Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method and a device for opening folded printed products according to the preamble of claims 1 and 4, respectively.
  • the overhead first product part of the eccentrically folded printed products has an end section in the end region, which protrudes beyond the shorter, lower second product part. This edge section is gripped by a gripper of the opening unit and clamped between itself and the belt. The second part of the product below is then moved away from the first part of the product being held by the faster-running acceleration belt, thus opening the printed product.
  • the opened print product one runs between the lifted product parts saddle-shaped support of a processing device and after the release of the printed products by the transport clamps they fall astride the supports.
  • eccentrically folded printed products can be opened, which are transported with the trailing end region and the upper edge section. Reliable opening of the printed products is only possible if the paper has a low intrinsic stiffness and the underlying product part has a certain weight and, moreover, the product parts do not stick together, for example as a result of electrostatic charging.
  • a puncturing element is inserted into the printed product between the held first and second product parts.
  • the second part of the product is forcibly lifted off the first part of the product and when the piercing element and gripper are moved away from one another, the printed product is forcibly opened.
  • the gripper holding the first part of the product at the end edge precisely defines the position of the first part of the product in the end region, which enables precise piercing.
  • a particularly high processing speed with smooth running is achieved with a device according to claim 5.
  • the device according to the invention has a conveyor device 10 of generally known type with individually controllable transport clamps 14 arranged one behind the other on a conveyor chain 12 indicated by dash-dotted lines.
  • the conveyor chain 12 is in a C-shaped, open towards the bottom and in the horizontal direction extending channel 16 out.
  • an opening unit 28 Arranged below the conveyor device 10 is an opening unit 28 which is designed to open eccentrically folded printed products 20 with the first product part 22 trailing with respect to the second product part 24, the first product part 22 having an end section 29 at its end edge 29 in the end region 30 facing away from the fold 26 32, which protrudes beyond the second product part 24.
  • a shaft 36 is mounted, which is driven at right angles to the conveying direction F and runs horizontally, on which a support member 38 designed in the form of a star wheel sits in a rotationally fixed manner in the vertical direction below the conveying device 10.
  • the radially outer ends of the support arms 40 of the support member 38 are designed as fixed gripper jaws 42 of grippers 44.
  • the grippers 44 run on a circular orbit 48 at a rotational speed v1 which approximately corresponds to the conveying speed v or, if appropriate, to is about 30% larger.
  • the gripper tongues 46 can be moved, for example, via a link control depending on their rotational position into the open or closed position.
  • a star-shaped piercing wheel 50 which can be freely rotated, the arms 52 of which protrude in the radial direction toward the outside in the circumferential direction U as viewed in the circumferential direction U and are designed as piercing elements 54 in their end region.
  • the piercing edges 54 'of the piercing elements 54 run on a path of the same diameter offset in the axial direction from the orbit 48 of the gripper jaws 42 of the grippers 44.
  • the piercing wheel 50 has three piercing elements 54 and is driven at twice the speed of the support member 38, which carries six grippers 44.
  • a support element 56 is further provided, which in the present case is formed by two curved support plates 58 which are fastened to the frame 34 on both sides of the support member 38 and at a distance from this and the piercing wheel 50.
  • the support plates 58 have the same curvature as the orbit 48 of the grippers 44 and are arranged in alignment with the latter in the axial direction.
  • the support plates extend approximately from the height of the shaft 36 over an angle of approximately 80 ° upwards on the side of the opening unit 28 facing the incoming printed products 20.
  • the vertical distance between the opening unit 28 and the conveying device 10 is set such that the in a vertical hanging position, printed products 20 transported with their end region 30 onto the Support plates 58 run up and come to rest against them, the end regions 30 being bent towards the rear, as seen in the conveying direction F, and thereby experiencing a delay.
  • the shaft 36 and the piercing wheel 50 are connected via chain drives 60, 60 'to a drive shaft 62 which is further connected in a rotationally fixed manner via bevel gear drives 64 to two output shafts 66 running parallel to one another and approximately symmetrically laterally offset with respect to the support member 38.
  • support arms 67 protrude, each of which has a spiral or screw-like hold-open element 68 attached to it.
  • the longitudinal axes 68 'of these hold-open elements 68 are aligned with the axes of the output shafts 66 mounted on the frame 34 and are arranged in vertical planes which run parallel to the conveying direction F.
  • the longitudinal axes 68 ' are arranged to rise slightly.
  • the ends facing the support member 38, the hold-open elements 68 downstream of the support member 38 as seen in the conveying direction F, run around in a plane which roughly affects the orbit 38 of the grippers 44.
  • the slope of the turns of the hold-open elements 68 is adapted to the respective conditions and preferably increases from the rear end 68a to the front end 68b.
  • the support arms 67 can be slidably attached to the drive shafts 66. This enables the hold-open elements 68 to be displaced in the direction of their longitudinal axis 68 ′ and thus to be adapted to the respective conditions.
  • a processing drum 70 driven in the circumferential direction V is provided, as is known, for example, from EP-A-0 341 425 or the corresponding US-A-5,052,667. It has saddle-shaped supports 72 running in the axial direction and thus approximately at right angles to the conveying direction F in order to accommodate the printed products 20 opened by means of the opening unit 28 and kept open by the hold-open elements 68.
  • the distance B of the supports 72 essentially corresponds to the distance A of the transport clips 14 and preferably also the slope of a turn of the hold-open elements 68 at its front end 68b.
  • the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 works as follows:
  • the printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position run with their end region 30 onto the support plates 58 and are thereby supported in the end region 30 by bending against the transport direction F.
  • the conveying speed v remains the same, the speed of the end edge 29 of the printing product 20 in question decreases.
  • An open gripper 44 catches up with the printing product 20 resting on the support plates 58 and, when the gripper tongue 46 is transferred to the closed position, before the end of the support plates 58 has been reached, the printed product 30 is captured and held at the end section 32.
  • a puncture element 54 now sticks between the first and second product parts 22, 24 from below the held end section 32 and forcibly lifts or peels the second product part 24 from the held first product part 22, since the piercing element 54 with respect to the gripper 44 is approximately twice the rotational speed v1 moves and thus away from the gripper 44 seen in the direction of rotation U.
  • the end of the two hold-open elements 68 facing the support member 38 now engages from below between the two product parts 22, 24 which are lifted from each other, after which the gripper 44 is opened.
  • the part of the opening elements 68 which respectively engages in the printed product 20 runs along with the printed product 20 in the conveying direction F, keeps the printed product 20 open and opens it even further, since, due to the inclined position, the keeping open elements 68 approach the conveyor 10.
  • a support 72 engages between a turn of the hold-open elements 68 and likewise moves synchronously with the conveying device 10 in the conveying direction F, as a result of which the respective support 72 comes to rest between the product parts 22, 24 lifted off from each other before the hold-open elements 68 release the product parts 22, 24.
  • the print product 20, which overlaps one edition 72 in each case is then released by opening the relevant transport clamp 14 and falls astride the relevant edition 72 for further processing.
  • the basic structure of the device does not differ from the embodiments shown in the other figures. Only the training of the Support member 38, the gripper 44, the arrangement and suspension of the puncturing elements 54 and the support element 56 is partly different.
  • a wheel-like support member 38 is likewise mounted on the shaft 36 (see FIGS. 1 and 2) in a rotationally fixed manner.
  • it is larger in diameter compared to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2 and accordingly has a larger number of support arms 40 projecting in the radial direction, the distance C of the outer ends of the support arms 40 roughly corresponding to the distance A of the transport clips 14 or is smaller.
  • the ends of the support arms 40 are also designed as gripper jaws 42 of the grippers 44.
  • gripper tongues 46 which are each arranged at one end of a U- or V-shaped curved control lever 74, which, at the other end, is pivotally mounted on the support arm 40 that follows the relevant gripper 44, as seen in the direction of rotation U.
  • the control levers 74 In the end area facing the gripper tongue 46, the control levers 74 have a stop surface 76 which is coaxial with their pivot axis 74 ′ parallel to the shaft 36 and which is gripped by the gripper jaw 42. The end edge 29 of the first product part 22 comes to rest against this stop surface 76.
  • the grippers 44 as seen in the direction of rotation U, are directed towards the front, around those supported by the support plates 58 of the support element 56 in their end region 30 and bent towards the rear in the conveying direction F.

