Abstract

Intermediate or end products comprising a plurality of interstuffed and overlapping folded printed signatures or sheets are straddlingly fed or conveyed by a plurality of collating conveyors of a circulatingly driven collating cylinder or drum to a product transfer location or pick-up region. At the product pick-up region the intermediate or end products are picked-up or taken-over by a product withdrawal conveyor or device. The product withdrawal conveyor comprises holding or gripping mechanisms which are mounted in spaced relationship on a traction member. Claims (12)

1. Device for accepting and conveying away folded printed sheets (22) from a conveying device (8), on which the printed sheets rest astraddle with their folded edge (22') pointing in the conveying direction (B), having a lifting device (31) engaging between the sheet halves (22a, 22b) for raising the printed sheets, having a transport device (20), which takes up the raised printed sheets, for conveying the printed sheets away, characterized in that the transport device has a removal device (20) which accepts the printed sheets (22) from the lifting device (31) and has a number of controllable holding members (21) which are attached to a traction element (49) which can be driven to revolve and engage laterally between the sheet halves (22a, 22b) and clamp the printed sheets (22) at their folded edge (22').
2. Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the holding members (21) have clamping members (58, 59) which can be moved between the sheet halves (22a, 22b) and press the printed sheets (22) against an abutment (73, 74).
3. Device according to Claim 2, characterized in that each holding member (21) has two clamping members (58, 59) which are located opposite one another in relation to the conveying direction (C) of the removal device (20) and are pivotably mounted between a clamping position and a release position.
4. Device according to one of Claims 1 - 3, characterized in that the holding members (21) are pivotable about an axis (52) which runs transversely or, preferably at right angles, to the conveying direction (C) of the removal device (20).

Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the clamping members (58, 59), which are pivotable about an axis (58a, 59a) running essentially parallel to the conveying direction (C) of the removal device (20), are connected to an actuating mechanism (60, 61) which engages outside of their pivot axis (58a, 59a).

Device according to Claim 5, characterized in that the actuating mechanism (60, 61) has a rod- shaped actuating element (62, 63) which can be displaced transversely, preferably at right angles, to the conveying direction (C) of the removal device (20) and is connected via a coupling member (64, 65) to the associated clamping member (58, 59) in a manner such that the latter is pivoted into its release position as the actuating element (62, 63) is moved out, preferably against the force of a closing spring (66).

Device according to one of Claims 2 - 6, characterized in that the clamping members (58, 59) and the abutments (73, 74) of each holding member (21) are attached to a mounting (53, 54) which is pivotable about an axis (52) running transversely, preferably at right angles, to the conveying direction (C) of the removal device (20) and is preferably held in a resting position, which allows the acceptance of the printed sheets (22), by spring force (75), from which position the mounting (53, 54) can be pivoted into an opening position in which one sheet half (22b) is lifted off from the other sheet half (22a) by means of the clamping members (58, 59) engaging.
8. Device according to one of Claims 1 - 7, characterized in that the lifting device (31) has at least one lifting element (35, 36) which can be pivoted from a lower end position into an upper end position in the conveying direction (B) of the conveying device (B) and during pivoting into the upper end position which preferably takes place against a spring force (37, 38), can be moved between the printed sheet halves (22a, 22b).

Device according to one of Claims 1 - 8, characterized in that the conveying device (8) has a continuous conveying element (27) which can be driven to revolve, preferably a conveying chain, and that the lifting device (31) is arranged downstream of the latter, as seen in the conveying direction (B) of the conveying element (27).
10. Device according to one of Claims 1 - 9, characterized in that the conveying device (8) is designed as a collecting conveyor of a device (1) for collecting folded printed sheets (16, 17, 18).
11. Device according to Claim 10, characterized in that a plurality of collecting conveyors (8) having a conveying direction (B) parallel to a common axis (4a) of revolution are provided which are arranged around this axis (4a) of revolution and can be driven to revolve about the said axis (4a) of revolution while the printed sheets (16, 17, 18) are being conveyed, and in that each collecting conveyor (8) is associated with a lifting device (31) which, as it passes through a transfer zone (23), can be activated by the associated collecting conveyor (8) so as to raise the printed sheets (22).
12. Device according to Claims 8 and 11, characterized in that the lifting elements (35, 36) can be pivoted into the upper end position by an actuating mechanism (39 43) which, as it passes through the transfer zone (23) can be activated by the associated collecting conveyor (8).
