Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a degassing device for containers intended to contain a product giving off a gas which it is desired to evacuate; it relates in particular to a degassing device for containers intended to contain a viscous liquid releasing by chemical reaction, a gas at low pressure.
  • the object of the present invention is to give a simple, practical and economical solution to this problem and to provide a device which can be easily adapted to containers of different types and different formats.
  • the subject of the invention is a degassing device for a container intended to contain a product giving off a gas, this device comprising a sheath in which a substantially cylindrical part is wedged.
  • This device can be mounted on the container in such a way that the sheath extends towards the interior of the container from a wall in which is formed a discharge orifice.
  • the substantially cylindrical part is closed by a flexible wall located at its end facing said wall of the sheath.
  • At least one of the surfaces chosen from the external curved wall of the substantially cylindrical part and the internal curved wall of the sleeve carries a relief. In this way, a narrow path allowing only the passage of gas is defined between the substantially cylindrical part and the sheath from the end of the sheath which is directed towards the interior of the container up to the discharge orifice.
  • the degassing device according to the invention is particularly intended for the case where the gas-generating product is a viscous liquid, this product being, for example, any chemical product such as a detergent for laundry.
  • the device of the invention as described above can be independent of the container; it can be inserted into a hole provided for this purpose on any wall of the container, for example on the wall of the stopper.
  • the wall of the sheath forming, for example, an integral part of the upper wall of the stopper.
  • the part which is intended to be inserted into the sheath can be made of flexible plastic, for example of low density polyethylene.
  • the sheath can be made of rigid plastic, for example polypropylene.
  • the flexible wall of the substantially cylindrical part is capable of deforming so as to obstruct the discharge orifice when the container undergoes an overpressure.
  • This part can be provided, at its lower end, with wedges which abut on the lower end of the sheath, so that the flexible wall of the substantially cylindrical part is maintained, in the absence of overpressure, at a distance determined from the wall in which the discharge orifice is formed. It is also provided, preferably, at this lower end, with bosses which contribute to its jamming in the sheath.
  • the narrow path allowing only the passage of gas is a serpentine path delimited, on the one hand, by a helical groove formed in the internal curved wall of the sleeve and, on the other hand, by the external curved wall of the substantially cylindrical part.
  • the invention also relates to a container provided with a degassing device as described below.
  • Figs. 1 and 2 represent a threaded plug 1 provided with a degassing device according to the invention, designated under the general reference 2.
  • This rigid plastic plug 1 is intended to be screwed thanks to its thread 3 onto a container, not shown, which it hermetically closes.
  • This container contains a very viscous liquid detergent which continuously gives off, by chemical reaction, gas at low pressure.
  • the degassing device 2 consists of a sheath 4, into which is fitted a part 5 which is described in detail with reference to FIG. 3.
  • the gas which emerges from the detergent contained in the container escapes therefrom through a discharge port 6 of small dimension provided in the upper wall 7 of the plug 1.
  • This orifice 6 is located in the axis of the sleeve 4, which makes integral with the plug 1 and faces the container.
  • a helical groove 8 is formed on the internal curved wall 9 of the sleeve 4.
  • Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the part 5, which is made of low density polyethylene.
  • This part 5, substantially cylindrical in shape, is closed at one of its ends by a flexible wall 10 capable of being deformed under the effect of pressure, in the manner of a membrane (see also FIG. 7 ).
  • this part 5 is housed in the sleeve 4 where it is held by tightening. It can sink into it until the upper end 11 of each of its four wedges 12 abuts against the end 13 of this sleeve 4 which is turned towards the interior of the container.
  • the wedges 12 serve to maintain the flexible wall 10 of the part 5 at a determined distance from the wall 7 in which the discharge orifice 6 is formed.
  • a shoulder 14 is provided near the upper end of the part 5.
  • This part 5 is also, at its lower part, furnished with twelve bosses 15 which consist of longer protrusions, more narrow and less prominent than the wedges 12.
  • Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the degassing device 2, this section passing through two diametrically opposite bosses 15. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, four of these bosses 15 are partially hidden under a wedge 12. The gas which is released from the viscous liquid is introduced into the degassing device 2 between two bosses 15 and the internal wall 9 of the sleeve 4 via a corridor 16 .
  • FIG. 6 makes it possible to understand how the degassing device of the invention works.
  • the gas enters through the passages 16, as shown by the small arrow at the bottom of the figure.
  • a free volume in the form of a serpentine is defined between the external wall of the part 5 and the edges of the thread 17, over the entire path of the helical groove 8.
  • This narrow serpentine route is the only one that gas can take. It can therefore escape from the container only through the corridors 16 which open into this path, which therefore serves as a baffle for the passage of gas. This escapes into the atmosphere through the discharge orifice 6, as indicated by the small arrow at the top of FIG. 6.
  • the container does not necessarily allow any liquid to escape since it remains in the bottom of the container and therefore does not come into contact with the degassing device 2.
  • the liquid comes into contact with the degassing device 2 of the invention. Because of its high viscosity and the great narrowness of the corridors 16 and of the serpentine path provided for the passage of the gas, the liquid will not be able to penetrate there.
  • the container is also subjected to an external force, for example a pressing which causes the walls of the container to deform, the flexible wall 10 of the part 5 deforms, as illustrated in FIG. 7, so as to obstruct the discharge orifice 6. If therefore, by extraordinary means, viscous liquid managed, under the effect of a strong pressure exerted on the container, to enter the narrow path provided for the outlet gas, it could not still exit through this orifice 6.
  • an external force for example a pressing which causes the walls of the container to deform
  • the flexible wall 10 of the part 5 deforms, as illustrated in FIG. 7, so as to obstruct the discharge orifice 6. If therefore, by extraordinary means, viscous liquid managed, under the effect of a strong pressure exerted on the container, to enter the narrow path provided for the outlet gas, it could not still exit through this orifice 6.
  • degassing devices according to the invention could be designed which would not be an integral part of the plug 1, but would consist of independent devices to be inserted and wedged in a hole provided for this purpose on any part of the container. .
  • the route serving as a baffle for the gas outlet does not have the shape of a serpentine, but rather that of braces.
  • the invention can also find a particular application in the automotive sector; the degassing device can indeed be adapted without disadvantage on fuel tank caps.