  • a free space 78 which is open to the outside as seen in the radial direction and extends from the orbit 48 of the grippers 44 to the control levers 74 which are bent inward as viewed in the radial direction.
  • the second product part 24 can escape into this free space 78 when the printed products 20 are opened.
  • the grippers 44 are controlled by means of a link control 80.
  • the control levers 74 have a freely rotatable control roller 82 in the region of their bend, which cooperates with a stationary opening link 84.
  • the control levers 74 are biased in the counterclockwise direction in FIG. 3 in the direction of the closed position of the grippers 44, and by means of the opening link 84 the gripper tongues 64 are transferred from the closed position into the open position against this bias.
  • a two-armed angle lever 86 is freely rotatably mounted on the support member and is prestressed clockwise into a rest position by means of a spring (cf. FIG. 5).
  • the lever arm 88 which extends approximately in the radial direction, is bent forward in its outer end region in the circumferential direction U and serves as a piercing element 54 with a piercing edge 54 '.
  • the angle lever 86 is in the rest position, the piercing edge 54 'is seen in the circumferential direction U, in the region of the gripper jaw 42, and in the radial direction is just as far or slightly less from the axis of the shaft 36 (FIGS.
  • the opening assembly 28 functions as follows: The printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position, with the first product part 22 trailing in the direction of conveyance F at the conveying direction F with respect to the shorter second product part 24, come to rest with the end plates 30 on the support plates 58, whereby the end region 30 is bent towards the rear and in this region the first product part 22 is now on top (see FIG. 3, the second printed product 20 from the right). By lifting the end region 30 of the printing product 20 in question, the speed of this end region 30 is temporarily reduced, whereby an open gripper 44 now catches up with this printing product 20, the end edge 29 of the first product part 22 coming into contact with the stop surface 76 (second gripper 44 from right).
  • the gripper 44 is now closed for gripping the end section 32 by moving the gripper tongue 46 into the closed position, by the distance of the opening link 84 from the axis of the Wave 36 ( Figures 1 and 2) decreases. Finally, the control roller 82 runs from the opening link 84 before the gripper 44 has reached the end of the support plate 58. It should also be mentioned that bending the printed products 20 backwards increases the exposed area of the end section 32, which increases the reliability that the second product part 24 is not also gripped by the grippers 44.
  • the follower roller 90 of the associated angle lever 86 runs onto the piercing link 92, whereby the lever arm 88 with the piercing element 54 is pivoted forward about its bearing axis 94 in the direction of rotation U.

