Description

The present invention relates, in installations for processing flat articles which are separated from one another, the systems known as magazines ensuring the supply of the unitary separation members or destackers.

Flat articles are in particular postal envelopes, such as in particular letters of different possible formats, answer cards, magazines.

In known manner, devices for unstacking such articles essentially comprise a magazine for storing articles in a stack and a unstacking head mounted at the end of the magazine. The store comprises means for retaining stacked articles and means for advancing articles towards the head, for supplying the latter with articles which it takes one by one from the stack. The unstacking head can be, for example, a suction cup having a tilting movement, to come into contact with the first article of the stack and to grasp it, and a reciprocating translational movement to drive the article seized out of the store and then release then go back to the pile. During this translational movement of said unstacking head, the stack of articles in the magazine advances for the positioning of the new terminal article to be removed in place of the previous one.

The unstacking head is adapted to the characteristics of the articles presented to it, for their unitary removal, without degradation. Its positioning in front of the stack and / or its tilting movement can be controlled from a format detection and / or presentation of each terminal article to be sampled.

For the storage of the articles and the feeding of the unstacking head, the magazines are on one or more pallets ensuring the retention of the articles and their advance as the unstacking takes place.

Single pallet magazines are used for very homogeneous and thin articles, such as letters.

These stores are less suitable when the items are highly heterogeneous, in particular in size, loading such articles necessitating limiting the length of the charged stack. Whatever the articles, each reloading of the single pallet magazine gives rise to a temporary halt in unstacking and in general of the installation.

To improve the autonomy of the installations, in the postal sorting sector in particular, the stores are most often on multiple pallets. Pallets fragment the stack of articles stored in elementary stacks and allow a larger overall stack to be obtained. They ensure the simultaneous advance along the magazine of the elementary stacks which they hold together. They allow, if desired, the loading of new elementary stacks in the empty spaces between pallets, in general in the part of the store called entry and opposite to that of unstacking, for the maintenance of the overall stack with unstacking.

In these multiple pallet stores, the pallets are coupled to the same drive means for advancing, by pushing the articles, along the store. They are retracted near the unstacking head, to fade in front of the head and allow unstacking continuity from one elementary stack to the next. These pallets retracted and therefore made inactive are recycled out of the store at the entrance where they are again made active.

These stores use an endless conveyor, such as a chain, to advance the pallets along the store and recycle them. Mechanisms associated with the pallets and the conveyor ensure that the pallets are placed and maintained in the active position, along the magazine, and their retraction in front of the unstacking head.

In addition to the significant mechanical complexity of multiple pallet stores, these stores are designed with a given number of pallets, which are distributed over the closed circuit defined by the conveyor, with a fixed or slightly variable spacing between them. The loading of a suitable elementary stack of articles in an empty space between pallets remains inconvenient, particularly when these articles are highly heterogeneous.

This store essentially comprises two zones, one 1 known as the loading and advancing zone for articles to be unstacked and the other 2 known as the pallet storage zone, and has a set of pallets such as 3 which is assigned to it. These pallets 3 are shown, for part of the game, used in zone 1, where they ensure the retention of stacks 4 of articles and the advance of these stacks towards a unstacking head 5. The pallets are for the other part of the game in storage area 2 where they are waiting for use.

The unstacking head 5 is mounted at the end of zone 1 where it defines the unstacking face of the magazine. It ensures the unitary collection of articles from the terminal stack presented to it by zone 1 and ensures the transfer of each article collected to an extraction assembly 6.

The unstacking head 5 is for example constituted by a suction cup; the extraction assembly 6 is for example constituted by a pair of pads 7 clamped on a carriage 8 and by an associated conveyor 9. The extraction assembly 6 is mounted on the rear side of zone 1, for receive the successive articles removed by the head 5. This extraction assembly 6 and the unstacking head 5 are as such known. Not belonging to the present invention, they have simply been shown diagrammatically without their respective commands and are not described in more detail.

Zone 1 is defined by an upper plate 10 or bottom, on which the articles rest on edge, and a rear lateral edge 11. The upper plate 10 is preferably inclined slightly horizontally, from its front lateral edge towards the edge rear, about ten degrees. The angle indicated in figure 1, translates this inclination.

