Abstract

A dryer screen has a paper side and a machine side. A plurality of machine direction threads extend in the direction of movement of the screen. The machine direction threads are arrayed in first and second groups. The threads of the groups are bound to the screen through different binding pattern repeats. A plurality of cross threads extend generally transverse to the machine direction threads. The threads of the first group are arrayed in first and second subgroups offset with respect to the direction of movement of the screen. Each subgroup comprises at least two abutting contiguous machine direction threads having a binding pattern repeat floating on the paper side over a predetermined plurality of cross threads.

Description

The invention relates to a dryer fabric with longitudinal threads extending in the machine direction and transverse threads made of plastic material extending transversely thereto, a first group of longitudinal threads floating on the paper side over a plurality of transverse threads and a second group of longitudinal threads being present which binds differently from the first group of longitudinal threads .

Dryer fabrics are fabrics made of plastic threads with longitudinal threads extending in the machine direction and transverse threads extending transversely thereto. They are used in the drying area of a paper machine, where they guide the paper web over the hot drying cylinders. It is essential that the dryer fabrics ensure good heat transfer and condensation is prevented. It is therefore endeavored to make dryer fabrics as thin as possible and to provide large contact areas.

A large number of fabric constructions are known for dryer fabrics. By way of example only, reference is made to PCT application WO 91 / 190-44 and the prior art specified therein. This publication discloses paper machine fabrics in which a first group of longitudinal threads floats on the paper side over a plurality of transverse threads, the longitudinal threads being designed as flat monofilaments. This group of longitudinal threads runs above a second group of longitudinal threads, which are also called flat monofilaments can be trained.

The known dryer fabric has a good contact area due to the use of very wide flat monofilaments, especially for the longitudinal threads of the first group. However, these threads affect the flexibility of the dryer fabric. In addition, the very wide flat monofilaments are special threads that are not easy to process and are expensive.

The invention has for its object to provide a dryer fabric of the type mentioned in such a way that good flexibility is achieved despite the large contact area on the paper side.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that at least two adjacent longitudinal threads of the first group form subgroups of longitudinal threads running at least on the paper side and the longitudinal threads of a subgroup abut each other side by side. The longitudinal threads of a subgroup should preferably also run in the same way in the rest. In this context, the term is to be understood to mean a course in which the respective longitudinal threads bind identically into the fabric next to one another.

According to the invention, the two contact surfaces are thus produced with the aid of a plurality of longitudinal threads, which are combined to form sub-groups with the same course. Normal longitudinal threads, which are preferably designed as flat monofilaments with a cross-sectional ratio of 1.2: 1 to 3: 1, can be used for this purpose. Since the longitudinal threads are movable despite their grouping into subgroups and their mutual contact with one another, the flexibility of the dryer fabric is not impaired by this.

In an embodiment of the invention, as seen from the paper side, a longitudinal thread of the second group runs below two adjacent longitudinal threads of a subgroup. It is particularly preferred that no longitudinal threads of the second group run between two subgroups of longitudinal threads of the first group. If each subgroup consists of only two longitudinal threads, only two longitudinal threads of the first group have one longitudinal thread of the second group. On the one hand, this results in a concentration of the longitudinal threads on the paper side in order to achieve a large contact area; on the other hand, the dryer fabric on the machine side is comparatively open, so that good steam passage is achieved.

In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the longitudinal threads of the second group bind only on the paper side with such transverse threads via which the longitudinal threads of a subgroup float which run above this longitudinal thread of the second group. In this way, a crossing of the longitudinal threads of the first and the second group is avoided. The corresponding is expediently also provided on the lower or machine side of the dryer fabric, in that the longitudinal threads of the second group float on the machine side via those transverse threads which tie in on the machine side with the longitudinal threads of a subgroup which run above the relevant longitudinal thread of the second group.

The longitudinal threads of the first group should float on the paper side each over at least three transverse threads before they tie again. However, the floatation can also take up to nine transverse threads. On the machine side, the longitudinal threads of the first group should only be tied in with one cross thread. The same is also provided for the longitudinal threads of the second group, with a mirror image of the longitudinal threads of the first group then being offered.