  • the end of the opening elements 68 on this side now comes into engagement in order to fully open and keep the printed products 20 during further transport to the processing drum 70.
  • the gripper 44 is then opened again by the control rollers 82 running onto the opening link 84 again.
  • the path of movement of the piercing edge 54 ′ has the same distance from the shaft 36 as the gripper jaw 42 during the piercing.
  • the support member 38 with the parts arranged thereon such as grippers 44, control levers 74, angle levers 86 with piercing elements 54 is of exactly the same design as in the case of 3. Only this structural unit is now arranged on the shaft 36 (FIGS. 1 and 2) rotated about a diametrical axis by 180 °, so that the grippers 44 are now directed towards the rear, as seen in the direction of rotation U. The structure of this unit is therefore no longer explained. Only the shape of the opening link 84 and the piercing link 92 is different, which is referred to in the functional description. It should also be mentioned that the distance A between the transport clamp 14 is the same as, but preferably somewhat larger than the distance C between the grippers 44.
  • the support element 56 connected upstream of the opening assembly 28 has a plurality of support tapes 96 which are guided around deflection rollers 98. Of these, only those are shown which are arranged and driven in the end region of the support element 56 facing the opening unit 28.
  • the vertical distance of the supportive upper run 96 'of the support tapes 96 to the conveyor 10 decreases in the conveying direction F, so that the printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position come to rest with their free end on the supportive run 96', and the printed products 20 in theirs End region 30 is increasingly bent towards the front, as seen in the conveying direction F, since the support bands 96 'are driven in such a way that the upper strands 96', which act as supports, move in the conveying direction F approximately at twice the conveying speed v.
  • the printed products 20 are made with the first product part leading in relation to the second, shorter product part 24 22 promoted, so that by bending the end region 30 forward, the first product part 22 with the projecting end section 32 is now overhead with respect to the second product part 24. By bending the printed products 20, the end section 32 is again enlarged here.

  • the mode of operation of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 is as follows. As soon as the gripper tongue 46 of an opened gripper 44 reaches a position lying above the support tapes 96 when rotating in the direction of rotation U, a printed product 20 runs with its end section 32 into the gripper mouth and comes with its end edge 29 to the abutment surface 76; this is because the rotational speed v2 of the grippers 44 is lower than the conveying speed v of the conveying device 10 and, moreover, the support bands 96 are arranged to rise, as a result of which the end region 30 is moved forwards in the conveying direction F with respect to the corresponding transport clamp 14.
  • the grippers 44 are closed in the end region of the support-active strand 96 ′, in that the distance between the opening link 84 and the axis of the shaft 36 decreases and the latter finally releases the control roller 82.
  • the piercing elements 54 are then pivoted into the rest position.
  • the follower roller 90 of the relevant angle lever 86 now runs onto the piercing link 92, whereby the piercing elements 54 are pivoted clockwise, whereby their speed with respect to the rotational speed v2 of the grippers 44 is reduced.

Since the peripheral speed v3 of the piercing wheel 50 is lower than the circumferential speed v2 of the grippers 44, the piercing element 54 in question now moves away from the gripper 44 towards the rear, whereby the second product part 24 is lifted off from the first product part 22. As already described further above, the ends of the hold-open elements 68 on this side now engage between the product parts 22, 24 which are lifted from one another, after which the gripper 44 is opened and releases the first product part 22.
  • FIG. 7 In the further form of training shown in FIG. 7 are the grippers 44 of the same design and control, as shown in the training forms according to Figures 4 to 6.

Abstract

Folded printed products (20) are held at their fold in a suspended position and are transported supported in their end region (30) remote from the fold. The end section (32) of the first product part (22) which projects relative to the second product part (24) is gripped by a gripper (44), driven in circulation, and held temporarily. An insertion element (54), which is driven at a different speed in relation to the gripper (44), is then inserted in the printed product (20) and, while the gripper (44) and the insertion element (54) are moving away from one another, lifts the second product part (24) from the held first product part (22). When the printed product (20) is open, the gripper (44) releases the first product part (22). <IMAGE>

Description

4.The present invention relates to a method and a device for opening folded printed products according to the preamble of claims 1 and 4, respectively.