It also includes a driving screw 13 also mounted under the upper plate 10 and ensuring the driving of the pallets used in zone 1, for advancing the stacks of articles towards the unstacking head 5. It is also equipped with a end conveyor 14 mounted through the upper plate 10, flush with its upper face. This conveyor is near the lateral edge 11, and on the only end part of the zone 1, in front of the unstacking head 5.

La zone 2 de stockage des palettes est également équipée pour assurer l'évacuation des palettes successives de la zone 1.Zone 2 for storing pallets is also equipped to evacuate successive pallets from zone 1.

Cette zone 2 est formée sur le bord latéral avant de la partie terminale de la zone 1.This zone 2 is formed on the front lateral edge of the terminal part of zone 1.

Elle s'étend à l'opposé de l'ensemble d'extraction 6.It extends opposite to the extraction assembly 6.

Zone 2 is defined on a support 20, laterally extending the substantially end part of the lower plate 12. This support 20 is preferably directly issued with the plate 12 in one piece.

For the evacuation of each pallet arriving at the end of its travel in zone 1, zone 2 is equipped with a conveyor 21, transverse to zone 1, which is mounted under the front edge of the support 20 and is flush with its upper face . A short guide 22 and another long guide 23 on the support 20 are parallel to its front edge and on either side of the conveyor 21. They receive between them each pallet evacuated from zone 1 for its storage.

A jack 24 ensures the transfer of each pallet discharged by the conveyor 21 against the stock of pallets in this area. It is mounted opposite the end of evacuation stroke defined on the conveyor 21 when the evacuated pallet is released from zone 1. It pushes the pallet concerned transversely to the conveyor 21 and ensures the stacking of the free pallets against each other. other. The stock of free pallets is designated by the reference 25. A 25A square of low height retains the stock 25 of the pallets. The pallets 3 of this stock are thus made available to the operator, for their use, or putting into service, in zone 1, as and when the supply needs of this zone 1 in articles. This pallet stock is produced within reach of the operator, it makes it easy to pick up a pallet to be put into service.

A detector 26 for the end of advance travel of the pallets on the zone 1 controls the drive of the conveyor 21, for the evacuation of the pallet concerned. This detector 26 is mounted at the end of the guide 23, on the side of the zone 1, and is for example a pressure detector sensitive to the arrival of each pallet pressing against it. Another detector 27, similar to the previous one, detects the end of the pallet discharge stroke along the front edge of the support 20. It controls the jack 24. This second detector is at a distance from zone 1 at least equal to the length of the pallets.

This storage and supply store for articles to be unstacked is formed on a chassis 40. This chassis receives a suitable covering as well as zone 2 for storage of unused pallets, the only front side face of which remains open for the removal of stock pallets 25.

In the store, a service tray 41 is advantageously provided at the rear end of zone 1, opposite the unstacking head 5. It receives an initial stock of articles, not shown, from which the batteries are successively removed. of articles loaded in zone 1.

Les piles d'articles glissent le long de cette rive 11.The loading of a pile of articles on the zone 1 is carried out by the operator and is done just behind the piles 4 already constituted, without requiring the stopping of the unstacking in progress if this is the case. The stack to be loaded can be removed in one go with both hands by the operator or in small packages which are then stacked one against the other behind the last pallet in zone 1. The stack removed or the successive packages removed are advantageously jogged on the free part of the upper plate 10, before being placed behind this last pallet. The stack taken or formed is then held by a new terminal pallet, taken from zone 2 and mounted on zone 1 which retains it. The rear edge of the stack of articles loaded in zone 1 is pressed against the rear lateral edge 11 by the operator, before and / or after the battery is retained by its rear pallet. The inclination of the angle a of the plate 10 facilitates and completes the pressing of the stacks of articles against this bank 11 ensuring their jogging. The stacks of articles slide along this bank 11.

This loading of zone 1 is therefore carried out as the unstacking takes place. It is provided with successive stacks which may have, when processing the same initial stock and processing a first initial stock of articles to another, lengths different from each other. These lengths of the piles are adapted to the nature of the articles which they contain.

