Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an installation for automatic cleaning of a protective tube for continuous casting jet.
  • This tube fixed at the end of the ladle's pouring hole, is immersed in the distributor in order to guide the jet, to avoid renitriding of the metal and its oxidation due to its contact with air, and avoid the entrainment of dross and slag present on the surface of the liquid metal contained in the distributor either towards the bottom, because of the emulsion generated by the fall of the metal from the ladle towards the distributor, or towards the outside of the dispenser due to possible splashing due to said fall.
  • the ladle is provided at its bottom with a tap hole with a vertical axis comprising a shutter drawer and means of temporary attachment to the jet protective tube such as a nozzle ensuring sealing.
  • the protective tube When the molten metal is poured, the protective tube is brought below the ladle and held with it in the axis of the tap hole.
  • This jet protective tube quickly becomes clogged during casting due to the solidification of the metal and its cleaning is necessary with each change of pocket.
  • the combustion of oxygen with the iron inside the protective tube acts as a torch, which makes it possible to remove the solidified metal in said protective tube.
  • the cleaning of the protective tube depends on the dexterity of the operator who works in a dark, congested environment near the ladle and the dispenser, so that cleaning the tube is not always well carried out which involves a risk of piercing the tube, a risk of resurgence due to plugging thereof as well as a risk of renitriding the metal due to a poor seal between the nozzle, the pocket and the protective tube.
  • the object of the present invention is to avoid these drawbacks by proposing an installation for automatic cleaning of a protective tube for a continuous casting jet.
  • a continuous casting installation is composed of a casting ladle 1 supported for example by a gantry not shown and containing liquid metal 2.
  • the ladle 1 is arranged above a distributor or distributor 3 supported by a casting floor 4 by suitable means.
  • the metal is guided by a jet protective tube 5.
  • the ladle 1 is of known type and provided at its bottom with a tap hole 6, of circular vertical axis and comprising, on the one hand, a shutter drawer 7 and, on the other hand, means 8 for momentary attachment of the protective tube 5 such as a nozzle ensuring sealing.
  • the distributor 3 located under the ladle 1 is filled with a bath of liquid metal 9 and is provided at its bottom with a hole 10 connected in a known manner to the casting line 11.
  • the jet protective tube 5 is a vertical tube of axis coincident with the axis of the tap hole 6 of the bag 1 and its lower end plunges into the bath 9 of liquid metal of the distributor 3 in order to avoid in particular the re-nitriding of the metal and its oxidation due to its contact with air.
  • This jet protective tube 5 quickly becomes clogged during casting due to the solidification of the metal and its cleaning is necessary at each change of pocket.
  • the subject of the present invention is an automatic installation 20 for cleaning the protective tube 5.
  • This installation shown schematically in FIG. 1 comprises the means for transferring the protective tube 5 between the ladle 1 and this installation and for maintaining this protective tube 5 in said installation.
  • a manipulator 21 supported by a gantry 22 ( Figures 1 and 2).
  • the manipulator 21 makes it possible to hold the protective tube 5 under the ladle 1 and moving said protective tube 5 between the ladle 1 and the scouring installation 20.
  • This manipulator 21 can be moved vertically by suitable means, not shown, and comprises an arm 23, horizontal which is provided at its free end with a member for engaging the protective tube 5, constituted for example by a rotary head.
  • the scouring installation 20 includes means for sucking up the fumes emitted during the scouring of the protective tube 5.
  • suction means consist of a hood 25 connected by a conduit 26 to a smoke filtration system not shown.
  • the scrub installation 20 also includes means for insufflating oxygen under pressure.
  • These oxygen blowing means comprise a scouring ball 27 which will be described in more detail later. and which is arranged below the hood 25.
  • the scouring ball 27 is supported by a support 28 disposed inside the hood 25 and is connected by a conduit 29 to oxygen supply means, not shown.
  • the scouring installation 20 includes means for recovering the metal leaving the protective tube 5 when it is scoured, constituted by a tank 30 made of bricks of refractory material and filled with sand.
  • the hood 25 is arranged above and at a certain distance from the tank 30 so as to provide sufficient space for the positioning of the protective tube 5 by the arm 23 of the manipulator 21.
  • the scouring ball 27 is formed of two parts, an end piece 40 of refractory material and a sleeve 41 of stainless steel.
  • the refractory material is for example graphite alumina.
  • the end piece 40 has, over part of its length, a blind bore 42.
  • this nozzle 40 comprises a cylindrical portion 40a delimited at one of its ends by a flat face 40b and at the other end by a spherical cap 40c.
  • the nozzle 40 also includes channels 43 for distributing oxygen which are inclined relative to the axis of said nozzle. These channels 43 diverge from the center of the spherical cap 40c towards its periphery and put the bore 42 into communication with the outside.
  • the channels 43 are for example six in number, as shown in FIG. 4.
  • the sleeve 41 comprises a central oxygen supply duct 41a and on its external surface, a first smooth portion 41b intended to be introduced into the bore 42 of the end piece 40, a second threaded portion 41c and a third portion 41d intended to be connected to conduit 29.
  • end piece 40 and the sleeve 41 are equipped with locking means between them which are constituted, in this exemplary embodiment, by a bayonet system 44 and by at least one nut 45 screwed onto the threaded portion 41c of the sleeve. 41 and intended to come to be applied on the flat upper part 40b of said nozzle.
  • a metal washer 46 is interposed between the nut 45 and the end piece 40.
  • the end piece 40 and the sleeve 41 can be glued.
  • the scouring ball 27 also consists of two parts, a tip 40 and a sleeve 41 inserted into said tip.
  • This end piece 40 comprises, as for the previous embodiment, a cylindrical portion 40a delimited at one of its ends by a flat face 40b and at the other end by a spherical cap 40c.
  • the sleeve 41 also includes a central oxygen supply duct 41a, and on its external face, a first smooth portion 41b, a second threaded portion 41c and a third portion 41d intended to be connected to the duct 29.
  • the bore 42 of the end piece 40 opens into a chamber 50 formed inside said end piece.
  • the channels 43 also open into this chamber 50 and are, in this case, parallel to the axis of the end piece 40. These channels are for example six in number.
  • the means for locking the sleeve 41 in the end piece 40 are constituted by a pin 51 passing through the end piece 40 and the portion 41b of the sleeve 41 disposed in said end piece and also by at least one nut 45 screwed onto the threaded portion 41c of the sleeve 41 and intended to come to bear on the upper part 40b of the end piece 40.
  • the end piece 40 and the sleeve 41 can be glued together.
  • the manipulator 21 supporting and pressing the protective tube 5 to the ladle 1 separates it from the latter.
