Description

The apparatus according to the invention proposes to allow the user to easily cut slices from pieces of cold meats such as salamis, various sausages or pieces of bacon, in the context of employment in a household.

Many devices or devices are known for cutting slices from various pieces of food; in particular, US-A-4,756,083 describes an apparatus intended for cutting slices of butter or margarine contained in a hollow tube, using a blade actuated by a trigger; since cutting in butter or margarine requires no significant effort, the angle made by the blade relative to the workpiece is not important, which means that in this case the blade can attack perpendicular to the room; this low value of the force necessary for cutting is further confirmed by the fact that the cutting force is transmitted only by one or two fingers actuating the trigger. GB-A-231 274 relates to a bread slicing machine; given the greater effort required to cut a slice of bread, the angle made by the blade relative to the workpiece is different from 90 °, without any value being indicated in the document; in addition, this machine requires a motor to drive the blade and is quite complicated to use, in particular the thickness adjustment of the slices which is done by unscrewing and screwing back wing nuts.

Other devices exist for cutting slices from pieces of cold meats such as salamis, various sausages or pieces of bacon. All these devices are generally used by professionals in the sector, because they are quite bulky; in being motorized, they are particularly intended for a significant production of wafers. In addition, given their complication, cleaning these devices, essential for working in satisfactory hygienic conditions, is fairly tedious. These characters, as well as the high price of these devices, do not make them particularly suitable for household use. For this use, there is generally only the knife which does not make it possible to make slices as thin as those obtained by a professional appliance and which, moreover, can be dangerous to use.

The apparatus according to the invention, which is defined by the combination of characteristics set out in claim 1, being simple to manufacture, therefore inexpensive, and easy to use, is intended for household use and allows, by its characteristics, to obtain slices of quality equivalent to the quality of those obtained by a more complicated device.

This quality of cut is more particularly obtained by the displacement of a blade which is guided towards the part to be cut, the angle which the edge of this blade forms with respect to the plane supporting the part to be cut being such that the cut is made by scissor effect.

The operation and characteristics of the device will be more particularly explained from the drawing representing various embodiments of the device, where:
  • FIG. 1 is a side view of the device according to a first embodiment,
  • FIG. 2 is a plan view of the apparatus of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 3 is a view on another side of the apparatus of FIG. 1,
  • Figure 4 is a perspective view of the apparatus of the preceding figures, according to an embodiment for left-handers,
  • FIG. 5 is a side view of the device according to another embodiment, and
  • Figure 6 is a plan view of the apparatus of Figure 5.

In Figures 1 to 3 showing a first embodiment of the device according to the invention, it is noted that the device consists mainly of a base 1, a removable template 2 and a movable knife 3 The base 1 comprises a guide rail 10, rectilinear, on which the movable knife 3 comes to rest and is guided during its movement; this rail is terminated towards the front, that is to say on the side directed towards the piece to be cut 4 by a vertical raising 11 whose vertical face 11a directed towards the movable knife 3 serves as a stop for the movement of said movable knife, while the horizontal upper face 11b serves as a support for the removable template 2. The other end of the rail has no stopper, so that it is easy to remove and remove the movable knife 3 from said guide rail, in order to be able to clean these parts . This guide rail is shown here as a projection of the base and forming an integral part of said base, but could just as easily have a completely different shape, it could in particular be attached to the base and be fixed to it by appropriate means or then consist of a rectilinear recess in said base. Depending on the shape and execution of said guide rail, the stopper can be configured other than that described above; it can in particular be directly fixed to the base by appropriate means in a suitable place in order to allow the mobile knife to stop at the end of the stroke or else, in the case where the guide rail is formed by a recess in the base, to be formed simply by the end of this recess towards the workpiece. Opposite the end of the guide rail provided with the elevation 11, at a distance corresponding approximately to the diameter or the width of the largest piece to be cut 4 that it is possible to cut into slices by this apparatus, there is a fixed support 12, integral with the base 1 and comprising a support plate 13, preferably made of metal and inclined at an angle β of about 45 ° relative to the base 1. The horizontal upper face 12b of the fixed support is located substantially at the same height as the horizontal upper face 11b of the elevation 11, and supports the other part of the removable template 2. The length of the fixed support 12 and of the support plate 13 is arbitrary, nevertheless sufficient for provide the necessary support and maintain the workpiece 4 while cutting the slices; the faces 12a of the support piece and 13a of the support plate, parallel to the cutting plane and located near this cutting plane, will be located slightly behind said cutting plane so as not to hinder the movement d advancement of the edge 31 of the blade 30 of the movable knife 3. The cutting plane mentioned above in fact defines two zones on the base 1, the first, identified by the number 14, located behind said cutting plane and of the guide rail 10, is preferably flat and of sufficient width so that the piece to be cut 4 is properly supported, while the second, identified by the number 15, is flat, of sufficient width to collect the cut slices, the plane of its upper surface being slightly lower than that of the face 14, as shown in fig 3, in order to properly collect the cut slices.