From EP-A-0 095 603 and the corresponding US-A-4,489,930 it is known to hold eccentrically folded printed products with transport clamps when the fold runs transversely to the conveying direction and to convey them obliquely to the rear. Below this conveying device is an opening unit with an endless belt driven at the conveying speed of the conveying device, on which grippers are arranged at a distance from the transport clamps. The active run of the belt runs parallel to the conveying direction and a support element is connected upstream of the belt to support the printed products in their trailing end area opposite the fold. When viewed in the conveying direction, the belt is adjoined by a small acceleration belt, which rotates at a higher speed with respect to the conveying speed of the conveying device and the belt. The overhead first product part of the eccentrically folded printed products has an end section in the end region, which protrudes beyond the shorter, lower second product part. This edge section is gripped by a gripper of the opening unit and clamped between itself and the belt. The second part of the product below is then moved away from the first part of the product being held by the faster-running acceleration belt, thus opening the printed product. In the opened print product, one runs between the lifted product parts saddle-shaped support of a processing device and after the release of the printed products by the transport clamps they fall astride the supports. According to the known method and with the known device, eccentrically folded printed products can be opened, which are transported with the trailing end region and the upper edge section. Reliable opening of the printed products is only possible if the paper has a low intrinsic stiffness and the underlying product part has a certain weight and, moreover, the product parts do not stick together, for example as a result of electrostatic charging.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to develop the generic method in such a way and to create a corresponding device that an opening which is independent of the position and the nature of the printed products is reliably guaranteed.

4 aufweisen. This object is achieved by a method and an apparatus which have the features of claim 1 or. 4 have.

According to the invention, a puncturing element is inserted into the printed product between the held first and second product parts. As a result, the second part of the product is forcibly lifted off the first part of the product and when the piercing element and gripper are moved away from one another, the printed product is forcibly opened. The gripper holding the first part of the product at the end edge precisely defines the position of the first part of the product in the end region, which enables precise piercing. By the forced separation of the two product parts by means of the piercing element, the printing products can be processed at high speed.

A particularly high processing speed with smooth running is achieved with a device according to claim 5.

Further preferred embodiments of the method according to the invention and further preferred embodiments of the device according to the invention are specified in the further dependent claims.

The device according to the invention has a conveyor device 10 of generally known type with individually controllable transport clamps 14 arranged one behind the other on a conveyor chain 12 indicated by dash-dotted lines. The conveyor chain 12 is in a C-shaped, open towards the bottom and in the horizontal direction extending channel 16 out. The transport clamps 14, which are continuously driven in the conveying direction F at a conveying speed v, have a clamping jaw 18 directed downwards in the vertical direction, in each of which a folded printed product 20, for example a multi-page newspaper, magazine or part thereof, is at right angles to the conveying direction F. hold the running fold 26 connecting the first and second product parts 22, 24 to one another; see Figs. 1 and 2.

Arranged below the conveyor device 10 is an opening unit 28 which is designed to open eccentrically folded printed products 20 with the first product part 22 trailing with respect to the second product part 24, the first product part 22 having an end section 29 at its end edge 29 in the end region 30 facing away from the fold 26 32, which protrudes beyond the second product part 24.

On a frame 34 of the opening unit 28, a shaft 36 is mounted, which is driven at right angles to the conveying direction F and runs horizontally, on which a support member 38 designed in the form of a star wheel sits in a rotationally fixed manner in the vertical direction below the conveying device 10. The radially outer ends of the support arms 40 of the support member 38 are designed as fixed gripper jaws 42 of grippers 44. With the gripper jaws 42, roughly movable gripper tongues 46 work in the radial direction away from the gripper jaws 42 into an open position and in the opposite direction into a closed position. The grippers 44 run on a circular orbit 48 at a rotational speed v1 which approximately corresponds to the conveying speed v or, if appropriate, to is about 30% larger. The gripper tongues 46 can be moved, for example, via a link control depending on their rotational position into the open or closed position.

On the shaft 36 adjacent to the support member 38 is also a star-shaped piercing wheel 50 which can be freely rotated, the arms 52 of which protrude in the radial direction toward the outside in the circumferential direction U as viewed in the circumferential direction U and are designed as piercing elements 54 in their end region. The piercing edges 54 'of the piercing elements 54 run on a path of the same diameter offset in the axial direction from the orbit 48 of the gripper jaws 42 of the grippers 44. The piercing wheel 50 has three piercing elements 54 and is driven at twice the speed of the support member 38, which carries six grippers 44.

Below the conveying device 10, a support element 56 is further provided, which in the present case is formed by two curved support plates 58 which are fastened to the frame 34 on both sides of the support member 38 and at a distance from this and the piercing wheel 50. The support plates 58 have the same curvature as the orbit 48 of the grippers 44 and are arranged in alignment with the latter in the axial direction. The support plates extend approximately from the height of the shaft 36 over an angle of approximately 80 ° upwards on the side of the opening unit 28 facing the incoming printed products 20. The vertical distance between the opening unit 28 and the conveying device 10 is set such that the in a vertical hanging position, printed products 20 transported with their end region 30 onto the Support plates 58 run up and come to rest against them, the end regions 30 being bent towards the rear, as seen in the conveying direction F, and thereby experiencing a delay.

