastic layer made of closed-cell foam plastic; In such a case, the back coating must be perforated to make the floor covering permeable to water.

All these known, water-permeable floor coverings described above have the disadvantage that water accumulating on the surface of the floor covering passes through the floor covering in an uncontrolled and relatively rapid manner and then dries the latter again relatively quickly. However, it has been shown that the example properties of a floor covering of the type in question, in particular a so-called artificial turf, depend very much on whether the surface of the surface is somewhat damp - the latter leads to much better example properties.

From DE-A-38 35 880, column 1, lines 20-28 there is already a floor covering of the type mentioned at the beginning, the plastic layer of an open-cell foam plastic laminated to the underside of the carrier track of the artificial turf is intended to serve the purpose of moisture and in particular to hold back rainwater, a function that even an open-cell foam plastic can only assume to a very inadequate degree - with a floor covering for sports surfaces, such a foam plastic layer cannot be made with any thickness due to its thickness-elastic properties, because otherwise there would no longer be acceptable example properties of the sports surface .

The actual subject of DE-A-38 35 880 is also an artificial turf floor covering, the upper side of which is formed by a pole which simulates the blades of grass and which is anchored in an underlying, water-permeable carrier web. A nonwoven web is arranged at a distance below this carrier web, which, like the carrier web, should be permeable to water, but should also have water-storing properties. This nonwoven web carries on her The upper side is arranged in a grid pattern, in particular hemispherical cushion elements made of a closed-cell plastic foam, and the rest of the space between the carrier web and the nonwoven web is filled with pourable material (granules). Water stored in the nonwoven web can therefore at most pass from the nonwoven web up to the carrier web due to any capillary effects of the granulate bed.

The invention had for its object to provide a water-permeable floor covering designed as a pile for sports surfaces, in particular an artificial turf, which also has water-storing properties, but which, after moistening the surface of the covering, maintains the desired example properties longer than the known floor coverings described above.

Starting from a floor covering sheet of the type mentioned at the outset, this object can be achieved according to the invention in that a storage layer made of a nonwoven fabric, a needle felt or a heavy fabric is arranged on the underside of the plastic layer and the plastic layer is designed such that it is covered when walking on the floor covering sheet has a pump effect effecting water transport from the storage layer to the carrier web.

A nonwoven fabric, a needle felt or a heavy fabric can retain much more water at the same volume, ie store it than the known open-cell foam plastics, so that with the help of such a storage layer the floor covering web according to the invention remains moist longer than the known floor coverings described above. The according to the Invention provided and a pumping effect plastic layer leads to the fact that the return transport of the water originally accumulated on the top of the floor covering from the water reservoir to the upper regions of the floor covering takes place precisely when the desired exemplary properties are required, namely while the floor covering is being used.

The plastic layer made of an open-cell foam plastic consists, for example, of a latex foam, a polyurethane foam or a foam rubber.

When rain or a moistening of the floor covering on the upper side occurs, water enters through the openings of the carrier web into the open-cell foam plastic layer and, due to gravity and / or a capillary action, reaches the storage layer, which absorbs the water until its storage volume is exhausted : Water that can no longer be stored and accumulates on the surface of the covering emerges from the floor covering through the storage layer and is drained off into the substructure or flows off laterally on the surface of a waterproof substructure. After the rain or the raining of the floor covering, the surface dries z. B. from sun and wind relatively quickly, but when pressing on the flooring according to the invention, the open-cell foam plastic is compressed by pressure on the surface of the surface (e.g. by the foot of a player) and thereby the surface of the surface is moistened again, so that the desired The sliding effect is restored by a water film (pump and play system). This process is repeated until the storage layer can no longer fill the open-cell foam plastic with capillary water.

Experiments on a sports surface covered with the floor covering according to the invention have shown in the summer months in a central European climate that the floor covering according to the invention remains playable for a whole day after being watered once, ie maintains the desired playing properties. Compared to conventional floor coverings, the floor covering according to the invention requires only a third to a quarter of the irrigation water that is otherwise required in order to bring about the same technical playing properties as with the known floor coverings.

In preferred embodiments of the floor covering according to the invention, the storage layer is formed by a nonwoven fabric, which can adhesively store several times its own weight in water. Nonwoven fabrics made of a non-rotting material are preferred, which of course also applies to all elements of the floor covering according to the invention.

As with known floor coverings, in preferred embodiments of the floor covering according to the invention, the pole elements have anchoring feet arranged on the underside of the carrier web, it being particularly advantageous if these lie between the carrier web and the foam plastic layer; In this way, the foam plastic layer, in particular laminated to the back of the carrier web, serves to improve the fixation of the pole elements in the carrier web, and the anchoring feet of the pole elements are covered by the foam plastic layer and the storage layer, so that they do not become the same when laying the floor covering on a rough surface Are at risk of being chafed as a result of the floor covering being used.

In particular, butadiene styrene is recommended as the plastic for the foam pumping layer which brings about the return pump effect; In order to obtain a floor covering that is simple and completely recyclable, in other preferred embodiments of the floor covering according to the invention, however, the carrier web, pole elements, foam plastic layer and storage layer are made of the same plastic.

As already mentioned, it is advisable to laminate the open-cell foam plastic layer and the storage layer to the back of the carrier web, which, however, must be ensured by the type of lamination, in particular by an appropriately chosen pattern of a connecting layer, that that accumulating on the surface of the covering Water can pass through the carrier web, the foam plastic layer and the storage layer.

Further features, advantages and details of the invention result from the attached schematic drawing and the following description of a particularly preferred embodiment of a floor covering according to the invention; the drawing shows a section through the floor covering designed as tufted goods.

The drawing shows a carrier web 10, which is a basic tufting product, in particular a fabric made of plastic tapes. In this pole elements 12 are anchored, which were introduced into the carrier web 10 by tufts and are formed by plastic tapes. In side view, they are approximately U-shaped and each form an anchoring foot 12a on the underside of the carrier web.

A foam plastic layer 14 is laminated to the underside of the tufted goods 10, 12, which consists of an open-cell foam plastic and is, according to the invention, elastic in thickness. Finally, a nonwoven layer 16 is laminated to the underside of the foam plastic layer 14, which layer forms the water storage layer according to the invention. The desired storage capacity can be achieved and set by the thickness, density, structure and type of fiber material of the nonwoven layer 16.

The pores of the foam plastic layer 14 enable water to be transported by gravity through the foam plastic layer 14 into the fiber fleece layer 16 and as a result of the capillary action or the pumping action that occurs when the floor covering is covered, from the fiber fleece layer 16 back into the actual artificial turf layer 10, 12 and in particular through it water-permeable carrier web 10 through to the surface of the artificial turf layer. The water permeability of the carrier web 10 is also to be noted that this can be ensured and adjusted in a variety of ways, for. B. by relatively thick needles when tufting, by the type and density of the textile material used for the production of the carrier web 10, for. B. thus by the width of the plastic ribbons used for the production of a fabric and the distances between the warp and weft threads formed by the ribbons from each other and by the type of equipment used for the carrier web material; however, these are known measures, so that a detailed explanation of them is not required.
