Description

The invention relates to a brush for applying a makeup product, in particular for applying mascara to eyelashes or a dye on hair, such as include a multitude of hairs trapped in the turns of at least two branches of metallic wire twisted in a helix which form the core of the brush, the bristles being arranged substantially radially. A brush of this type is described, inter alia, in EP-A-0 329 505.

The bristles used for such brushes should be chosen from so that the brush is not too aggressive for the eye sensitive. But it is also necessary that the brush is able to deposit enough makeup product, especially on the lashes.

Currently, the material used for the bristles of the brushes genre defined above is generally constituted by a polyamide. If you want to get a soft, non-aggressive brush for the sensitive eye, we are led to use bristles of diameter reduced, for example by 6 hundredths of a millimeter so that the hairs have great flexibility. But by operating in this way we make appear the drawback that, on the one hand, such a hair of reduced diameter takes the form of a large coil all along the brush and, on the other apart, deposits very little product on the eyelashes. The gap between each strand, of reduced diameter, is small and the makeup obtained with such a brush is very natural whereas, in most cases, one is looking for specific makeup.

The object of the invention is, above all, to provide a brush which does not has more, or to a lesser degree, the drawbacks mentioned above. The object of the invention is, in particular, to provide a brush to the less as soft as that obtained with polyamide bristles of a diameter of 6 hundredths of a millimeter and which makes it possible to make up strongly the eyelashes while having a very soft and non-aggressive contact on the eye, and while ensuring a very thorough separation of the eyelashes.

According to the invention, a brush for applying a product of makeup of the kind defined above is characterized by the fact that it includes bristles made of a soft material of hardness between 20 shores A and 40 shores D, and that the diameter of these hairs is greater than 6 hundredths of a millimeter to avoid excessive great flexibility.

According to a first possibility, all the bristles of the brush are made of a soft material of hardness between 20 shores A and   40 shores D, with a diameter greater than 6 hundredths of a millimeter to avoid too much flexibility.

Alternatively, the bristles of soft material are mixed with other bristles made of different materials, in particular polyamide or polyester, having substantially the same stiffness than soft material bristles. Preferably, the proportion, in number, of soft material hairs is at least 40% of the total number brush bristles. For example, the brush will have 50% bristles of soft elastomeric material, with circular section, with a diameter of 30 hundredths of a millimeter, and 50% cross-section polyamide bristles circular with a diameter of 8 hundredths or 10 hundredths of millimeter.

In practice, the use of soft bristles for brushes was discarded because it was accepted that due to their great flexibility such soft bristles did not allow the product to be spread properly. The invention has overcome this prejudice and thanks to the diameters of soft bristles larger than conventional polyamide bristles, we were able to establish that the brushes thus produced made it possible to obtain a makeup at the desired charge, while presenting greater softer than conventional brushes with polyamide bristles.

In addition, surprisingly and advantageously, when the brush is twisted with minimum torque, with the soft bristles of large diameter of the invention, one obtains an appearance of hairs in "clutter" due to the deformation of their diameter when they are slightly twisted. The spiral effect at the ends of the soft hairs disappears and the tuft is more homogeneous than with bristles polyamide.

The load gap is more regular; because of the diameter important of soft hairs, the number of hairs per turn of the soul is reduced, so that the gap between hairs is larger, which allows to obtain more load at the level of each hair.

The brush preferably comprises from 8 to 40 bristles per turn.

The soft bristles are advantageously made of elastomeric material or thermoplastic.

La matière est choisie, de préférence, parmi l'ensemble des matières suivantes : silicone, EVA = copolymère éthylène/vinyl acétate, polyéther blocamide, élastomère de polyester, EPDM = terpolymère éthylène/propylène/diènes, polyuréthane, SBS = styrène butadiène séquencé, latex, caoutchouc nitrile-butadiène. The material is preferably chosen from among all of the following materials: silicone, EVA = ethylene / vinyl copolymer acetate, polyether blocamide, polyester elastomer, EPDM = ethylene / propylene / dienes terpolymer, polyurethane, SBS = styrene block butadiene, latex, nitrile-butadiene rubber.

The diameter of the soft bristles is preferably between 10 and 35 hundredths of a millimeter.

Advantageously, the metal wire constituting the branches of the core is a soft wire allowing a slight elongation, so as to avoid shearing the hairs during twisting. The diameter of the wire can be between 0.4 and 0.9 mm.

The hairs are preferably full; their section can be square, rectangular flat, triangular or cylindrical. Cylindrical bristles may be hollow. The bristles may have at least one groove capillary.

The invention consists, apart from the arrangements set out above, in a number of other provisions which it will be more explicitly question below about an embodiment particular described with reference to the attached drawing, but which is not in no way limitative.

Figure 1 of this drawing shows schematically, in elevation, a brush according to the invention, with parts torn off.

Figure 2 shows a summary of a hardness test means of the brush.

Figures 3 a to 3 e show , on a large scale, various possible sections for the bristles.

Referring to Figure 1 of the drawing, we can see a brush 1 for the application of a make-up product of liquid consistency to pasty, especially mascara.

The brush includes a multitude of bristles 2 stuck in the turns of two branches 3, 4 of metallic wire twisted in a helix which form the core 5 of the brush. The core 5 is integral with a rod 6 provided, at its end remote from the bristles 2, a cap 7 for the brush handling.

The bristles 2 are arranged substantially radially and are wedged, between the turns, approximately at their median part. In alternatively, the bristles can be offset relative to the core 5.

The bristles 2 are made of a soft material of hardness included between 20 shores A and 40 shores D. The material of the bristles is advantageously an elastomeric or thermoplastic material.