The pallets 3 are all identical. Each of them essentially comprises two parts, one upper 30 and the other lower 31. The upper part 30 is constituted by a support plate and is thus designated below; it maintains and advances the stack of articles along zone 1. The lower part 31 is constituted by a flat finger and is thus designated below; this finger maintains, guides and drives the pallet, in particular in zone 1 but also in zone 2.

The finger 31 is held on a fixing lug 32, belonging to the support plate 31. It extends under the support plate, being distant from it.

The description of the pallets 3, of the zone 1 for loading and advancing the articles and of the zone 2 for storing the pallets is completed with regard to the following figures.

One or the other of the pallets 3 is described with reference to Figures 2, 4, and 5, in particular.

The support plate 30 is substantially vertical and has been shown in the form of a rectangular trapezoid; its upper and lower edges are substantially horizontal; the lower edge is slightly longer than the upper, but it remains slightly less than the width of zone 1. The vertical edge of the support plate is the rear edge of the pallet, the oblique edge of the support plate is the front edge of the pallet. The edges of the support plate 30 have not been referenced.

The fixing lug 32 extends vertically the front edge of the support plate, below its horizontal lower edge.

Advantageously, a fold 33 substantially between the tab 32 and the support plate 30 gives a slight inclination, towards the rear on the vertical, to the support plate 30. This inclination is indicated by the angle b in the figure. 4 in particular, it is about ten degrees. It allows at least equal inclination of the articles of the stack retained between the pallet considered and the previous one.

The pallet 3 has in the support plate, a long horizontal window 35, open on the rear edge.

This window is at the level of the unstacking head, when the pallet is in zone 1. It allows the unitary removal of a small number of articles from the beginning of a stack by the unstacking head through it, before the evacuation of this pallet. The support plate may also have one or other windows similar to window 35 when the unstacking face at the end of zone 1 is materialized by the unstacking head and other elements, forming a unstacking edge.
The support plate further comprises another window 36 parallel to its front edge and close to this edge. This window 36 facilitates the grip of the pallet by hand.

The flat finger 31 of the pallet is substantially horizontal under the support plate 30 of generally vertical direction, to the inclination b. The fixing lug 32 is centered on the finger at its front end (Figure 5). This finger is shorter than that of the lower edge of the support plate. Its thickness is equal to the spacing between the upper plate 10 and the lower plate 12 of zone 1, as is clearly visible in FIG. 2. Pressed by its upper face under the upper plate 10 and by its lower face on the lower plate 12, it maintains the pallet on the surfaces concerned of these two plates 10 and 12 which serve as guides.

The finger 31 is notched at its rear end opposite to the front end receiving the tab 32. FIG. 5 shows that this rear end of the finger has a substantially central slot inclined relative to the median axis of the finger and two lateral recesses parallel to the aforementioned slot.

This slot and the two recesses have not been referenced; they define two claws 37, of inclination c and of width b, which are on either side of the slot. This inclination c and the width p of these two claws 37 correspond to the inclination c and substantially to the pitch also noted p of the threads 13A of the drive screw 13 mounted under the plate 10 of zone 1 of the magazine. When the pallet is mounted on zone 1 of the magazine, the terminal claws 37 of its finger are inserted between the consecutive threads of the screw 13. They contribute to maintaining the pallet in zone 1 and ensure the motorization of this pallet. along zone 1, produced by this screw.

The finger 31 further comprises a notch 38, transverse to its general direction, under its front end. This notch 38 is used for the evacuation of the pallet from zone 1, when the pallet is detected at the end of its travel in this zone.

It is further noted that the inclination given to the plate 12, as to the plate 10, for which their front lateral edge is higher than their rear lateral edge, favors the retention of each pallet on the zone 1.

The pallet 3 can be in one piece, the fixing lug in this case forming the connecting part between the support plate and the finger.

The zone 1 for loading and advancing the articles is specified with reference to FIG. 6 which represents it viewed along its length, or to FIG. 4 as well as to the right part of FIGS. 2 and 3, which represent its terminal part from which the articles are unstacked.

The lower plate 12 only extends under part of the width of the upper plate 10; the latter presents a extra thickness 10A, or a counter plate, under its front longitudinal edge opposite the lower plate 12.

