Definitions

  • the invention is based on a method for erecting a folding box and folding its closure flaps according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the closure flaps which initially protrude from the side walls of the folding box in the same plane, are bent to expose an opening so that the opening of the folding box is as close as possible to a filling device can be introduced.
  • a method of this type which has become known from US Pat. No. 3,956,976, a folding box equipped with two side flaps and a top flap is removed from a stack magazine by means of a first conveying device and partially opened on a first sheet path, with one side flap being folded on a folding switch.
  • the folding box is then taken over by a second conveying device and transferred to a conveying device of a cartoning machine on a second sheet path, the second side flap being folded on the same folding switch. Finally, after the folding box has been completely opened, the cover flap is bent by inserting it into the conveying device of the cartoning machine on an additional folding switch. Disadvantageous it is that with the known device only folding boxes with three tabs can be handled. Since the two side flaps are folded one after the other when conveying a folding box on separate sheet paths and the folding box is also transferred from one suction device of one conveyor to another, the output of the known device is low.
  • the geometry of the folding switches has to be adapted to the respective folding box format, ie for each folding box format several folding switches have to be provided and exchanged, so that long changeover times occur when changing the format.
  • US Pat. No. 3,509,681 a method for opening a folding box with four flaps is known, in which the four flaps on the fully erected folding box are folded, partly by means of stationary and partly by means of moving folding elements, on the straight conveying path of the folding box in a cartoning machine.
  • the disadvantage here is that the length of such machines performing the known method is long and that the drive and the control of moving folding elements are complex.
  • the method according to the invention for erecting a folding box and for folding its closure flaps with the characterizing features of claim 1 has the advantage that the folding of all the closure flaps occurs during the erection process of the folding box, whereby the device is particularly small. Since the folding tabs on stationary folding elements are folded when the folding box is moved and erected, there is no need to drive folding elements. In addition, the folding of the closure flaps takes place continuously during the entire period from the removal of the folding box to its delivery to a conveyor of a cartoning machine, as a result of which the method has a high output.
  • the flaps of a folding box with four flaps are folded.
  • the proposed method can be used for different folding box designs.
  • a device with the features according to claim 4 for carrying out the method according to the invention has the advantage that when changing the format, only a single part containing the folding elements has to be exchanged, as a result of which the changeover time from one folding box format to another is minimized.
  • FIG. 1 shows a device for erecting a folding box with four flaps and edging, the closure flaps of which are simplified in side view
  • FIGS. 2 to 5 a device according to FIG 6 in cross section in the plane VI-VI of FIG. 2nd
  • each folding box 11 has two narrow 12 and two wide 13 side walls, from which closure tabs 14 to 17 protrude for closing an opening 19 of the erected folding box 11.
  • a folding box 11 is pulled down from the vertically arranged magazine 10, first conveyed to a reversal point B on a first curved, laterally protruding section a and then to a reversing point C on a second curved section b, the folding box 11 on the the first stretch a by 90 degrees into a vertical position, and on the second stretch b again brought into a horizontal position, in which the folding box 11 is turned to its original position by one hundred and eighty degrees.
  • the folding box 11 is erected on this path of movement and its closure tabs 14 to 17, which originally protrude from the side walls 12 and 13 and which open the filling opening 19, are bent at right angles to the outside.
  • the device has, for example, a transfer device 21 known from EP-A-0433667.
  • This transfer device has a three-armed rotor 23, which is rotatably mounted on a rotating crank 22 and has arms 25 on it the circumference evenly offset holder 26 are arranged. These holders 26 pass through a self-contained cycloidal cam track with the four reversal points A, B, C and D.
  • One reversal point A is the magazine 10 for the folding boxes 11 to be processed and the opposite reversal point C of the transfer point to the conveyor 20 of the cartoning machine assigned.
  • each arm 25 is assigned a pivotable press-on finger 27 which, on the transfer path from the reversal point A to the reversal point C, starts the folding box 11 in a controlled manner shortly before the deflection point B.
