Abstract

A method for producing a closure for a bottle which has a holding part (16), a sealing part (17), and a seal made of compressible material which is arranged between the annular sealing surface of the sealing part and an annular end face of the bottle neck (20) and, in the closed state, rests both against the sealing surface of the sealing part (17) and against the end face of the bottle neck (20) in the circumferential direction with different contact pressure. The method is characterised in that a sealing disc (18) made of compressible material is inserted into a cap, forming the holding part (16) and sealing part (17), with a flat sealing surface of the sealing part (17) and made of a deformable metal, in that the cap is fitted with the sealing disc (18) onto the bottle neck (20), in that a pressing ram (21) is pressed from the outside against the sealing part (17) of the cap, which pressing ram has on its end face projections (24) arranged spaced apart in the circumferential direction so that the sealing part (17) is deformed only at the points on these projections (24) in the direction towards the end face of the bottle neck (20) so that the seal is compressed to a lesser extent in the region of the non-deformed parts. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a closure of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1 for a bottle or the like.

From DE-C-36 42 998 a closure is known in which, in addition to the radial sealing face on the end face, axial sealing faces are provided in the region of the mouth edge of a bottle, into which the sealing compound of the seal extends. The sealing part is deep-drawn and extends around the mouth of the bottle so as to form the outer, axial sealing surface. The essence of this known closure should consist in the fact that the sealing part, at least in a partial area at the transition from the sealing part to the holding part, is not deep-drawn down to the lateral mouth edge of the neck of the bottle, but is rather excluded from such a deformation. In this way, a reduced sealing distance is to be created in the undeformed partial area, which, due to its brevity, should result in less tightness. In this way, the escape of excess pressure is to be promoted. With such a closure, the escape of excess pressure is less dependent on the sealing section than on the contact pressure of the seal. However, this is the same with this known closure over the entire mouth edge. The desired effect of a pressure relief valve is therefore only very incompletely achieved.

From DE-C-37 44 292 a closure for a bottle or the like is known which has a cap-shaped holding part on which there is an inwardly directed projection or collar for engaging behind an outer bead of a bottle neck. This holding part is connected via an elastic element to a sealing part with an annular sealing surface for contact with an end face of the bottle neck. The holding part has a stop for the defined contact of the holding part on the edge of the bottle neck. Since the sealing part also abuts the edge of the bottle neck, the mutual position of the holding part and the sealing part is precisely defined. Since the elastic element for prestressing the sealing part is located between the two, the size of the prestressing of the elastic element is also precisely defined and thus the pressure at which the sealing part lifts off, that is to say opens the pressure relief valve.

From US-A-40 89 434 a screw cap of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1 is known, in which between the bottom of the screw cap and the front edge of the bottle neck is a seal made of foam, which has different thicknesses in its cross section in a diametrical direction Has. When screwing on, the areas of greater thickness are thus pressed together more than the areas of reduced thickness. The sealing force is therefore less in the areas of reduced thickness, and these areas are intended to serve as a pressure relief valve. The opening pressure depends on the compression of the entire seal and is therefore not independent of the screwing torque. If the screwing is done with too little torque, the areas of reduced thickness are not brought into contact, the seal is not tight. If the seal is screwed on with too much force, the contact force is also too great in the area of the smaller thickness, so that the opening pressure is correspondingly too great and the risk of Explosion of the bottle results. In addition, there is the particular disadvantage that most of the torque when screwing is due to the compression of the areas of the gasket of large thickness, especially since their area is substantially larger than the area of the areas of lesser thickness, so that the increased increase in torque due to the additional compression is hardly noticeable in the area of thinner seal thickness, especially not when screwing on by hand. However, screwing on by hand is the normal case in practical use and is decisive. The danger of explosions therefore normally continues to exist.

From DE-A-1 432 224 a vent seal for a closure similar to the previously treated US-A-3 114 467 and DE-U-8 122 918 O 1 cap-shaped closures with overpressure protection are known, in each of which one in the bottom flat sealing washer is arranged, behind which there are recesses at some circumferential locations. If such a cap is screwed onto the neck of a bottle and there is pressure in the bottle, the edge of the disc-shaped seal rises slightly at the points where the recesses are in the bottom of the cap, so that excess pressure can escape. A disadvantage of these known screw closures is that in the area of the recesses in the bottom of the screw caps there is no pressing of the edge of the sealing disk against the end edge of the bottle neck. The inside of the bottle, for example a beverage liquid, can therefore escape from the bottle at the slightest overpressure, which is not desirable. There is also the disadvantage that, especially in the case of glass bottles, due to the manufacturing tolerances or in the event of contamination on the end face of the bottle rim or on the seal, sealing of the seal on the end face of the bottle neck is impossible is.

From US-A-2 542 741 a screw cap for a bottle or the like is known, in the bottom of which a seal is arranged which consists of three layers, namely a back layer and a front layer running parallel to it and spaced parallel to it, which via a flexible intermediate layer in Shape of wavy and sloping supports are kept at a distance from each other. Due to their shape, these supports give the overall seal compressibility. Due to this compressibility, excess pressure can escape from the bottle if it is large enough to compress the seal and thus lift it off the front edge of the bottle neck. The opening pressure therefore depends on the compression of the resilient seal, which in turn depends on the screwing torque. There is thus no independence of the opening pressure from the screwing torque, which can be very different, especially when screwing on by hand. This means that the risk of bottles bursting and thus the risk of injury is not avoided.

The invention has for its object to provide a closure of the type in question, which is simple in construction and largely reliably independent of the screwing torque opens at a predetermined pressure.

The object underlying the invention is achieved by the teaching specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The invention frees itself from the known idea of pressing the sealing part as a whole against the mouth of the bottle neck via an elastic element. Rather, the basic idea of the invention is to create a seal, stop and elastic element only by the design of the seal.

According to the general teaching given in claim 1 the seal has a constant thickness and consists of material of different compressibility over the circumference. The locations of low compressibility form stops, while the locations of greater compressibility can stand out at a predetermined overpressure, so that an overpressure is formed. For example, the material of the seal can have cavities, in particular bubbles, at some points, as a result of which foam is practically formed at these points. In all embodiments of the invention, it is possible to provide recesses on the side of the seal facing away from the sealing surface, which provide easier compressibility.

The material of the holding and sealing part can be any, for. B. plastic or metal. It can be a screw or crown closure or any other closure.

The invention will be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawing.
Fig. 1

Fig. 2
shows a plan view of the seal in Fig. 1st

Halteteil 1 und Dichtteil 2 sind aus Aluminium tiefgezogen und/oder gedrückt, wie das allgemein bei derartigen Schraubverschlüssen üblich ist.1 and 2, a holding part 1 and a sealing part 2 together form a screw cap, for which purpose threads 3 are provided in the holding part 1, with which the holding part 1 can be screwed onto bead-shaped threads 4 of a bottle neck 5 of a bottle 6, which is only partially shown. Holding part 1 and sealing part 2 are deep-drawn and / or pressed from aluminum, as is generally the case with screw closures of this type.

In its edge area, the sealing part 2 has a flat, annular sealing surface 7, between which and one End face of the bottle neck 5 there is a seal 8, which has the same cross-section, that is to say the same thickness over the circumference. However, as can be seen from the top view of the seal in FIG. 2, this seal 8 has three areas 9, 10 and 11, which have a lower, preferably substantially less compressibility than a central area 12. These areas 9, 10 and 11 thus act as stops and determine the compression of the central region 12 of the seal 8 in the region of the sealing surface. At these points, the material of the seal can therefore lift off the sealing support at a certain excess pressure and thus allow excess pressure to escape.