The shaft 36 and the piercing wheel 50 are connected via chain drives 60, 60 'to a drive shaft 62 which is further connected in a rotationally fixed manner via bevel gear drives 64 to two output shafts 66 running parallel to one another and approximately symmetrically laterally offset with respect to the support member 38. At the ends of the output shafts 66 remote from the bevel gear drives 64, support arms 67 protrude, each of which has a spiral or screw-like hold-open element 68 attached to it. The longitudinal axes 68 'of these hold-open elements 68 are aligned with the axes of the output shafts 66 mounted on the frame 34 and are arranged in vertical planes which run parallel to the conveying direction F. Seen in the direction of conveyance F, the longitudinal axes 68 'are arranged to rise slightly. The ends facing the support member 38, the hold-open elements 68 downstream of the support member 38 as seen in the conveying direction F, run around in a plane which roughly affects the orbit 38 of the grippers 44. The slope of the turns of the hold-open elements 68 is adapted to the respective conditions and preferably increases from the rear end 68a to the front end 68b.

To adjust the position of the hold-open elements 68 with respect to the drive shafts 66, the support arms 67 can be slidably attached to the drive shafts 66. This enables the hold-open elements 68 to be displaced in the direction of their longitudinal axis 68 ′ and thus to be adapted to the respective conditions.

Der Abstand B der Auflagen 72 entspricht dabei im wesentlichen dem Abstand A der Transportklammern 14 sowie vorzugsweise auch der Steigung einer Windung der Offenhalteelemente 68 an dessen vorderen Ende 68b.Seen in the conveying direction F, downstream of the opening unit 28 and likewise under the conveying device 10, a processing drum 70 driven in the circumferential direction V is provided, as is known, for example, from EP-A-0 341 425 or the corresponding US-A-5,052,667. It has saddle-shaped supports 72 running in the axial direction and thus approximately at right angles to the conveying direction F in order to accommodate the printed products 20 opened by means of the opening unit 28 and kept open by the hold-open elements 68. The distance B of the supports 72 essentially corresponds to the distance A of the transport clips 14 and preferably also the slope of a turn of the hold-open elements 68 at its front end 68b.

The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 works as follows: The printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position run with their end region 30 onto the support plates 58 and are thereby supported in the end region 30 by bending against the transport direction F. At the same time, while the conveying speed v remains the same, the speed of the end edge 29 of the printing product 20 in question decreases. An open gripper 44 catches up with the printing product 20 resting on the support plates 58 and, when the gripper tongue 46 is transferred to the closed position, before the end of the support plates 58 has been reached, the printed product 30 is captured and held at the end section 32. By bending the printed product 20 backwards, a larger area of the end section 32 is exposed, which further increases the certainty that the second product part is not gripped by the gripper 44, since the depth of the gripper mouth is made correspondingly small. A puncture element 54 now sticks between the first and second product parts 22, 24 from below the held end section 32 and forcibly lifts or peels the second product part 24 from the held first product part 22, since the piercing element 54 with respect to the gripper 44 is approximately twice the rotational speed v1 moves and thus away from the gripper 44 seen in the direction of rotation U. The end of the two hold-open elements 68 facing the support member 38 now engages from below between the two product parts 22, 24 which are lifted from each other, after which the gripper 44 is opened. Due to the synchronization of the opening assembly 28 with the conveying device 10, the part of the opening elements 68 which respectively engages in the printed product 20 runs along with the printed product 20 in the conveying direction F, keeps the printed product 20 open and opens it even further, since, due to the inclined position, the keeping open elements 68 approach the conveyor 10. In each case, a support 72 engages between a turn of the hold-open elements 68 and likewise moves synchronously with the conveying device 10 in the conveying direction F, as a result of which the respective support 72 comes to rest between the product parts 22, 24 lifted off from each other before the hold-open elements 68 release the product parts 22, 24. The print product 20, which overlaps one edition 72 in each case, is then released by opening the relevant transport clamp 14 and falls astride the relevant edition 72 for further processing.

The basic structure of the device, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and described further above, does not differ from the embodiments shown in the other figures. Only the training of the Support member 38, the gripper 44, the arrangement and suspension of the puncturing elements 54 and the support element 56 is partly different.

Therefore, only these different parts are mainly described below. For the rest, reference is expressly made to the description above and FIGS. 1 and 2.

Fig. 1 und 2) drehfest gelagert. In the opening unit 28 according to FIG. 3, a wheel-like support member 38 is likewise mounted on the shaft 36 (see FIGS. 1 and 2) in a rotationally fixed manner. However, it is larger in diameter compared to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2 and accordingly has a larger number of support arms 40 projecting in the radial direction, the distance C of the outer ends of the support arms 40 roughly corresponding to the distance A of the transport clips 14 or is smaller. The ends of the support arms 40 (tangential surfaces) are also designed as gripper jaws 42 of the grippers 44. These cooperate with gripper tongues 46, which are each arranged at one end of a U- or V-shaped curved control lever 74, which, at the other end, is pivotally mounted on the support arm 40 that follows the relevant gripper 44, as seen in the direction of rotation U. In the end area facing the gripper tongue 46, the control levers 74 have a stop surface 76 which is coaxial with their pivot axis 74 ′ parallel to the shaft 36 and which is gripped by the gripper jaw 42. The end edge 29 of the first product part 22 comes to rest against this stop surface 76. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the grippers 44, as seen in the direction of rotation U, are directed towards the front, around those supported by the support plates 58 of the support element 56 in their end region 30 and bent towards the rear in the conveying direction F. Printed products 20 to be gripped in the end section 32 of the overhead first product part 22 projecting from the second product part 24. Between adjacent support arms 40 there is a free space 78, which is open to the outside as seen in the radial direction and extends from the orbit 48 of the grippers 44 to the control levers 74 which are bent inward as viewed in the radial direction. The second product part 24 can escape into this free space 78 when the printed products 20 are opened.

