Description

The present invention relates to a device for taking over, in particular, folded printed products from a rotatingly driven paddle wheel of a printing machine according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such a device is known from EP-A 0 179 992. Using a paddle wheel, signature sheets are stacked on top of one another on a delivery conveyor. The delivery conveyor has a belt with transport fingers arranged at a distance one behind the other, the synchronization of the paddle wheel and belt being set such that a transport finger transports a stack away when a predetermined number of signature sheets have been placed on top of one another and the first signature sheet of the following stack is still in the Is floating between the paddle wheel and the drop point. In order to prevent the first signature sheet of the following stack from being carried along by the finished stack to be transported away, a holding device for this signature sheet is provided at the storage location. In order to be able to move the belt at a reduced speed with the same number of stacks to be formed per unit of time, a scale formation is formed from the stacks on the delivery conveyor. In order to set the number of signature sheets stored one on top of the other in this known device, the synchronization of the delivery conveyor with the paddle wheel must be changed.

Furthermore, from EP-A 0 265 735 or the corresponding US Pat. No. 4,886,260 and EP-A 0 312 749 or the corresponding US Pat. No. 4,886,264 devices for taking over folded printed products from a rotatingly driven paddle wheel of a printing machine are known from which the printed products are placed on a delivery conveyor in a scale formation, in which each printed product rests in the manner of a roof tile on the preceding one. The delivery conveyors have a controllable gripper or cam arranged on a revolving drive element at a distance one behind the other, which can be brought into action on the printed products in the region of the trailing edges, for conveying the printed products away by product. The cams are pivotally mounted on the traction element and are pivoted into the area of the printed products by means of a fixed link in the area of the conveyor section of the delivery conveyor which is effective for conveying.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a generic device which allows the optional formation of scale formations, in which each printed product rests on the preceding one like a roof tile or two or more printed products lie on top of each other, like a roof tile on the preceding printed products, without adapting the synchronization between paddle wheel and delivery conveyor, allowed.

This object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1.

At least every second driver of a delivery conveyor can be switched off from the area affected by the printed products. In the case of drivers that are not disconnected, each printed product is grasped at its trailing edge and conveyed away in a roof tile-like manner on the preceding printed product. If every second driver is removed from the area of action on the printed products, two printed products stored one on top of the other are detected by each active conveyor, these two superimposed printed products each lying on the preceding pair of printed products in the manner of a roof tile. Neither the synchronization between the paddle wheel and the delivery conveyor nor the speed of the drivers can be changed. If in each case two drivers arranged one behind the other can be switched off from the area of action on the printed products and every third driver has a promotional effect, three printed products placed one on top of the other are conveyed away by the latter.

A particularly preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, by means of which an extremely precise formation of dandruff is possible, is specified in claim 7. The trailing edges of the printed products are guided by driving elements of a guide device to the depositing point and held there by the driving elements until the driving elements have passed the support point.

Further preferred embodiments of the device according to the invention are specified in the further dependent claims.

The device shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 has a paddle wheel arrangement of a printing machine with four paddle wheels 10 arranged side by side and driven in the direction of arrow A, only one of which is visible in FIGS. 1 and 2. Each paddle wheel 10 has blades 12 arranged in a star shape, which delimit pockets 14 which are closed at their inner end by means of a base 16. Folded printed products 18, such as newspapers, magazines or parts thereof, are shot into the pockets 14 in a known manner, not shown, with their fold 20 ahead. An ejection member 22 is provided between each of the paddle wheels 10 arranged on one side. In the course of the rotation of the paddle wheels 10 in the direction of arrow A, the printed products 18 come to rest with their leading fold 20 on the ejection member 22, as a result of which the printed products 18 are ejected from the pockets 14 and at a depositing location designated 24 on a delivery conveyor 26 arranged below the paddle wheels 10 be filed.

The delivery conveyor 26 has, below a two-part delivery plate 28, the parts 28 'of which are laterally spaced apart (FIG. 3), a cam conveyor 30 with two chains 34 guided around chain wheels 32. The corresponding sprockets 32 are mounted on common shafts 35, 35 '. The chains 34 are driven in rotation in synchronism with each other in the conveying direction F and have cams 36, 36 ′ arranged one behind the other at a fixed distance. The two chains 34, which run parallel to one another, are spaced apart from one another in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction F in such a way that the cams 36, 36 'in question pass between them adjacent to the extension plate parts 28'.