The drive screw 13 extends over the length of zone 1, under the upper plate 10 and just behind the lower plate 12. It is driven by a mono-reduction unit with clutch-brake 44 which makes it possible to reduce the times response, especially screw stop. This assembly 44 is coupled to the axis of the screw 13 by transmission belts 45; it is mounted under the entrance to zone 1, opposite its unstacking end. A bearing 46 maintains the axis of the screw.

The threads 13A of this screw 13 are very prominent on the body of the screw, for a good grip of the claws of the fingers of the pallets in the hollows that they present between them. They come a short distance from the lower surface of the upper plate 10, to avoid any possible removal of these claws by the space between the top of the threads and this plate 10.

In the terminal unstacking part of zone 1, the conveyor 14 is constituted by two belts. These belts are mounted at the rear of the lower plate 12 and of the screw 13. They are stretched between the same end roller 14 A and the same motor roller 14 B coupled to a motor 47. This conveyor 14 concerns only the single end part of zone 1. It gives the articles a speed of advance slightly higher than that given to them by the screw 13, by means of the pallets 3.

L'occultation du détecteur supérieur 16 commande l'arrêt de l'ensemble 44 de motorisation de la vis, celle du détecteur inférieur 17 commande l'arrêt du moteur 47 du convoyeur 14.Advantageously, two detectors 16 and 17 are mounted on the lateral bank 11, substantially at the end of this bank and in the unstacking plane. They have substantially the same inclination as that of the support plate 30 of the pallets relative to the vertical. These two detectors are used to regulate the advance of the terminal articles to be unstacked, for their optimal presentation in front of the head, foot slightly in front. They control the drive of the screw 13 and the conveyor 14, in the absence of articles in front of them. The concealment of the upper detector 16 controls the stopping of the assembly 44 for driving the screw, that of the lower detector 17 controls the stopping of the motor 47 of the conveyor 14.

In addition, FIG. 3 shows that the long guide 23 used during the evacuation of the pallet arriving at the end of travel ahead of zone 1, also serves as a stop for the finger 31 of this pallet at the end of travel d 'advance; it thus maintains the pallet in this end-of-travel advance position, as long as it is not evacuated from zone 1.

The description of zone 2 is completed with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. The conveyor 21 also consists of an endless belt stretched between a drive pulley 21A and a return pulley 21B. The pulley 21B is substantially under the notch 38 of the finger 31 of the pallet, in the end-of-travel position ahead of the zone 1. The other pulley 21A corresponds substantially to the end of the evacuation travel of the pallet.

Two windows 20 A and 20 B in the support 20, in line with these pulleys, and a groove 20C in the upper face of the support, between the guides 22 and 23 and from one window to another, allow suitable mounting of the belt 21.

This belt 21 has a protruding stop 21C on its outer face. The cleat engages in the notch 38 of the finger for the separation of the pallet from the screw 13 and for its evacuation. The belt 21 is controlled from the detector 26 for its drive and from the detector 27 for its stop.

This second detector 27 is for example mounted on the bracket 25A at the end of the conveyor 21, as shown in FIG. 3.

This same detector 27 controls the jack 24 which pushes the pallet, which has just been stopped at the end of the evacuation stroke, against the stock 25 of pallets already waiting.

A plate 29, attached to the support 20, guides and maintains the pallets transferred against the stock 25. It forms a square which extends distant from the support, above it, to receive between it and the support pallet fingers. It has its folded edge for fixing to the support, edge being at the tip of the finger.

It is noted, with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3, that the short guide 23 for guiding the pallet during evacuation does not hinder the transfer of the pallet concerned against the stock, the lower edge of the support plate of this palette escaping him.

The removal of a pallet from stock is done by simply lifting it over the bracket 25A, provided at a low height, or by direct release of the pallet closest to the operator by the rear lateral edge of the support. 20, opposite the conveyor 21.

This store according to the present invention, with removable pallets and mounted at will on its zone 1 for the maintenance and advance of articles, is particularly suitable for sorting installations for very disparate postal articles, which can in particular be large. formats and more or less heavy. It allows a great autonomy of operation of the installation which it equips, this although the handling of such articles and their characteristics impose to limit consequently the length of the charged batteries.

The store according to this request has been described with reference to the illustrated embodiment; it is obvious that the variant embodiments do not depart from the scope of this invention.
