Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improved fiber composite in the overlap area of needled bentonite sealing mats.
Such water and / or oil-impermeable sealing mats known from DE-OS 37 04 503 essentially consist of a carrier layer, an intermediate layer of swellable bentonite and a cover layer. In the present case, both the backing layer and the top layer consist of a nonwoven fabric.
The nonwovens used preferably consist of quality plastic fibers, in particular of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyacrylic and / or polyamide fibers. Nonwovens made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene are particularly preferred in the field of landfill technology. They are rot-proof (resistant) to all substances found in water and in the ground and thus demonstrably guarantee an extremely long life. Their extremely high tensile strength means that they are largely insensitive to mechanical stress.
In terms of structure, the nonwovens used are preferably spunbond nonwovens mechanically consolidated by needling. They are constructed in such a way that the crimped fibers form a flat structure with innumerable labyrinthine passages. The floor structure is ideally reproduced. The structure of the nonwovens can be adjusted coarser or finer depending on the nature of the soil, so that an optimal adaptation to the type of soil is guaranteed. The mechanical strengthening guarantees one high coefficient of friction between the existing floor and the nonwoven and the cover. Instead of the nonwovens mechanically consolidated by needling, it is also possible to use those nonwovens which have been mechanically consolidated by means of sewing technology or by swirling, or those nonwovens which have been chemically consolidated.
The swellable bentonites used as an intermediate layer are clays with a noticeable to high smectite (montmorillonite) content, which decisively determines the properties (high swellability, good water binding capacity, high plasticity). In order to obtain a highly swellable active bentonite from an alkaline earth bentonite which is not readily swellable in water, the alkaline earth ions of the bentonites are replaced by alkali ions, preferably sodium ions. Sodium bentonite with its greatly increased plasticity, viscosity, thixotropy and water absorption is therefore preferred as the "highly swellable" active bentonite. The naturally occurring sodium bentonites are particularly preferred, in particular those that come from the mining area in Wyoming, USA.
In the manufacture of these known sealing mats, the procedure is first to apply the layer of dry, swellable bentonite to the backing layer and then the top layer and then needling all three layers in a needle chair.
The sealing mats obtained in this way are usually 4.5 meters wide and 30 meters long and are delivered to the construction site on rolls.
When laying these sealing mats, proceed in such a way that an edge overlap of 30 to 50 cm is obtained. It is known to carefully seal the overlap area with bentonite powder and / or bentonite paste. To this end a 10 cm wide and 1 cm thick strip of bentonite powder or bentonite paste is applied to the wrinkle-free rolled sheet at a distance of approx. 30 cm from the edge. The bentonite powder can be applied with a gritter, for example. You can fill the paste by hand or press it on using a pump from an appropriately shaped mouthpiece. The next sheet is then overlapped on top of it.
The sprinkled bentonite powder or the applied bentonite paste not only serves to seal the space between the overlapping areas, but part of the powder or paste also penetrates into the opposing nonwovens. According to investigations in the field and in the laboratory, this joining technique can achieve a water permeability coefficient of k = approx. 5 x 10 to -9 m / s in the overlap area. Since the sealing mat itself has water permeability coefficients of less than 10 to -10 m / s, it is an object of the present invention to develop a joining technique which allows water permeability coefficients in the order of the tightness of the mat itself to be expected in the overlap region. A disadvantage of the previous joining technology has also been found that on slopes or when applying the layers of earth necessary for loading the mat on horizontal surfaces, a mutual mat shift with fold formation in the overlap area can occur. Another object of the present invention is therefore to improve the previously used joining technology in the overlap area of bentonite mats of the type described above in such a way that the overlap area forms a force-fitting unit, so that no displacement of the nonwoven layers in the overlap area is possible.
- (a) in that with bentonite powder or bentonite paste The provided overlap area is needled in situ with a mobile needling device at the construction site, whereby on the one hand a non-positive connection of the nonwoven layers lying opposite in the overlap area is achieved and on the other hand so much bentonite is needled into the pore spaces of the opposite nonwoven layers that these nonwoven areas have a satisfactory order of magnitude Water resistance of the sealing mat itself show water resistance, or
- (b) by filling in the overlapping nonwoven layers all the pore spaces with bitumen or an all-weather, weather-resistant plastic that is resistant to soil bacteria, whereby bitumen or plastic can be present in a mixture with bentonite, which is done either in situ on the construction site or in the factory can, and then the completely filled, overlapping non-woven areas with all-weather, weather-resistant and soil bacteria-resistant adhesives bonded or welded non-positively, the bitumen or plastic systems used, optionally in a mixture with bentonite, when the edge areas are soaked in situ. simultaneously glue the overlapping nonwoven areas, or
- (c) by either melting the nonwoven areas of the sealing mat, which later form the overlap area, on one or both sides to form "foils" and then gluing or welding on site after laying, that in one operation the Non-woven material layers lying opposite one another overlap to form "foils" and are immediately welded to one another in a force-fitting manner by subsequent pressing together.

The sealing mats shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 consist of the cover layer 1, 1 ', the support layer 2, 2' and the
This needling with the mobile needling device achieves both a non-positive connection of the nonwoven layers 1 and 2 'and a sealing of these nonwoven areas 1 and 2' by bentonite particles which have penetrated into the pore spaces of these nonwoven areas.
5, wie sie in Figur 2 dargestellt sind, erhältAnother possibility in this overlap area to produce a non-positive and watertight connection consists in filling the pore spaces in the nonwoven fabric areas 1 and 2 'with a rot-resistant plastic or plastic-bentonite mixture which is temperature-independent over a wide range of temperatures. One can proceed in such a way that, for example, a sealing mat is sealed on the left longitudinal edge in the lower nonwoven layer 2 and on the right longitudinal edge the upper cover layer 1, so that the sealed
During installation, 4 then forms the part of the sealing mat over which the
When laying the sealing mats which are factory-sealed in the
A further possibility of creating an edge zone in the sealing mats, which can result in a later watertight and non-positive connection in the overlap area, is shown in FIG. 5, in which the nonwoven fabric areas forming the edges have been melted together to form a water-impermeable film. These film areas can then be glued or welded overlapping with another sealing mat of the same type.
Plastic systems which are suitable for filling the pore space of the overlapping nonwoven areas preferably include reaction resin systems, in particular polyurethane and epoxy resin systems, sweat welding pastes, for example based on polybutadiene, aqueous synthetic resin dispersions, for example based on acrylate (Acronal products from BASF) ) as well as heat seal and hot melt adhesive. Similarly, special types of bitumen can be used. Both the abovementioned plastic systems, including the adhesives, and the various types of bitumen are preferably mixed with bentonite, which is particularly true for the polyurethane systems which are mixed with bentonite, preferably in a weight ratio of polyurethane system to bentonite of 1: 1 to 5: 1.
Depending on the degree of viscosity of the plastic or bitumen systems used, which may be filled with bentonite, they either penetrate into the pore spaces by themselves or are pressed in by appropriate pressure rollers or other devices, which at the same time can cause the volume of the nonwovens to be compressed in the overlapping areas.
Similarly, compaction of the nonwoven layers can also be achieved by pressing the overlapping nonwoven regions together by means of heating rollers or other devices to form water-impermeable sheet-like flat structures.