  • a folding device 30 is arranged in a stationary manner in its movement space along its transfer path.
  • the folding device 30 has a plate-shaped folding element 31 which extends in the plane of movement of the folding lines 32 of the closure flaps 14 to 17 of the folding box 11, and two further folding elements 33 and 34 which protrude obliquely from the plate-shaped folding element 31 into the movement space of the closure flaps 14 to 17 .
  • the plate-shaped folding element 31 covers part of the distance b. It has an upper parallel edge 36 to the folding boxes 11 in the magazine 10, an edge 37 perpendicular thereto close to the reversal point B and a lower edge 38 parallel to the upper edge 36.
  • the upper edge 36 extends approximately at the height of the reversal point B, so that the rear side plate 17 and the lower plate 15 always move above this edge 36 on their transfer path between the reversal points A and B.
  • the lower edge 38 extends below the conveying path of the folding boxes 11 in the conveying device 20.
  • the vertical edge 37 lies in the vicinity of the reversal point B, so that the lower link 15 is on its transfer path at the reversal point B outside the plate-shaped folding element 31.
  • a triangular folding element 33 in the form of a section from the plane of movement of the folding lines 32 of the folding boxes 11 is angled into the movement space of the closure flaps 14 to 17.
  • the triangular folding element 33 can also be designed in the form of stationary switches or the like in order to handle critical folding box formats.
  • Inclination angle x is such that the front side flap 16 on its transfer path between the reversal points A and B and the rear side flap 17 on its transfer path between the reversal points B and C run onto the triangular folding element 33 and are bent by it.
  • a preferably rod-shaped folding element 34 is also arranged perpendicular to the upper edge 36 on the plate-shaped folding element 31 and also projects into the movement space of the locking tabs 14 to 17. Its angle of inclination y is less than that of the triangular folding element 33.
  • a fastening bracket 40 attached to the plate-shaped folding element 31 serves to fasten the folding device 30 to the device. In the event of a format change, the complete folding device 30 can thus be exchanged in a simple manner for another folding device adapted to the changed folding box format.
  • the device described above works as follows: When a flat-lying folding box 11 is pulled out of the magazine 10 by means of the holder 26 of the rotor 23, the cover tab 14 and the rear side tab 17 as well as the front side tab 16 and the bottom tab 15 are each initially in two parallel planes. The folding box 11 is then conveyed on the route a and at the same time rotated by ninety degrees. Due to the arrangement of the folding elements 31, 33 and 34 and the kinematics of the transfer device 21, the closure flaps 14 to 17 are folded in the order of their arrangement in the direction of movement of the folding box 11 to the folding elements 31, 33 and 34.
  • the higher of the closing tabs 14 to 17 is always folded first.
  • the cover flap 14 runs against the rod-shaped first folding element 34 and is gradually bent by the latter by the movement of the folding box 11 to the folding element 34.
  • the front side tab 16 runs onto the triangular second folding element 33 and begins to fold at it.
  • the cover flap 14 slides from the rod-shaped folding element 34 onto the triangular folding element 33.
  • the cover flap 14 and the front side flap 16 slide from the triangular folding element 33 to the plate-shaped folding element 31 and are angled at right angles to their side walls 12 and 13.
  • the press-on finger 27 Shortly before reaching the first reversal point B, the press-on finger 27 begins to erect the folding box 11 by pressing on a narrow side wall 12.
  • the folding box 11 is partially erected and its lower link 15 is located outside the vertical edge 37.
  • the lower link 15 runs against the vertical edge 37 and is bent at right angles to it.
  • the rear side flap 17 finally runs up on the triangular folding element 33, begins to fold on it, and is bent at a right angle by the latter in the transition into the plate-shaped folding element 31. All four closure tabs 14 to 17 are now, opening the filling opening 19, bent at right angles and slide along the distance b on the plate-shaped folding element 31.
  • folding boxes with three closure flaps can be handled on the device by folding a cover flap and a first side flap on the first stretch a and a second side flap on the second stretch b.