Der Begrenzungsbolzen 42 begrenzt die Schwenkbewegung der Nocken 36, 36'.The cams with solid lines and with 36 are arranged directly to the side of the chain 34, while the cams provided therebetween, shown in dash-dot lines and labeled 36 ', are further spaced from the chain 34, to the side of the cams 36, on the chain 34 are stored (see in particular Figure 3). The cams 36, 36 'are constructed identically and are pivotably mounted on the chain 34 by means of a bolt 38 each. Each cam 36, 36 'has, seen in the conveying direction F, following the pin 38, an elongated hole 40 which is concentric with the pin 38 and through which a limiting pin 42 also fastened to the chain 34 runs. The limiting pin 42 limits the pivoting movement of the cams 36, 36 '.

A fixed swivel link 44 is assigned to the cams 36 of each chain 34 and, viewed in the conveying direction F, extends in the region of the chain wheel 32 upstream of the deposit point 24, starting in front of the other chain wheel 72. When running onto the pivoting link 44, the cams 36 are pivoted counterclockwise into their driving position, designated 46, in which they protrude in the region of the delivery plate 28 with their driving lugs 48. When running from the pivoting link 44, the cams 36 pivot clockwise by their own weight or possibly under the force of a spring from the driving position 46 into a rest position 50, in which the free ends of the driving lugs 48 are arranged below the surface of the extension plate 28. The rest position 50 is shown using the example of a cam 36 '. When pivoting the cam 36 from the driving position 46 into the rest position 50 at the end of the pivot link 44, the driving lugs 48 pivot from the area of action onto the trailing edges 52 of the printed products 18 deposited on the delivery plate 28 and conveyed away by means of the cams 36, without the fold Damage 20 opposite open trailing edge 52. It should be noted here that the cams 36 are pivoted into their rest position 50 before the cams 36 run onto the circumference of the chain wheel 32.

A control link 54 of similar design to the pivot link 44 is assigned to the cams 36 '. This is indicated in FIGS. 1 and 2 only by a dash-dot line over a region of its length. The control link 54 is by means of a control device 55 shown only schematically in FIG. 1 from its rest position shown in the figures in FIG a pivot position in which it is at the level of the pivot link 44 and can be brought back again. If the control link 54 is in its rest position, the cams 36 'remain in the rest position 50 in the region of the control link 54, while when the control link 54 is raised in the pivoted position, they pivot into the driving position 46, in which the driving lugs 48 of the cams 36' pass over pick out the extension plate 28. When the control link 54 is in the rest position, only the cams 36 are thus active in conveyance, while when the control link 54 is in the pivoting position, both the cams 36 and the cams 36 ′ are active in delivery.

At the storage location 24, a holding device designated 56 is provided. This has a perforated plate 58, aligned with the delivery plate 28, arranged between the chains 34, the holes 60 of which open into a channel 62 which is connected via a line 64 to a vacuum source, not shown. The flow of the air sucked in by the vacuum source is indicated by arrows. The printed product 18 lying directly on the perforated plate 58 is held in the area adjacent to the trailing edge 52 as a result of the negative pressure by the holding device 56.

Along the path of movement of the trailing edges 52 during ejection from the pockets 14 of the paddle wheel 10 there is a guide element 66 which has in its upper end region an inlet curve 66 'directed away from the paddle wheel 10 and whose lower end region crosses the conveying plane 68 defined by the delivery plate 28. The guide member 66 is not shown in FIG. 3 for the sake of clarity.

