Description

The invention relates to a device and a method for transferring printed products in a rotary printing press.

There are two basic types of conventional former folding machines used for rotary printing presses, namely the two-former folder and the pointless former. A gripper brake cylinder is used in the two-station folder, which transfers the printed products directly to conveyor belts. High-speed belts, which run about 9% above machine speed, are used in the pointless hopper folder and transfer the printed products to a delivery paddle wheel, which then lays them out on conveyor belts. However, both types of folders are limited in their speed of operation due to the limitations in the delivery system. Furthermore, sheets can often skew when being transmitted by tapes if the speeds of the inner and outer tapes cannot be precisely synchronized.

No. 1,684,901 relates to a former folder with spring-activated folding rollers, by means of which a product jam occurring at high operating speeds can be eliminated. These folding rollers are attached below a folding cylinder and emboss a fold into the printed products as they pass through. The folded printed products are received in paddle wheel pockets and can then be laid out on a delivery conveyor belt in a scaled form, ie one overlapping the other.

However, with this arrangement of the transfer of the printed products from the folding cylinder into the bucket wheel pockets, these have to be inserted in the middle of the gap between the two folding rollers. This can cause a jam at high production speeds.

Die an der Fächerscheibe ausgebildeten Schaufelblätter tauchen in die Umfangsnuten am Auslegezylinder ein und entfernen somit das Druckprodukt von dessen Mantelfläche.DE-A-37 00 930 discloses a method and a device according to the preamble of claims 1 and 10, respectively, for stacking and positioning folded or unfolded blanks made of paper, cellulose, nonwoven or the like. A serrated lock washer is assigned to a delivery cylinder provided with circumferential grooves. The airfoils formed on the serrated washer dip into the circumferential grooves on the delivery cylinder and thus remove the printed product from its outer surface.

No. 3,459,421 shows a folder, the upper and lower cylinders of which are assigned a stationary pressure roller provided with a jacket. In this solution, the folded copies are guided from the outer surface of the product-carrying cylinders into the paddle wheel pockets by means of stationary wipers.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to enable a direct transfer of the printed products from a folding cylinder or paper-guiding cylinder into paddle wheel pockets without the use of scrapers, intermediate rollers or transfer belts.

A further object of the present invention is to improve the braking and the transfer of the printed products in successive, graded steps without complex guide mechanisms.

It is another object of the present invention to provide multiple handover assemblies which are enable the printed products to be deflected into several different delivery paths.

The object is achieved according to the features of patent claim 1.

The transport device attached to the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder carries and guides the printed products as they enter the paddle wheel pockets. The transport device carries the printed products on one side while the paper-guiding cylinder carries them on the other side. This two-sided support prevents the edges of the printed products from spreading or opening. It also enables the printed products taken from the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder to completely enter the corresponding paddle-wheel pockets when they slow down. The pressure-exerting device, as a result of which the transport device is adjustably positioned on the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder, has the advantage that the transport device can be adjusted precisely to the thickness of the printed product to be processed.

The present invention further provides that the airfoils are provided with airfoil tips which protrude into grooves extending along the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder. In this way, the distance between the paddle wheel disks and the paper-carrying cylinder can be kept very small. The present invention thus provides that the envelope curves of the bucket wheel disks, ie the imaginary curves formed by the tips of the bucket blades, overlap with the envelope curve formed by the circumference of the respective paper-guiding cylinder. This improves operational reliability during the transfer of print products from the peripheral surface of the paper feed Cylinder considerably and at the same time reduces the installation space occupied by the apparatus.

The present invention further provides a delivery system which comprises at least one paddle wheel and delivery conveyor belts associated with a paper-guiding cylinder. This design has the advantage that certain printed products can be directed onto a further processing path.

Finally, the present invention provides a conveyor belt system which is equipped with deflectors which can direct the printed products to a plurality of paper-guiding cylinders. This embodiment has the advantage that the printed products are conveyed via a single conveyor belt system into several delivery modules, which can also be arranged one below the other. A reusable delivery of printed products transported in parallel is therefore possible.

The present invention also relates to a method for transferring printed products in a rotary printing press, which comprises the following steps:
  • the transport of printed products to at least one paper-carrying cylinder with at least one element for gripping the printed products lying thereon,
  • the removal of the printed products directly from the surface of the paper-guiding cylinder by means of a number of airfoils of at least one impeller assigned to the paper-guiding cylinder, which has a plurality of impeller disks with a number of airfoils,
  • directing the printed products into vane wheel pockets formed between adjacent airfoils and
  • the support of the printed products during their transfer from the paper-carrying cylinder into the paddle wheel by means of a device which can be set by means of a pressure-exerting mechanism with a pressing force on a paper-carrying cylinder.