The grippers 44 are controlled by means of a link control 80. For this purpose, the control levers 74 have a freely rotatable control roller 82 in the region of their bend, which cooperates with a stationary opening link 84. The control levers 74 are biased in the counterclockwise direction in FIG. 3 in the direction of the closed position of the grippers 44, and by means of the opening link 84 the gripper tongues 64 are transferred from the closed position into the open position against this bias.

Fig. 5) im Uhrzeigersinn in eine Ruhelage vorgespannt. In the area of the root 40 'of each support arm 40, a two-armed angle lever 86 is freely rotatably mounted on the support member and is prestressed clockwise into a rest position by means of a spring (cf. FIG. 5). The lever arm 88, which extends approximately in the radial direction, is bent forward in its outer end region in the circumferential direction U and serves as a piercing element 54 with a piercing edge 54 '. When the angle lever 86 is in the rest position, the piercing edge 54 'is seen in the circumferential direction U, in the region of the gripper jaw 42, and in the radial direction is just as far or slightly less from the axis of the shaft 36 (FIGS. 1 and 2) than the gripper jaw 42; cf. in FIG. 3 the two grippers 44 located in the area of the support plates 58. The other lever arm 88 ', which is approximately at right angles to the lever arm 88, carries, at its trailing end, a follower roller 90 which rotates freely and which interacts with an insertion link 92. This pivots the angle lever 86 counterclockwise, as a result of which the piercing element 54 is accelerated in the circumferential direction U with respect to the gripper 44 and moves away from the latter in order to open the printed product 20. With regard to the more precise design of the gripper tongues 46, control lever 74, link control 80, angle lever 86 with the associated opening link 84, reference is further made to FIG. 5 and the corresponding description below.

The opening assembly 28 according to FIG. 3 functions as follows: The printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position, with the first product part 22 trailing in the direction of conveyance F at the conveying direction F with respect to the shorter second product part 24, come to rest with the end plates 30 on the support plates 58, whereby the end region 30 is bent towards the rear and in this region the first product part 22 is now on top (see FIG. The gripper 44 is now closed for gripping the end section 32 by moving the gripper tongue 46 into the closed position, by the distance of the opening link 84 from the axis of the Wave 36 (Figures 1 and 2) decreases.

As soon as a gripper 44 leaves the area of the support plates 58, the follower roller 90 of the associated angle lever 86 runs onto the piercing link 92, whereby the lever arm 88 with the piercing element 54 is pivoted forward about its bearing axis 94 in the direction of rotation U. As a result, the piercing element 54 sticks between the two product parts 22, 24 from below and, when moving away from the gripper 44, lifts the second product part 24 against the first product part 22 held downwards, the free end region of the second product part 24 now lying in the free space 78 is coming. Between the product parts 22, 24 which are lifted from each other, the end of the opening elements 68 on this side now comes into engagement in order to fully open and keep the printed products 20 during further transport to the processing drum 70. After the opening elements 68 have engaged, the gripper 44 is then opened again by the control rollers 82 running onto the opening link 84 again. The path of movement of the piercing edge 54 ′ has the same distance from the shaft 36 as the gripper jaw 42 during the piercing.

In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the support member 38 with the parts arranged thereon such as grippers 44, control levers 74, angle levers 86 with piercing elements 54 is of exactly the same design as in the case of 3.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, the support element 56 connected upstream of the opening assembly 28 has a plurality of support tapes 96 which are guided around deflection rollers 98. Of these, only those are shown which are arranged and driven in the end region of the support element 56 facing the opening unit 28. The vertical distance of the supportive upper run 96 'of the support tapes 96 to the conveyor 10 decreases in the conveying direction F, so that the printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position come to rest with their free end on the supportive run 96', and the printed products 20 in theirs End region 30 is increasingly bent towards the front, as seen in the conveying direction F, since the support bands 96 'are driven in such a way that the upper strands 96', which act as supports, move in the conveying direction F approximately at twice the conveying speed v.

The printed products 20 are made with the first product part leading in relation to the second, shorter product part 24 22 promoted, so that by bending the end region 30 forward, the first product part 22 with the projecting end section 32 is now overhead with respect to the second product part 24. By bending the printed products 20, the end section 32 is again enlarged here.