The removable template 2 comprises a horizontal upper plate 20, the lower face 20a of which rests on the upper surfaces horizontal 11b and 12b of the elevation 11 and the fixed support 12. Perpendicular to this plate, a second plate 21 is attached to it, which is housed in the space provided between the elevation 11 and the fixed support 12, slightly in back of the section plane mentioned above; this second plate has an opening 22 through which the part to be sliced can slide. The shape and dimensions of this opening 22 are approximately adapted to the shape and the transverse dimensions of the part to be sliced 4. It is thus possible to provide several removable templates, supplied as an option or with the appliance, and suitable for various types of cured meats by the shape and dimensions of the opening 22. The removable template 2 also offers security to the operator, preventing the latter do not slide his fingers in front of the cutting edge 31 of the blade 30 of the movable knife 3. The removable template 2 is fixed to the fixed support 12 as well as to the vertical elevation 11 by appropriate means, not shown here. It is also conceivable that said template is not removable and is fixed permanently on the fixed support 12 and the vertical raising 11; in this case, its opening 22 will be such that it allows the passage of the largest piece that it should be possible to cut with this device.

La face verticale 33a de la pièce intermédiaire 33 viendra buter en fin de course contre la face 11a du rehaussement vertical 11, limitant ainsi le déplacement de la lame mobile 3.The movable knife 3 mainly comprises a metal blade 30, which is terminated by a cutting edge 31; the latter is inclined at an appropriate angle relative to the base 1, so that the cutting of the part to be cut is made by scissor effect, thus allowing a high quality of cutting to be obtained. This angle α is 45 ° maximum, but preferably 42 °. At the end opposite the cutting edge 31, the blade is connected to a handle 32, shaped so as to allow a good grip, by a intermediate piece 33 on which are fixed, by appropriate means, both the blade 30 and the handle 32. The lower part of the intermediate piece 33 comprises a recess 34, particularly visible in FIG. 3, which is of shape adapted to the shape execution of the guide rail 10 in order to slide over said guide rail 10. In this way, the movable blade 3 is firmly guided along the guide rail 10, so that by pushing on the handle 32 according to the X direction, the cutting edge 31 comes to penetrate along a perpendicular cutting plane, into the piece to be cut 4. The vertical face 33a of the intermediate piece 33 will abut at the end of the race against the face 11a of the vertical raising 11, thus limiting the moving the moving blade 3.

According to another embodiment shown in FIG. 4, it is possible, by reversing the arrangement of the various elements constituting the apparatus, to propose an apparatus more specially intended for a more particularly skilled person with the left hand.

For the above embodiments, the base is preferably made of synthetic material; in this case, the guide rail and the fixed support can be an integral part of said base, being molded simultaneously. This base can also be made of wood, the guide rail then being made of synthetic material or metal and being fixed by suitable means to said base. This base may finally be metallic, the guide rails and the fixed support forming an integral part of this base or being attached thereto. The knife blade is metallic, while the intermediate piece and the handle will be made of synthetic material or wood, as will the removable templates.