An alignment and pressing arrangement 70 is provided on the side of the guide member 66 facing away from the impeller 10. This has an endless chain 74 guided around two further sprockets 72, to which pushers 76 are attached in pairs at certain intervals. The lower sprocket 72 is mounted on the same shaft 35 as the sprocket 32 of the cam conveyor 30 located upstream of the depositing point 24 in the direction of conveyance F. The active run 74 'of this endless chain 74 runs parallel to the guide member 66 and crosses the conveying plane 68 adjacent to the holding device 56. The pushers 76 are pivotably mounted on the endless chain 74 and, in the rest position shown in the figures, are approximately at right angles to the endless chain 74 thereof Direction towards the outside, so that the arms 76 'of the pressers 76 protrude in the region of the guide member 66 in the direction of the paddle wheel 10. When pressed onto the holding device 56 or onto a printed product 18 placed thereon, the pressers 76 can be pivoted clockwise against the force of a spring. After passing the holding device 56, the pressure pusher 76 swings back into its rest position shown in the figures. Such pressers 76 and their mode of operation are described in EP-A 0 312 749 and the corresponding US Pat. No. 4,886,264. The distance between two successive pressers 76 is greater than the distance between the trailing edge 52 of two printed products 18 arranged in adjacent pockets 14 during ejection from the paddle wheel 10. However, the endless chain 74 is circumferential in the direction of arrow B against the direction of rotation A of the paddle wheel 10 Speed driven which is greater than the circumferential speed of the blades 12 in such a way that a presser 76 is assigned to each pocket 14 or each printed product 18 arranged therein.

The aligning and pressing arrangement 70 is synchronized with the paddle wheel 10 in such a way that, viewed in the direction of rotation A, a presser 76 comes to lie behind the printed product 18 to be ejected and then catches up with it in the course of the movement to the depositing point 24. In the area of the depositing point 24, the printed product 18 is then moved in the area of its trailing edge 52 by the presser 76 against the perforated plate 58, brought to bear on it and pressed until the presser 76 has passed the holding device 56 and through it clockwise out of engagement with the relevant printed product 18 was pivoted.

In FIG. 1, two printed products 18 placed one on top of the other rest on the delivery plate 28 and are conveyed away in the conveying direction F by a cam 36. The area of the trailing edge 52 of a further printed product 18 lies on the perforated plate 58 of the holding device 56 and is pressed there by means of a presser 76. The trailing edge 52 of the next-to-be-printed product 18 lies with the trailing edge 52 on the guide member 66 and behind it there is a further presser 76.

In FIG. 2, the two printed products 18 stacked one above the other have been released by the cam 36. These two superimposed printed products 18 lie with the area of their folds 20 on the leading pair of printed products 18, not shown, and are conveyed away by means of a conveyor, not shown, downstream of the cam conveyor 30, for example a belt conveyor. The area the trailing edge 52 of the printed product 18 lying on the holding device 56 has been released from the corresponding pocket 14 and now lies with the area of its fold 20 in scaly form on the two printed products 18 stored one above the other. Another printed product 18 now lies with the area of its trailing edge 52 at the depositing point 24 on the already stored printed product 18 and is pressed against it by means of the corresponding presser 76. A cam 36 of the cam conveyor 30, seen in the direction of the arrow F, runs onto the trailing edges 52 of these latter two printed products 18 and, as soon as they have been released by the presser 76, push them in the direction of the arrow F from the holding device 56.

Die gezeigte Vorrichtung arbeitet wie folgt:The device shown works as follows:

