Abstract

The novel separator for settling and/or floating materials, such as for example starch or fats, has to be refilled with fresh water after disposal of the separator contents. To avoid back-contamination from the separator, the fresh-water inlet possesses a free-fall section with a collecting funnel. This funnel, which is not filled during the operation of the separator, constitutes a source of odour. According to the invention, the fresh-water inlet is therefore equipped with a winding odour seal which always remains filled with water and preferably has the shape of a double U or a circular pipe and exhibits a large intake capacity upon admission of fresh water. <IMAGE>

Description

The innovation relates to a separator for sinking and / or floating materials, in particular, however, to a starch or fat separator, as it must be used in commercial kitchens and food processing plants to separate fat and starch.

Such separators, which are designed as a settling basin with essentially horizontal flow, have a fresh water pipe connection for refilling after the contents of the separator have been disposed of, usually in the area of the discharge immersion wall. In order to avoid back-contamination from the separator, it is mandatory to install a free-fall section in the fresh water inlet. The pipe connection then ends open on the outside in the form of a funnel that collects the fill water. The inside of the separator has but then in addition to the prescribed ventilation via the roof, an open exit through which bad smells can escape. The task of eliminating this disadvantage is solved according to the innovation in that the fresh water connection has an odor trap after the free fall section and the collecting funnel. A vertically wound circular pipe, which remains filled up to the top part, or a double U pipe is particularly suitable as an odor trap. These pipes have the property of exerting a lifting effect on the incoming water, so that the amount of swallowing is increased and the filling time is reduced accordingly. Because of the high flow rate of the fill water, a rinsing effect can even be achieved by directing the fresh water jet onto the outlet-side container wall and the outlet diving wall. For this purpose, a guide device is advantageous, which is designed as an open channel with tapered channel branches.

Preferred designs of the innovation are shown in the drawings. In the design according to FIG. 1, the filling connection 1 opens in the vicinity of the outlet diving wall 2. It is designed as a unit with a base plate 4 that can be inserted into the cover 3. The inflow nozzle 6 provided with a closing valve 5 is held above the collecting funnel 8 by a strut 7 fastened to the base plate at the correct free-fall distance 6 '. The circular manual odor trap 11, whose outlet is directed vertically downward, connects to the subsequent manual shut-off valve 9 within the housing 10.

In the design according to FIG. 2/3, the inlet connection 12 opens out in a quarter-arc shape from the side into the outlet-side wall 13 of the separator housing. This bow is already part of itself inside continued double U-bend 14, which still ends above the clear water outlet shaft 15. As can be seen from FIG. 3 (top view in FIG. 2), the outlet of the odor trap 14 is followed by a distribution channel 16 which has two channel branches 17, 19 directed into the corners of the housing and a branch 18 directed towards the discharge baffle 2 contains. The correct division of the flushing jet is achieved by an appropriate inclination of the channel sections.

The alignment of the flushing jet in the outlet-side corners of the housing has the advantage that the flushing water also covers the entire inclined bottom of the separator and flushes it out of suspended matter.