As shown in FIG. 5, each control lever 74 is formed by a pair of levers, one of these levers being arranged on each side of the support member 38 and being firmly connected to one another via a bearing shaft 100 coaxial with the pivot axis 74 '. The bearing shaft 100 passes through the support arm 40 and between this and the levers a spiral spring 102 is arranged, which engages around the bearing shaft 100 and the two levers of the control lever 74 in the direction against the closed position of the gripper tongues 46. The gripper tongues 46 connect the two levers of the pair of control levers to one another at the end remote from the bearing shaft 100. The control roller 82 is mounted on one of the two levers of the pair of levers and interacts with the opening link 84, which is rotatably seated on the shaft 36, but is supported in a known manner in an adjustable manner so that it cannot rotate. For the sake of completeness, it should also be mentioned that the pairs of levers of the control levers 74 are bent in the region of their bend in order to be spaced further apart in their leg region facing the gripper tongue 46 and to encompass the levers of the control lever 74 mounted on the adjacent support arm 40 at a distance.

The support member 38 is penetrated in the region of the roots 40 'of the support arms 40 by a further bearing shaft 104, on each of which an angle lever 86 is non-rotatably seated. Between the angle lever 86 and the support member 38, the further bearing shaft 104 is of a further coil spring 102 ', which biases the angle lever 86 into its rest position, as has already been described in connection with FIG. 3 above. The lever arm 88 of the angle lever 86 is designed in its free end region as a piercing element 54 with a piercing edge 54 '. The other lever arm 88 'carries the follower roller 90 in a freely rotatable manner, which cooperates with the piercing link 92 which is also freely rotatable on the shaft 36 and which is also supported in a known manner on the frame 34 in a manner which prevents it from rotating and is adjustable. On the side of the support member 38 facing away from the angle lever 86, a lever arm 88 ″ corresponding to the lever arm 88 and parallel to the lever arm 88 ″ is likewise seated on the further bearing shaft 104 and is also formed in its free end region as a piercing element 54. A puncturing element 54 thus sticks on both sides of a gripper 44 between the first product part 22 held by the gripper 44 in question and the second product part 24.

The mode of operation of the embodiment shown in FIGS. The grippers 44 are closed in the end region of the support-active strand 96 ′, in that the distance between the opening link 84 and the axis of the shaft 36 decreases and the latter finally releases the control roller 82. The piercing elements 54 are then pivoted into the rest position. As soon as a gripper 44 is closed, the follower roller 90 of the relevant angle lever 86 now runs onto the piercing link 92, whereby the piercing elements 54 are pivoted clockwise, whereby their speed with respect to the rotational speed v2 of the grippers 44 is reduced. The piercing elements 54 pierce with the piercing edges 54 'between the two product parts 22, 24 and when the piercing elements 54 are removed from the gripper 44, the second product part 24 lying below is lifted off the first product part 22 held. The second product part 24 again comes into the free space 78. The end of the hold-open elements 68 on this side now comes into engagement between the product parts 22, 24 lifted from one another, after which the relevant gripper 44 is opened by the control roller 82 again running onto the opening link 84 . The hold-open elements 68 hold the printed products 20 open during further transport.

The embodiment of the opening assembly 28 shown in FIG. 6 corresponds to that according to FIGS. 4 and 5, but now the piercing elements 54 are not arranged on angle levers 86 mounted on the support member 38. In a similar manner to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a piercing wheel 50 is freely rotatably mounted on the shaft 36, on which the piercing elements 54 are arranged in the manner of the teeth of a saw blade. The number of piercing elements 54 is greater than the number of grippers 44 and the piercing wheel 50 correspondingly driven with a proportionally lower circulation speed v3 than the circulation speed v2 of the grippers 44.

Exactly the same as in the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, the printed products 20 are transported in the conveying direction F at the conveying speed v, the first product part 22 being ahead of the second product part 24. The end region 30 of the printed products 20 is supported by support tapes 96, and since the circulating speed of these support tapes 96 is greater than the conveying speed v, the printed products 20 are bent forward in the conveying direction F, so that the end section 32 leads and the first product part 22 lies overhead is. The first product part 22 runs into an open gripper 44 and comes to rest with its end edge 29 on the stop surface 76. As soon as the relevant closed gripper 44 has left the support-active area of the support tapes 96, a support element 56 pierces with its piercing edge 54 'from below the end section 32 between the held first product part 22 and the second product part 24 below.
In the further form of training shown in FIG. 7 are the grippers 44 of the same design and control, as shown in the training forms according to Figures 4 to 6. The piercing elements 54 are however now also arranged in the manner of a star-like piercing wheel on the radially outer ends of bearing arms 106 of a bearing element 108. The number of piercing elements 54 corresponds to the number of grippers 44, but the diameter of the circular movement path of the piercing elements 54 is smaller than the diameter of the circular orbit 48 of the grippers 44. According to this diameter ratio, the bearing element 108 is driven at a proportionally lower speed than that Support element 38 carrying gripper 44. The bearing element 108 is arranged eccentrically with respect to the axis of the shaft 36 on which the support element 38 is seated, the movement path of the insertion edges 54 ′ affecting the orbit 48 of the gripper 44 from the inside where the insertion elements 54 each pierce the printed products 20, ie in the upper region of the orbit 48, at the end of the support element 56.

On each bearing arm 106, a two-armed clamping lever 110 is rotatably mounted, the lever arm 112 of which, viewed in the direction of rotation U, forms a clamp 114 together with the piercing element 54 in order to temporarily clamp the second product part 24 after the piercing. The clamping lever 110 is prestressed in the direction of its clamping position and has a freely rotatably mounted control wheel 116 on its forward lever arm 112 ′, which cooperates with a control link 118 in order to open the clamp 114.