The material retained for the bristles 2 is advantageously chosen among all of the following materials: silicone, EVA = copolymer ethylene / vinyl acetate, polyether blocamide, polyester elastomer,   EPDM = ethylene / propylene / dienes terpolymer, polyurethane, SBS = block butadiene styrene, latex, nitrile-butadiene rubber.

The diameter of the hairs is sufficient to prevent them from becoming too great flexibility. This diameter is advantageously between 10 and 35 hundredths of a millimeter and preferably between 15 and 30 hundredths of millimeter.

The bristles 2 are of solid section, in particular of square shape (FIG. 3 a ), flat rectangular (FIG. 3 b ), triangular (FIG. 3 c ), circular (FIG. 3 d ), or with hollow circular section. The bristles can be used alone or as a mixture.

The bristles may have at least one capillary groove (Figure 3 e ).

Advantageously, the metal wire constituting the branches 3, 4 of the core is a soft wire allowing a slight elongation, so as to reduce the risk of shearing the bristles 2 when torsion. The diameter of the wire constituting the branches 3, 4 is advantageously between 0.4 and 0.9 mm.

As an example of an advantageous metal wire to constitute the brush core we can give that of the Monel type wire in alloy soft stainless steel.

Because the bristles 2 are made of a soft material, and have a relatively large diameter, when the branches 3, 4 are twisted with a minimum torque so as to wedge the bristles, the latter, due to the deformation of their diameter, take on a "clutter" appearance, that is to say that two immediately neighboring hairs will tilt in a different way. With sufficient twist, a generally homogeneous tuft is obtained in which the ends 2 has bristles which are substantially equidistant from each other and regularly distributed throughout the brush. We thus lose the twist effect of the twisted core. The load interstices between the bristles 2 are more evenly distributed throughout the volume occupied by the brush.

The bristles of soft material, preferably of elastomeric material, allow to obtain a bi-oriented deformation either in compression, either in stretching.

When using bristles comprising at least one groove or capillary groove, the phenomenon of relatively dispersed regular bristle ends throughout the brush can still accentuate.

Due to the relatively large diameter of the bristles, the brush does not includes only about eight to forty hairs per turn, so that interstices between hairs are larger than in the case of hairs smaller diameter more numerous per turn. Each hair will take care more in product.

When the brush is wrung, through a wringer (in the form of crown) of reduced internal diameter, the bristles 2, made of soft material, lie down and are therefore less wrung out. In makeup, the "rake" formed by the bristles of the brush, although it is less effective for spread the product on the eyelashes only in the case of a bristle brush more hard, compensates for this negative effect of the fact that the charge in product is stronger.

As a result, the brush allows effective makeup with the advantage of a great softness and a reduction of the danger for the eye since the hairs are soft. Such a brush can be used for a second make-up on an already made-up eye without breaking the deposit of the first make-up, which is interesting for depositing, for for example, on make-up a shiny product.

The use of such a brush is relatively independent of the fluidity of the product to be distributed.

The choice of the number of hairs, the diameter of the hairs, their section and their distribution before twisting, the choice of wire diameter of iron constituting the branches of the core, and of the torque applied to these branches to make the brush will allow to obtain brushes of unequaled softness whose sliding will ensure make-up from the least loaded to the most loaded.

To highlight the flexibility of the bristles of the brushes according to the invention, relative to conventional brushes with polyamide bristles, the following tests were carried out.

Brushes made with different types of bristles, and having identical or similar shapes and sizes have been drawn to through a ring B kept fixed, shown in Figure 2, the diameter of the opening was less than the outside diameter of the brush. The tensile force to be exerted on the brush, to cause its passage through the ring, was measured.

A brush made up of bristles made of elastomeric material, having a diameter of 20 hundredths of a millimeter, required an effort tension, through ring B, characterized by a value equal to 0.06 newton.

For the same brush shape, with polyamide bristles, having a diameter of 8 hundredths of a millimeter, the tensile force for the passage through the ring B was more important and corresponded to a value equal to 0.32 newton.

Finally, for a brush of the same shape but made with polyamide bristles, with a diameter of 10 hundredths of a millimeter, the pulling force required to pass the brush through ring B corresponded to a value equal to 0.48 newton, that is to say eight times greater than that required for a brush made with bristles made of soft material and having a diameter twice as large.

In the embodiment described so far, all of the brush bristles are soft bristles.

Alternatively, the brush may have mixed soft bristles with other bristles made of different materials, for example polyamide or polyester, and having substantially the same rigidity (and therefore substantially the same flexibility) as soft bristles. Of preferably, the proportion, in number, of bristles made of soft material is at least 40% of the total number of brush bristles. For example, the brush may contain 50% bristles of elastomeric material, with cross-section circular, with a diameter of 30 hundredths of a millimeter, and 50% of polyamide bristles with circular section with a diameter of 8 hundredths or of 10 hundredths of a millimeter.

A brush according to the invention has many advantages.

It is not aggressive, especially for sensitive eyes.

It allows less drying of the product if using liquid formulas.

It allows not to remove a makeup product already in place on the eyelashes, if you apply, during a second make-up, a conditioner.

It has a very homogeneous distribution of the ends 2 has bristles all along the brush.

It allows to deposit thick formulas without intervening in the spread on the eyelashes.

One can use, for such a brush, a central core or off-center. You can also use shaped brushes for example triangular, hexagonal, etc., the ends of the bristles can be treated by grinding.

The softness of a brush according to the invention makes it possible no longer feel the hardness of the spin.