In order to form a scale formation, in each of which two printed products 18 lie in a scale-like manner on the preceding printed products 18, the control link 54 assigned to the cams 36 'is held in its lower rest position shown in the figures, so that in each case only the cams 36 are conveying active and the cams 36 'are in the rest position 50 in the area of the holding device 56 and the delivery plate 28. As shown in FIG. 1, a printed product 18 is placed with its trailing edge 52 on the holding device 56 and pressed there by the corresponding presser 76 until it is pivoted out of engagement with the printed product 18 by the holding device 56. This printed product 18 cannot be conveyed away by the cam 36 ′ which is in the rest position 50 and is held against by the holding device 56 retained by the printed products 18 which have already been placed on top of one another and conveyed away in the conveying direction F. Another is placed on the printed product 18 held by the holding device 56 (FIG. 2), which in turn is held back by a corresponding presser 76 in the area of the holding device 56 until the presser 76 by passing the holding device 56 past it from the active area is pivoted onto the printed products 18. A cam 36 now comes to rest against the trailing edges 52 of the printed products 18 placed one above the other as soon as the presser 76 has released the printed products 18 and pushes them away from the holding device 56. The folds 20 of these printed products 18 placed one on top of the other rest on the two stacked printed products 18 leading in the conveying direction F. The next printed product to be ejected from the impeller 10 in turn comes to rest on the perforated plate 58 of the holding device 56, as shown in FIG. 1. It should be noted that as a result of the higher rotational speed of the pressers 76 with respect to the speed of the trailing edges 52, the pressers 76 do not correctly and correctly grip printed products 18 lying in the pockets 14 and push forward in the direction of the arrow A until they rest against the ejection member 22 . In addition, the pressers 76 press the printed products 18 onto the holding device 56 or onto the printed product 18 placed thereon until the printed product 18 coming into contact with the perforated plate 58 is sufficiently held by the holding device 56 as a result of the negative pressure building up or the friction between the two stacked printed products 18 is so large that the overhead Printed product 18 cannot be taken away from the blade 12, on which it still rests with its leading area.

In order to form a scale formation, in which each printed product 18 rests in the manner of a roof tile on the preceding printed product 18, the control link 54 is raised into the upper pivot position, so that both the cams 36 and the cams 36 'are active in conveying. The result of this is that each printed product 18 ejected from the impeller 10 is individually gripped by a cam 36 or 36 'and conveyed away in the conveying direction F. In this operating mode, it is no longer absolutely necessary that the holding device is in operation, that is to say that it remains connected to the vacuum source or the vacuum source is in operation. The pressers 76 temporarily hold back the printed product 18 lying on the holding device 56 against being carried along by the leading printed product or the relevant blade 12. In order to achieve an extremely precise scale formation, the holding device 56 advantageously also remains switched on in this operating mode.

It should be noted that there is no need to make any speed adjustments or synchronization changes between the bucket wheel 10, the delivery conveyor 26 and the alignment and pressing arrangement 70 for switching from one operating mode to the other. The control link 54 is only to be held either in its lower rest position shown in the figures or raised to the pivoting position, in which it is located at the same height as the pivoting link 44.

The fact that the printed products 18 are guided or held during the entire laying process results in an extremely precise scale formation. In the case of a scale formation, in which two printed products 18 each resemble roof tiles on the leading pair of printed products 18, the distance between the trailing edges 52 or folds 20 of two pairs of printed products 18 corresponds to the distance between two successive cams 36, whereas one Scale formation in which each printed product 18 rests like a roof tile on the leading one, the distance between the trailing edges 52 corresponds to the distance between the cams 36 and 36 '.

It is also conceivable that more controllable grippers are arranged on the chain 34 of the delivery conveyor 26, of which in turn at least every second one can be brought out of the active area onto the printed products 18. These grippers grip the stored printed products 18 in the area of their trailing edges 52, as is known, for example, from EP-A 0 312 749 and 0 265 735 or the corresponding US Pat. Nos. 4,886,264 and 4,886,260. It is of course also possible to arrange the cams, which are always effective in conveying, on a pulling element and to provide a further pulling element for the cams which can be switched off, the pulling elements being synchronous with one another and at least for the conveying away of the printed products in a scale formation in which each printed product rests on the preceding one in the manner of a roof tile are driven offset by half a pitch of the cams. For the placement of two printed products on top of each other, the second pulling element can then be switched off and the cams in question can be moved from the area affected Printed products are kept pivoted. To guide the printed products in the area of their trailing edges when ejecting them from the pockets of the paddle wheel, it is also conceivable to provide a rotating belt instead of the guide element 66 and the alignment and pressing arrangement 70, against which the printed products come into contact with their trailing edges.

The holding device 56 can be connected intermittently or continuously to the vacuum source in time with the printed products 18 to be removed. In any case, the cam conveyor 30 pushes the printed products 18 away in a precisely aligned manner, since the cams 36, 36 ′ engage in pairs.

The holding device can also be designed differently than is shown in the exemplary embodiment, for example it can have a holding finger or gripper in order to temporarily hold the relevant printed products.