A conveyor belt system 1 transports printed products 2 to a paper-carrying cylinder 3. A device for gripping the printed products 2, which has a plurality of gripper bridges 4 arranged on the circumference of the paper-carrying cylinder 3, receives the printed products 2. As can be seen better in FIG. 2, an element controlling the gripping and releasing of the printed products 2 activates the gripper device. The gripper bridges 4 activated by a link arm 5 preferably take up a roller 6 which rotates in a curve 7. Guide brushes 8 arranged on the circumference of the paper-guiding cylinder 3 guide the printed products 2 and prevent them from coming off, especially at high production speeds.

A device for transporting the printed products 2, preferably transport rollers 10 mounted on a shaft 16a, transfers the printed products 2 from the paper-guiding cylinder 3 to a paddle wheel 9 with a number of paddle wheel disks 9a attached to a shaft 24, as shown in FIG. 2. A pressure-exerting device with a lever mechanism 11 places the transport rollers 10 on the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3, as shown in FIG. 1. The lever mechanism 11 exerts pressure on the transport rollers 10 in accordance with the thickness of the processed printed products. Furthermore, the lever mechanism 11 can completely turn off the transport rollers 10 from the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3, e.g. B. when clearing a product jam, it should occur.

After the printed products 2 have passed the area where the transport rollers 10 contact the peripheral surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3, the airfoils 12 of the impeller disks 9a take up the front edges of the printed products 2. The airfoil tips 12a of the airfoil plunge into recesses 3a which extend along the circumferential surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3, as shown in FIG. 2. The envelope curve 34 of the paddle wheel 9 and the circumference of the paper-guiding cylinder 3 overlap. The front edges of the printed products 2 are held by grippers 4a, and the airfoil tips 12a move into the space between the individual grippers 4a attached to the gripper bridge 4 and thus guide the front edges of the printed products 2.

The transport rollers 10 bring about the complete transfer of the printed products 2 into the paddle wheel pockets 13 formed between the adjacent blades 12 in the paddle wheel 9. During this transfer, the transport rollers 10 carry the printed products 2 on one side and the peripheral surface of the paper-carrying cylinder 3 carries them on the other side. This two-sided support prevents the edges of the printed products 2 from spreading or open, and by the pressure exerted by the lever mechanism 11 on the transport rollers 10, the printed products 2 are compressed and the air enclosed therein can escape. The printed products 2 are therefore fully supported for the duration of their transfer.

The printed products 2 guided by the airfoils 12 are completely inserted into the airbag pockets 13. This is carried out by the transport rollers 10 during the rotational movement of the respective paper-guiding cylinder 3 and the respective paddle wheel 9. Depending on the product size, thickness and quality, paddle wheel bags 13 can alternately remain empty, e.g. "collect" during the production process. After the printed products 2 have been completely inserted into the paddle wheel pockets 13, they are fed in a scaled form via conveyor belts to further processing units.

The paper-guiding cylinder 3 is mounted on a shaft 14 which is mounted in side walls 15 and 15a. The paper-guiding cylinder 3 is driven by a pulley 16. On the left side wall 15, the curve 7, in which the roller 6 rotates, determines the timing of the opening and closing of the grippers 4a on the gripper bridge 4.

The transport rollers 10 are arranged side by side on the shaft 16a below the paper-guiding cylinder 3. The shaft 16a is coupled to a drive shaft 18 by means of a rotationally fixed, flexible coupling 17. The drive shaft 18 is mounted on two bearings 19, 20 in the side wall 15 and is driven by a pulley 21.

The lever mechanism 11 regulates the pressure exerted on the transport rollers 10. With the help of the arms 22 and the axis 23, the shaft 16a can be adjusted. The transport rollers 10 rotate between the individual paddle wheel disks 9a. This allows the transport rollers 10 to be adjusted according to the product width. The shaft 24 is driven by a pulley 25, which has a much larger diameter than the pulleys 16 and 21.

The lever mechanism 11 comprises an actuating cylinder 26, by means of which the position and the adjustment pressure of the transport rollers 10 can be adjusted, as shown in FIG. 1. Fig. 2 shows how the blade tips 12a of the blades 12 dip into the recesses 3a in the outer surface of the paper-carrying cylinders 3 without touching them. This configuration saves installation space and increases operational reliability when transferring the printed products. In addition, the recesses 3a form an air cushion under the printed products 2 gripped by the grippers 4a. This makes it easier to remove the printed products 2 from the surface of the paper-carrying cylinder 3.