According to a further feature of the invention, it is provided that the transverse threads are designed as open hollow monofilaments, as are known, for example, from US Pat. No. 4,251,588. It is possible to design all or only part of the transverse threads as open hollow monofilaments. In the latter case, the other part of the transverse threads should be designed as solid monofilaments, in which case the hollow monofilaments should alternate with the solid monofilaments, preferably always a hollow monofilament with a solid monofilament. The hollow monofilaments can then be flattened using a calendering process in order to achieve the thinnest possible dryer fabric.

In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that cross threads of larger diameter alternate with cross threads which have a smaller diameter than that, preferably in such a way that a cross thread with a larger diameter always alternates with a cross thread of smaller diameter.

The longitudinal threads of a subgroup are expediently offset in relation to adjacent longitudinal threads of a subgroup in the machine running direction with regard to their integration. In addition, the longitudinal threads of the first group should have identical cross-sectional shape and area.

Although multi-layer designs are also possible for the dryer fabric, the aim is to form a single-layer dryer fabric in order to keep the thickness of the dryer fabric as small as possible.

The dryer fabric according to the invention can be produced in a simple manner by using such shrinkable transverse threads for the weaving process and the dryer fabric after The weaving process is heat-treated in such a way that the longitudinal threads of a sub-group, which run in the same direction, lie side by side. It is known that plastic threads such as polyester threads or the like are subject to shrinkage when exposed to heat. The shrinkability is used specifically to lay the longitudinal threads of one subgroup together and also the longitudinal threads of two neighboring subgroups, which creates large-area and practically uninterrupted contact areas.

The dryer fabric (1) shown in Figure (1) is designed as a single-layer fabric and has a machine running direction in the directions of arrow A. Round transverse threads run at right angles to this machine running direction A, for example designated (2). They are designed as hollow monofilaments, that is to say they have cavities in the untreated state - designated by (3) for example. The transverse threads (2) consist of a plastic material that is highly shrinkable when heat is applied, for example polyester.

With the transverse threads (2) tie longitudinal threads in machine direction A, which are formed as flat monofilaments with a rectangular cross-section. A first group of longitudinal threads - for example designated (4, 5, 6, 7) - floats in each case Via three transverse threads on the paper side, before the longitudinal threads (4, 5, 6, 7) tie in with a transverse thread (2) on the underside on the machine side. Two longitudinal threads (4, 5) and (6, 7) lying next to each other run in the same direction, so they have an identical and always parallel path. Two longitudinal threads (4, 5) and (6, 7) each form subgroups in the first group of longitudinal threads (4, 5, 6, 7), the subgroups running next to each other, but in the machine direction A each by two transverse threads (2nd ) are offset.

Between two longitudinal threads (4, 5) and (6, 7) forming a subgroup, respectively, another longitudinal thread (8, 9) runs, which together form a second group of longitudinal threads. You have a mirror image of the longitudinal threads (4, 5) or (6, 7) of the first group, d. H. they bind each with only one transverse thread (2) on the paper side and then float on the machine side via three transverse threads (2). The longitudinal threads (8, 9) of the second group bind on the paper side only with transverse threads (2) via which the longitudinal threads (4, 5) or (6, 7) of the associated subgroup float. Two longitudinal threads (8, 9) of the second group running alongside one another are also offset by two transverse threads (2) in machine direction A with regard to their integration.

Figure (1) shows the dryer fabric (1) in the state after the weaving process. The longitudinal threads (4, 5) or (6, 7) of a subgroup are then at a distance from one another which is somewhat larger than the width of the longitudinal threads (8, 9) of the second group. The drying fabric (1) thus produced is then subjected to a heat treatment at temperatures at which the transverse threads (2) shrink considerably. This has the consequence that the longitudinal threads (4, 5) and (6, 7) come to rest against each other, whereby they are on the paper side over the longitudinal threads (8, 9) of the second group and on the machine side between the respective transverse threads (2) and the longitudinal thread (8, 9) push. The adjacent longitudinal threads (5, 6) of the two subgroups then also come into contact. This creates the fabric image according to Figure (2), which is characterized by large contact areas on the paper side.

The dryer fabric (1) is then subjected to a calendering treatment, as a result of which the transverse threads (2) are flattened in such a way that the inside of the cavities (3) come into contact with one another, so that there are no more cavities (3). This creates a very thin dryer fabric (1) with favorable heat transfer properties.