In exactly the same way as shown in FIGS. 4 to 6, the printed products 20 are conveyed with the first product part 22 leading in relation to the second product part 24 and supported in the end region 30 by means of support bands 96, so that the printed products 20 are seen in the conveying direction F against are bent at the front and the first product part 22 having the protruding end section 32 is again overhead. In the area where the printed products 20 are introduced with their end section 32 into the open grippers 44, the clamps 114 are opened by the action of the control link 118, as shown in FIG. 7 with the clamp 114 on the far right. The corresponding gripper 44 now grips the end section 32 and holds it in place. If the gripper 44 now moves out of the area of the support tapes 96, the piercing element 54 sticks between the product parts 22 and 24 due to its lower rotational speed v3 with respect to the rotational speed v2 of the grippers 44, after which the control wheel 116 runs off the stationary control link 118 and the clamp 114 closes. As a result, the second product part 24 is clamped and held between the piercing element 54 and clamping lever 110, which in turn results in the second product part 24 from the first as a result of the different speeds v2, v3 between the grippers 44 and the clamps 114 and the smaller diameter of the movement path of the clamps 114 Product part 22 is lifted off towards the bottom. Subsequently, the clamp 114 is opened again by means of the control link 118 (see clamp 114 on the left), after which the opening element 68 engages between the product parts 22, 24 in the manner described above in order to hold them in place
Keep transportation away from each other. Of course, the grippers 44 are also opened here as soon as the hold-open elements 68 engage between the product parts 22, 24.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 8, the construction of the support member 38, the gripper 44 and the angle lever 86 mounted on the support member 38 with the piercing elements 54 correspond to the embodiment shown in FIG. The only difference is that the gripper jaws 42 and gripper tongues 46 have openings 120 on the clamping-active sides, which can be connected to a vacuum source, not shown, via channels 122 in the support arms 40 and control levers 74. This form of training is suitable for opening centrally folded printed products 20 and two-fold printed products. The latter are first folded and then folded a second time at right angles to them and are transported by the transport clamps 114 in this second fold.

The printed products 20 transported in a vertical hanging position run with their free end region 20 onto the support plates 58, are supported and, viewed in the conveying direction F, are bent towards the rear. A gripper 44 picks up the printed product 20, which is then gripped and held by closing the gripper 44 at its end edge 29. The channels 122 are now connected to the vacuum source and after the gripper 44 has left the area of the support plates 58, the gripper tongue 46 is moved into the open position. However, since there is now negative pressure in the openings 120, the two product parts 22, 24 are held on the gripper tongue 46 or gripper jaw 42 and lifted apart. Now the Opening in the gripper jaw 42 is separated from the vacuum source, whereby the latter releases the second product part 24. At the same time, the angle lever 86 is pivoted in a counterclockwise direction, so that it sticks with its piercing element 54 between the product parts 22, 24 that have already been lifted slightly apart. The further movement of the piercing element 54 pushes the second product part 24 away from the gripper jaw 42 and the printed product 20 continues open. As soon as the hold-open element 68 has intervened between the two product parts 22, 24 which are lifted from one another, the opening 120 in the gripper tongue 46 is also separated from the vacuum source, as a result of which the first product part 22 held until then is also released. If two-fold printed products 20 are to be opened, the opening unit 28 is preferably arranged laterally offset with respect to the conveying device 10, so that it acts on the printed product 20 during the lateral folding. Of course, it is also conceivable to open printed products 20 with a leading end region 30. In this case, the support member 38 with the grippers 44 and the support elements 56 is again to be arranged on the shaft 36 (FIGS. 1, 2), rotated through a diametrical axis by 180 °.

In all of the forms of embodiment shown, the orbit 48 of the grippers 44 has a hold-active area in which the grippers 44 are closed in order to hold the first product part 22 or (in the embodiment according to FIG. 8) in which the grippers 44 are closed or, when open Gripper 44 the openings 120 in the gripper tongues 46 are connected to the vacuum source in order to hold the first product part 22. In all forms of training, too, a section of the self-contained movement path of the piercing elements runs 54 in the region of the orbit of the gripper 44 which is in the stop position, in order to pierce the printed products 20 in this area and to lift the second product part 24 from the first product part 22. The path of movement of the piercing elements 54 touches the orbit 48, as shown in the examples. However, it would also be conceivable to store the axes of rotation of the piercing elements 54 outside a straight line between the grippers 44 and the shaft 36 in the embodiments according to FIGS. 3 to 5 and 8, so that the piercing edge 54 'intersects the orbit 48 during the piercing.

It would also be conceivable to arrange the grippers 44 and piercing elements 54 on an endless traction element, so that the orbit of the grippers 44 is straight in some areas. The hold-open elements 68 can be hollow on the inside and can be connected to a positive or negative pressure source. The medium (preferably air) supplied via the hold-open elements 68 acts through outlet openings (holes, slots and the like) in the wall of the hold-open elements 68 on the product parts 22, 24 in order to either spread them further apart (in the case of excess pressure) or to suck them in (with negative pressure).
