Definitions

  • the invention relates to a safety closure for containers, in particular for bottles containing fruit juices, for releasing excess pressure, e.g. arises from a fermentation process in the bottle.
  • a safety closure in which a weakening groove is provided in the end wall of the closure cap, on which the end wall tears when the bottle is overpressured, so that an explosive cracking of the bottle is avoided.
  • the weakening groove is located on the outside of the front wall. This has the consequence that it is visible from the outside and interrupts or disturbs a print that is contained on the closure cap. It should be taken into account that when the closure cap is manufactured, the printing is carried out first and that the weakening groove is normally produced subsequently and the printing is partially destroyed.
  • a visible sign of the beginning fermentation process is that the end wall of the closure cap bulges outwards at a pressure which is below the trigger pressure.
  • the seal stands out from the container wall and allows excess pressure to escape between the seal and the container wall / bottle thread, unless this path is blocked, for example, by pulp.
  • a safety closure for containers which comprises a plastic or the like. has existing closure cap which engages with a thread in a container thread and is provided on the inside of its end wall with a circumferential weakening groove. A sealing material is arranged in the sealing cap. The weakening groove is said to promote the bulging of the cap end wall in the event of overpressure.
  • a safety seal from which the preamble of claim 1 is based, is known from DE-A-31 01 751.
  • This safety seal is intended, in the case of an overpressure which arises in the case of carbonated beverages from great external heating or strong vibration, from a weakening groove limited lid, which is connected to the edge of the closure cap by a bridge.
  • the weakening groove is provided on the outside of the end cap wall. Another weakening groove runs through the sealing material, which is located on the inside of the end wall.
  • US-A-3 713 545 describes a closure cap in which an I-shaped line of weakness extends on the inside of the end wall.
  • the end wall bulges out in a dome shape, with the tears open rectilinear weakening groove extending above the apex and the sealing material underneath penetrates out of the gap. This removes sealing material from the sealing area between the cap and the bottle neck, so that excess pressure can escape along the bottle thread.
  • the weakening groove running on the inside serves the purpose of making it easier for the sealing material to emerge from the open gap.
  • the invention is based on the object of specifying an improved security lock which enables an additional triggering in order to further reduce the remaining risks.
  • the weakening groove is attached to the inside of the end wall.
  • the safety closure according to the invention is particularly suitable for bottles containing fruit juice beverages.
  • Fruit drinks are usually bottled at an elevated temperature of around 80-90 ° C.
  • the caps made of aluminum are applied, the jacket of which is rolled into the container thread, which causes the cap thread arises.
  • the volume of the liquid decreases and a free space and a vacuum are created in the bottle.
  • the end wall of the cap is drawn into the inside of the bottle, causing the end wall to deform slightly.
  • a fermentation process caused by the action of bacteria can take place.
  • an overpressure can build up in the bottle, which may cause the bottle material to burst.
  • the end wall of the cap bulges outwards.
  • the release pressure at which the cap material tears at the weakening groove is around 3-4 bar. If the end wall is torn along the weakening groove, the sealing material is no longer able to withstand the pressure. It tears in some places and allows pressure relief to the outside.
  • the weakening groove is provided on the inside, it is covered by the sealing material.
  • the open unpainted weakening groove is thus protected from corrosion by the sealing material, in particular against attacks by the liquid contained in the bottle (fruit acid).
  • the line of weakness provided on the inside of the cap inevitably forms a convex deformation of the round plate delimited by the line of weakness toward the interior of the container.
  • the security closure according to the invention no bulge caused by the weakening groove, but a bulging inwards.
  • the inward indentation changes into an outward bulge, as a result of which the fermentation process is visibly displayed to the outside. If the pressure is increased further, the cap breaks along the weakening groove.
  • the change from an inwardly curved cap surface to an outwardly bulged cap surface can basically be observed in all bottles whose contents have passed into fermentation.
  • the weakening groove can completely enclose the central region of the end wall of the closure cap.
  • a weakening groove that does not form a closed circle and leaves a bridge that connects the round blank to the edge region of the cap.
  • Such a bridge can act as a hinge in order to hold the circular blank on the cap when triggered.
  • Two such bridges can be provided, offset by 180 ° to one another and opposite one another. In this case, the round plate between the bridges forms two wings that fold up when triggered.
  • FIG. 1 shows a container in the form of a bottle 10, the bottle neck having a container thread 11.
  • the cap thread 15 is rolled, which nestles against the container thread 11.
  • the peripheral jacket 13 tears along the weakening line 18, so that the securing ring 16 remains on the bottle neck or, depending on the embodiment, tears open with notches and remains on the upper peripheral jacket 13.
  • a sealing material 20 is applied to the end wall 14 inside the closure cap 12.
  • This sealing material 20 made of elastic plastic presses against the upper end 21 of the bottle neck and causes a seal here.
  • a V-shaped weakening groove 22 (FIG. 2) is provided, which forms a closed circle and encloses a round blank.
  • the weakening groove 22 is created before the sealing material 20 is introduced into the closure cap.
  • the originally flat or slightly convex end wall 14 deforms in the manner shown in FIG. 1. Since the weakening groove 22 is provided on the inside of the end wall 14, it is not loaded in the tear direction by the negative pressure. The weakening groove 22 is located approximately above the inner edge of the bottle opening. The curvature of the end wall 14 acts in the direction that the weakening groove 22 closes a little. The weakening groove therefore favors the arching of the end wall 14, as a result of which the sealing material 20 comes even closer to the upper end 21 of the bottle neck and clings tightly to the bottle opening.
  • the overpressure escapes along the arrows drawn between the upper end 21 of the bottle neck and the sealing material 20 lifting away therefrom. If the overpressure is even greater or if overpressure suddenly occurs, the end wall tears along the weakening groove 22. The excess pressure is then discharged through the sealing material 20, which is also torn open.
  • the safety closure of the first embodiment serves to close bottles which contain fruit drinks or must and which are normally under no or only a slight internal pressure.
  • a vacuum is created in the headspace of the bottle by heating in order to make the contents of the bottle durable.
  • the upper shoulder 23 of the closure cap 12 is not pressed against the outside of the upper end of the bottle neck, so that there is a cavity 24 under this shoulder 23 is not filled with the sealing material 20.
  • the closure cap 12a of the second exemplary embodiment serves to close a bottle which contains carbonated drinks, for example lemonade or water.
  • carbonated drinks for example lemonade or water.
  • there is normally no negative pressure inside the bottle because there is no sterilization after filling.
  • the internal pressure can be up to rise to about 6 bar.
  • the closure must seal securely up to this pressure in order to avoid a taste impairment due to CO 2 losses.
  • the higher sealing is achieved by two measures, one in that the weakening groove 22 is offset inwards so that the blank enclosed by the line of weakness has a smaller diameter, and the other in that the shoulder 23 on which the side wall in the end wall merges, is pressed in laterally, the sealing material 20 being pressed under the shoulder 23 tightly against the side wall of the bottle neck.
  • the constriction in the area of the shoulder 23 is also referred to as the "depth of draw”. This drawing depth is up to a maximum of 2.6 mm.
  • the sealing material also seals on the outside of the bottle neck.
  • a corrugated bead 25 is provided underneath the annular shoulder 23, which facilitates gripping by hand.
  • the round blank enclosed by the weakening groove 22 has a diameter of 20 mm in the first embodiment, but only 15 mm in the second embodiment.