Figure 3 shows a modification of the preferred embodiment of the present invention. Several delivery modules are arranged one below the other. In this arrangement, several different types of printed products 2 can be designed. The printed products 2 are cut and transported through the conveyor belt system 1 to one of three paper-guiding cylinders 27, 28 or 29. The paper-guiding cylinders 27, 28 and 29 can be set to different working methods. In this arrangement, the gripper bridges 4 of the uppermost paper-guiding cylinder 27 are set so that they grab every third printed product 2 from the product stream. The underneath arranged paper-guiding cylinders 28 and 29 can be clocked so that every second and third printed product 2 can be removed from the product stream and fed into the downstream paddle wheels 9 and finally placed on delivery belts 33.

This modification of the preferred embodiment of the present invention also provides that all printed products 2 can also be diverted to the upper, paper-guiding cylinder 27, which has six gripper bridges. In this case, the lower delivery modules 31, 32 would be decoupled from the drive train.

The supply of certain printed products 2 to a specific one of the delivery modules 30, 31 and 32 can be carried out via switches 1A and 1B provided in the conveyor belt system 1. This enables several types of production that meet the production requirements. As already mentioned above, the paper-guiding cylinders 27, 28 and 29 are assigned transport rollers 10 which support the printed products 2 until they are completely accommodated in the paddle wheel pockets 13.

As shown in this arrangement, each of the delivery modules 30, 31 and 32 comprises a paper-carrying cylinder 27, 28 and 29, transport rollers 10, paddle wheels 9 and delivery belts 33. If a folder has hitherto been limited to only two types of production, this capacity can easily be increased by one additional delivery module can be expanded. In this case, the conveyor belt system 1 must be extended accordingly and the required number of additional delivery modules installed.

As already shown in FIG. 1, the overlap of the envelope 34 with the circumferential surface of the to recognize paper-carrying cylinder 3. Also shown is the immersion of the airfoil tips 12a in the recesses 3a, which extend along the circumferential surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3. Due to the contact of the blade tips 12a with the front edges of the printed products 2, these are removed from the surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 3 and guided into the corresponding paddle wheel pockets 13, the printed products 2 being braked.

In diesem Ausführungsbeispiel ist die Drehrichtung des papierführenden Zylinders 35 und des zugeordneten Schaufelrads 9 der Drehrichtung des in den Fig. 1 bis 4 gezeigten papierführenden Zylinders und des Schaufelrads entgegengesetzt.5 shows a device for gripping the printed products 2 on a paper-guiding cylinder 35, and FIGS. 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d and 5e show the different stages of the entry of a printed product 2 into a paddle wheel pocket 13. The one as a folding jaw cylinder in a folder trained paper-guiding cylinder 35 has a plurality of folding flaps 37 on its circumference. These jaws 37 cooperate with movable jaws 36. The movable jaws 36 are controlled by the cam roller mechanisms 5, 6 and 7 already mentioned. In this exemplary embodiment, the direction of rotation of the paper-guiding cylinder 35 and the associated paddle wheel 9 is opposite to the direction of rotation of the paper-guiding cylinder and the paddle wheel shown in FIGS. 1 to 4.

The moment in which the movable folding flap 36 releases the printed product 2 is shown. The airfoil tip 12a moves under the front edge of the printed product 2 and thus introduces the front part of the printed product into the impeller wheel pocket 13. The transfer and support of the printed products 2 is carried out by the transport rollers 10, the pressure exerted on the surface of the paper-guiding cylinder 35 being regulated.

As already described above, the envelope curve 34 overlaps the circumference of the paper-guiding cylinder 35.

Fig. 5c zeigt den Moment, wenn der Einlauf des Druckprodukts 2 in die Schaufelradtasche 13 via Transportrollen 10 vollendet ist.5b and 5c show further stages of the printed product inlet 2 into the bucket wheel pocket 13. FIG. 5c shows the moment when the entry of the printed product 2 into the bucket wheel pocket 13 via transport rollers 10 is completed.

Fig. 5d shows the printed product 2 as it moves to the outer edge of the airfoil 12. Fig. 5e shows the printed product 2 just before reaching the bottom of the bucket wheel pocket 13. With the further entry of the printed product 2 into the bucket wheel pocket 13, the distance a becomes smaller and smaller and thus prevents the edges of the printed product 2 from spreading or opening.