The preferred form of execution shown in Figures 5 and 6 is specially adapted for an execution in synthetic material obtained by molding. The apparatus mainly consists of a base 4, on which a pivoting jig 5 as well as a thickness control stop for the wafers 6 are mounted and on which the movable knife 7 is guided towards the workpiece 8. The base 4 consists mainly of a base plate 40, of any shape, but providing a secure support for the device, a vertical raising 41, as well as a fixed support 42 supporting a support plate 43 and a vertical support 44, these various constituents being made of synthetic material, molded in one piece. A rectilinear groove 45 is provided in the base plate 40 in which the lower part 70a of the support 70 of the movable knife 7 slides longitudinally; this groove 45 which can be terminated towards the rear by a stop 45a serving to retain the lower part 70a of the movable knife 7; guiding the movable knife 7 is additionally provided by the raising 41, in which a vertical slot 41a is hollowed out. The support 70 of the movable knife 7 has another stop 70b which, when it comes to bear against the front face 41b of the raising 41, limits the advance of the movable knife 7 towards the front. Thus, the movable knife 7 is perfectly guided by the longitudinal groove 45, between the two stops 45a and 70b, being held in a vertical plane by the slot 41a. It is easy when it is desired to dismantle the system for cleaning, to remove the movable knife 7 from its guide system by extracting it by an upward pull of the handle 71 formed in one piece of synthetic material with the support 70 , to release it from the groove 45, then backwards to release it from the slot 41a; reassembly is also easy by reversing the operations. As previously, the angle β made by the support plate 43 with the base plate 40 is approximately 45 °, while the angle α made by the cutting edge 72a of the metal blade 72 with the base plate 40 is of the order of 42 °, the difference between these two angles providing the chisel effect necessary for good cutting of the slices. The vertical support 44 comprises a vertical slot 44a in which is housed an axis 50 of the pivoting jig 5. This consists of a blade 51, comprising an opening of semicircular shape 52. By rotation of the blade 51 around of the axis 50, the opening 52 easily adapts to all the diameters of the parts to be cut 8 which can be introduced into the apparatus, as shown in FIG. 5, this template also functioning as protection against untimely cuts. The device is completed with a thickness control stop for the edges 6, it is also made of synthetic material, consisting of a rod 60, terminated at its rear end with a recess 60a and slipping into a groove of bottom 45b hollowed out in the guide groove 45; this bottom groove 45b is narrower in width than the guide groove 45 in order to leave a sufficient guide surface for the lower part 70a of the support 70 of the movable knife 7. The rod 60 is held in the bottom groove 45b by the recess 60a coming to slide under the part 45c of the groove 45 and a stop 60b pressing against a bushing 45d disposed across the bottom groove 45b. The front part of the rod 60 has an inclined vertical part 61 supporting a toothing. A second clamp-shaped piece 62 encloses the vertical part 61, a toothing coming to interconnect with the preceding toothing; by acting on a lever 62a, by pushing it forwards or backwards, the vertical abutment surface 62b, forming part of the clamp 62, moving it closer or further away from the cutting surface, which makes it possible to adjust the thickness of the slice to be cut when the piece to be cut is pressed 8 against the vertical abutment surface 62b. This is possible thanks to the inclination given to the vertical part 61. So that this thickness control stop for the edges 6 does not hinder the passage of the blade 72 of the movable knife 7, the rod 60 is further provided with a boss 60C which, when passing the lower part 70a of the movable knife 7, causes the front part of the rod 60 to bend downwards, thus retracting the vertical part 61 as well as the clamp 62 with its vertical stop 62c. In this way, when the movable blade 7 is withdrawn back by the handle 71, the boss 60c is released, and the part to be cut 8 can be pressed against the vertical stop 62c which is in the high position; by advancing the movable blade 7, the boss 60 sinks, retracting the vertical stop 62c, leaving the passage of the blade 72 free.

The use of this device is extremely easy: after having placed the part to be cut on the base plate and having pressed it against the support plate, the user rotates the template so that its opening rests on the part to be slice, so that it can slide freely through the opening of the template, without the free space between the part to be cut and this opening being too large, so that the protection against inadvertent cuts is effective, then it adjust the desired thickness of the slices by moving the clamp of the thickness control stop; it will then suffice to push the handle towards the piece of cold cuts in order to slice the latter, until the movement is blocked by the stopper. After removing the handle back and manually advances the cold cuts against the thickness control stop, all that remains is to start the operation again until the desired number of slices is reached. The cleaning of the device after use is extremely easy, since it suffices to remove the pivoting jig, as well as the movable knife and the thickness control stop to have four parts of relatively simple shapes which are easy to remove. clean.

It is obvious that this device is suitable for cutting or slicing all kinds of pieces of cold cuts, vegetables or the like, the shape and dimensions of which are adapted to the possibilities of the device.

We therefore obtained an economical device, simple to use, providing slices of quality equivalent to that obtained by devices much more expensive, and thus easily usable in a household.
