Definitions
- the invention relates to an irradiation lamp for increasing the vitamin D3 level of a person.
- Vitamin D3 influences calcium metabolism, cell growth and differentiation, as well as numerous other bodily functions. Recent studies also report a reduction in cancer risk depending on the vitamin D3 level. It is known that a person's vitamin D3 level can be increased by UV radiation. Decades of high-pressure mercury burners were used for this, as were also used for tanning.
- tanning lamps In addition to the high pressure burners, fluorescent lamps working with low pressure have also been used in recent years.
- the UV emission spectrum extends continuously over a range from about 300 nm to over 400 nm.
- a small part of the energy is emitted in the UVB range, which goes from 295 to 315 nm; it is used to create the pigment melanin in the skin.
- the vast majority Part of the energy is released in the UVA range, which ranges from 315 to 400 nm; it serves to darken the melanin produced and thereby bring about the desired tan.
- a fluorescent lamp for tanning purposes which has a combination of two phosphors as the phosphor.
- the first phosphor consists of strontium tetraborate activated with europium.
- the second phosphor consists of strontium cerium magnesium aluminate.
- the mixing ratio is in a range from 40:60 to 60:40.
- the first phosphor produces a more pronounced band above 340 nm.
- the second phosphor generates a second band which extends between approximately 300 and 350 nm.
- the invention has for its object to provide a radiation lamp of the type described above, which leads to a higher vitamin D3 level in the blood of the irradiated person while maintaining the tanning effect.
- a fluorescent lamp with a phosphor mixture which contains a first phosphor for generating a first more pronounced band above 340 nm and a second phosphor for generating a second band below 320 nm, the emission spectrum having a gap that is at least extends between 320 and 340 nm.
- This gap leads to a reduction in the degeneration of vitamin D3 in the blood and therefore to a higher vitamin D3 level, as will be explained later in connection with the figures.
- the erythema effectiveness is reduced, so that longer radiation times for the production of vitamin D3 are possible.
- the tanning effect need not suffer because sufficient UVA radiation in the range above 340 nm can be generated.
- the maximum of the second band should be 4 to 20%, preferably 8 to 10%, of the maximum of the first band so that UVB radiation energy is sufficient for vitamin D3 formation and UVA radiation energy is sufficient for tanning . It is also recommended that the emitted radiation energy of the second band is 1/40 to 1/90, preferably 1/60 to 1/80, of the emitted radiation energy of the first band. A much lower proportion of UVB radiation is sufficient for tanning preparation.
- the second phosphor is adapted to the first phosphor in such a way that the ratio of the radiation energy of the two bands is maintained over an operating time of at least 1000 hours. This requires the selection of a special phosphor, which then makes it possible to maintain the high vitamin D3 production over the entire life of the fluorescent lamp.
- the first phosphor is strontium borate activated with europium and the second phosphor magnesium borate activated with gadolinium.
- the first phosphor is strontium borate, activated with europium
- the second phosphor is strontium magnesium aluminate, activated with cerium. In both cases, the second luminescent materials have the desired low radiation return.
- the amount of the second phosphor should be between 20 and 40% by weight of the phosphor mixture and preferably 25 to 35% by weight of the phosphor mixture. A lower limit is required so that sufficient UVB radiation is emitted. An upper limit is necessary so that UVA radiation is emitted to a sufficient extent.
- the phosphor mixture contains a third phosphor to generate radiation in the orange-red range, that is to say between 590 and 760 nm. This red light stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and therefore activates it. For the user there is a state of equilibrium, which is perceived as normal and eliminates the side effects mentioned.
- Calcium halophosphate and especially yttrium are recommended as the third phosphor.
- the amount of the third phosphor can in particular be 2 to 4% by weight of the phosphor mixture.
- the fluorescent lamp 1 of FIG. 1 has a glass jacket 2, which serves as a filter for unwanted UV radiation below 295 nm. It consists of soda-lime glass with minor traces of iron.
- the jacket has on its inside a phosphor layer 3, which consists of a mixture of three phosphors.
- the interior 4 is provided in the usual way with electrodes, not shown, so that a low-pressure mercury gas discharge can occur in the interior during operation, the radiation of which stimulates the phosphor mixture to emit.
- the phosphor mixture consists of 70% strontium borate, activated with europium, as the first phosphor, 27% magnesium borate, activated with gadolinium, as the second phosphor and 3% calcium halophosphate as the third phosphor.
- the phosphor mixture consists of 70% by weight strontium borate, activated with europium, 27% by weight strontium magnesium aluminate, activated with cerium, and 3% by weight yttrium.
- the radiation energy in the range from 295 to 320 nm was 0.166 mW / cm2 and the radiation energy from 320 nm to 400 nm was 12.61 mW / cm2. This corresponds to a ratio of the radiation energy of 1:76, which also approximately corresponds to the ratio of the radiation energy of the two bands.
- the mixing ratios can be selected such that the radiation intensities shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 result approximately.
- first band 5 which is generated by the first phosphor.
- the maximum is between 365 and 375 nm, preferably around 368 to 370 nm; the foot area begins between 340 and 350 nm and extends to over 400 nm.
- the 50% width is less than 30 nm, in particular only about 20 nm.
- the second band 6 is generated by the second phosphor.
- the maximum is about 315 nm. It begins above 300 nm and ends below 320 nm.
- the width is only about 10 nm.
- the maximum is between 10 and 20% of the maximum of the first band 5.
- the emitted radiation energy of band 6 is only about 1 to 2% of the emitted radiation energy of band 5.
- the third phosphor produces a radiation emission 7 in the orange-red range, here between 600 and 700 nm.
- the radiation energy is balanced with respect to the band 5 in such a way that the user experiences a state of equilibrium which is perceived as pleasant.
- a pre-vitamin D3 can be generated in the epidermis by UV radiation, which passes into the bloodstream as vitamin D3. This creates a certain amount of vitamin D3.
- the action curve A2 shows a degeneration of the vitamin D3 in the bloodstream up to higher wavelengths.
- this antagonism leads to a certain vitamin D3 level in the blood.
- the gap 8 ensures that the degeneration is essentially limited to that part of the spectrum in which vitamin D3 is also produced. Ultimately, this leads to a corresponding increase in the vitamin D3 level in the blood.
- the gap 8 makes it necessary to shift the UVA radiation into the range of longer wavelengths. There, however, as the action curve A3 shows, the erythema effectiveness is reduced. A larger dose of vitamin D3-producing UVB radiation can therefore be applied until the erythema threshold is reached.
- the invention can also be applied to fluorescent lamps with an internal reflector and to those with a smaller diameter (e.g. 16 mm), although there the heat load is greater than with conventional fluorescent lamps. Because the specified phosphors have a high thermal stability.

Description
- Fig. 1
- Fig. 2
