Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for recycling the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, and more particularly of a diesel engine.
  • the gases to be recycled are brought from at least one exhaust duct to a ramp forming a recycling manifold, mounted on the engine and connected separately to each of the fresh gas intake ducts arranged or formed in the cylinder head of the engine.
  • the present invention aims to remedy the drawbacks stated above, by proposing a compact and economical device to produce, in which the ramp is designed in a simple manner and able to withstand the mechanical stresses generated in the engine.
  • the subject of the invention is a device for recycling the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, of the type in which a ramp connected to the engine exhaust is connected separately to several intake ducts formed in the cylinder head of this engine, characterized in that the ramp came integrally with a support which comprises camshaft bearing elements and which covers the cylinder head, sections of conduit extending through the support in the extension of the cylinder head intake ducts.
  • each of the abovementioned sections of conduit is respectively connected to the ramp by a hole internal aligned with a hole opening on the outside of the ramp and closed by a plug.
  • each internal hole of the ramp has its own diameter and chosen to optimize the distribution of the recycled exhaust gases between the various engine intake ducts.
  • the aforementioned elements are camshaft bearing caps, integrally formed with the aforementioned support.
  • the device is also characterized in that the ramp is connected to an exhaust manifold via a distribution valve.
  • the invention is characterized in that the aforementioned distribution valve is connected to the ramp by means of a slightly flexible tube connected substantially in the middle of the ramp to a cylindrical connection integrated in the support.
  • an internal combustion engine 1 such as a diesel engine for example for a motor vehicle.
  • the reference numeral 11 designates the cylinder head of the engine 1.
  • the cylinder head 11 is a foundry piece inside which are formed or arranged four intake ducts 12 and four exhaust ducts 14 of the engine 1.
  • each of the cylinders (not shown) of the engine 1 communicates with one of the intake ducts 12 and one of the exhaust ducts 14, in order to respectively connect this cylinder to a gas intake system 20 " fresh "and to an exhaust system 40 for the burnt gases inside this cylinder.
  • the engine 1 includes a device 60 for recycling the burnt gases coming from the exhaust system 40.
  • the device 60 essentially consists of a manifold forming a manifold 65 for the gases to be recycled, which is connected on the one hand to the 'exhaust 40 and on the other hand to the intake system 20 of the engine 1.
  • the ramp 65 is in fact connected separately to each of the intake ducts 12, so as to distribute the gases to be recycled between the different cylinders of the engine 1 .
  • the ramp 65 has come integrally with a support 50 for bearing elements 52, capable of guiding a camshaft, of which only the longitudinal axis of rotation X is visible in FIG. 1.
  • the support 50 is a foundry part obtained by pressure casting of a metallic material such as aluminum, in which the elements 52 are bearing caps also coming from foundry.
  • the support 50 defines two parallel joint planes 50a, 50b which extend over substantially the entire length (along the axis X) of the motor 1.
  • the joint plane 50b covers and comes to bear against a corresponding joint plane of the cylinder head 11.
  • the support 50 in which the ramp 65 is integrated constitutes a cylinder head cover on the upper joint plane 50a from which a cover 13 is mounted.
  • the recycling ramp 65 defines in the support 50 an elongated cavity 65a whose cross section is substantially rectangular and which extends laterally along the axis X, over almost the entire length of the motor 1.
  • a section of conduit 62 which extends perpendicular to the planes 50a, 50b is formed in the support 50.
  • a section of conduit 62 passes through the support 50 in the extension of each of the conduits intake 12 of the cylinder head 11.
  • These sections 62 are generally parallel and connect each of the conduits 12 to the intake system 20 which is mounted on the cover 13.
  • each of these sections of conduit 62 is respectively connected to the internal cavity 65a of the ramp by an internal hole 63 arranged in alignment or opposite a corresponding through hole 64.
  • each of the holes 64 opens to the outside of the ramp 65 and is formed by the same cutting tool as the corresponding internal hole 63.
  • Each of the through holes 64 is hermetically sealed by a plug 66, for example force fitted.
  • the internal holes 63 may have different diameters.
  • the diameter - and therefore the cross-section - of each of the holes 63 is determined as a function of the specific characteristics of the engine and of the gas circulation in the device 60.
  • the ramp 65 projects from the lateral edge of the cylinder head 11 (between the joint planes 50a, 50b).
  • the latter has substantially in its middle along the direction of the axis X, a cylindrical connection 69 formed integrally with the ramp 65 and extending projecting from the lower joint plane 50b of the support 50.
  • a slightly flexible tube 67 by example made of stainless steel is fixed on the fitting 69 in order to connect the internal cavity 65a to a valve of distribution 68.
  • This valve 68 makes it possible to direct an appropriate quantity of exhaust gas to be recycled to the device 60. To do this, the valve 68 is connected to an exhaust manifold 48 into which the four conduits 14 of the cylinder head 11 open.
  • the tube 67 which connects the ramp 65 and the distribution valve 68 has bellows by which the shape of the tube 67 can be adapted to the relative position of the connector 69 of the ramp and of the valve 68.
