Abstract

The invention relates to a machine for binding packages (P) with a binding medium (26) which can be drawn off from a stock roll, in which machine the package (P), as a result of being pushed forward on a packaging conveying path (4) projects against a cord (S) stretched transversely to the direction of advance (x) from the feed end to a gripper (27), this cord extending from the gripper (27), arranged below the conveying path (4) and adjacent to a closure device (28), to a binding medium guide member which can be moved from a vertical position above the top of the package into a vertical position below the conveying path (4); in order to achieve an optimum solution, particularly from the point of view of application technology, it proposes that the binding medium guide member is designed as an arm (21), extending transversely into the region of the conveying path (4), of a support (19) which is moved up and down to the side of the conveying path (4) and, in the low position of the support (19), dips into a trough (17) of the conveying path (4) which is formed by deflection points and is open at the top. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a machine for strapping packages according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such a machine is known from EP-PS 178 385, wherein after the strapping means guide member has been displaced into the height above the top of the package, the free-stretched tendon is present, which is pulled out as the package passes. After the tying has ended, the tying means guide member always returns to its starting position. This means that each package passing through the machine is provided with a strapping that runs in the feed movement. With such a machine, tight straps can be produced because of the repeated protruding of the strapping means.

The invention is based on the object of designing a machine of the type in question in a technically simple manner so that the area of use is increased.

This object is achieved by the invention specified in claim 1.

The subclaims represent advantageous developments of patent claim 1.

As a result of such a configuration, the area of application of a generic machine is increased. The packages passing through the machine can optionally be tied. Nevertheless, the advantageous mode of operation of the machine is not abandoned. The means that the corresponding straps are always tight. If no strapping is to be provided on a package, the carrier moving up and down to the side of the conveying path moves into its down position connected with the fact that the strapping means guide member moves from the height above the top of the package to the height below the conveying path and thereby immersed in the upwardly open trough of the conveyor line formed by the deflection position. There is then no free-stretched chord above the conveyor line, so that the package passes the conveyor line without being tied. This is primarily the case if the packages are stacks of newspapers with only a few newspapers. As a rule, stacks of newspapers are tied with a cross. One constriction is in the machine according to the invention and the other z. B. generated in a ring machine. This means that a newspaper stack consisting of only a few newspapers receives only the strapping within the ring machine because there is no protrusion there, but the strapping means is wrapped around the package by a strapping ring. If, on the other hand, the strapping is required within the machines according to the invention, the carrier moves into its high position, so that the arm of the strapping means guide member reaching transversely into the region of the conveying path then moves to the height above the top of the package. As a result, the free-stretched tendon is again present between the gripper and the strapping means guide member, so that when the next package is passed, the package is then turned out and subsequently strapped. The machine obtains a high strapping performance in terms of strapping per unit time due to the fact that the carrier and the deflection points of the Conveyor line sit on a common carriage moving back and forth in the direction of movement of the package. This carriage also accommodates the gripper and the locking device. The package therefore does not have to be stopped during its passage through the machine, even if the sealing process takes place. If the lead of the carriage starts before the second insertion of the strapping means, since both movements are in the direction of transport, a smooth transition with regard to the strapping can be created while protecting the rear corner of the package. However, the speeds are such that that of the plunger, which turns the strapping means backwards in the direction of the closing device, is greater than the throughput speed of the package. A trouble-free workflow is ensured by the fact that the conveyor section consists of two parallel belt drives, which leave a gap for the passage of the plunger, which plugs in from the rear in the direction of the closure device. The plunger works within this gap and therefore cannot collide with the belt drive, namely at the level of the trough. The deflection points forming these can be designed as free-floating rollers, which results in the aforementioned gap.

  • 2 is a partial plan view of the machine in the region of the arm which forms the strapping means guide member and which extends into the region of the conveyor path,
  • 3 is a side view of the conveyor line in the region of the trough with the arm immersed in it,

The machine for strapping packages P has a frame-like machine frame 1. The latter has two parallel guide rails 2, on which a frame-shaped carriage 3 can be moved back and forth. The guide rails 2 run in the direction of package travel x. The package conveyor section 4 is formed by two parallel belt drives 5, 6, which leave a gap 7 between them at the level of the tying plane y-y.

The belt drives 5, 6 have rollers 8, 9 mounted on the inlet and outlet sides of the machine frame 1. Then, at least for the belt drive 5, carriage-side deflection rollers 10, 11, 12 and 13, 14, 15, 16 are provided. The deflecting rollers 10, 11, 12 are assigned to the leading strand and the remaining deflecting rollers 13, 14, 15, 16 to the returning strand. The aforementioned deflection rollers 10 - 16 have a free-floating bearing. The correspond de bearing is located on the part of the carriage 3 opposite the gap 7 and is not illustrated in detail. The deflecting rollers 10, 11, 12 form a trough 17 which is open at the top on the package conveyor section 4 and which moves with the carriage 3 moving back and forth.

Furthermore, the carriage 3 receives two vertically aligned and parallel guide rods 18, which project laterally beyond the package conveyor section 4 and on which a carrier 19 can be displaced. The piston rod 20 of a lifting cylinder (not shown) acts on the carrier 19. A horizontally oriented arm 21 extending transversely to the conveyor path 4 extends from the carrier 19 which can be moved up and down to the side of the conveyor path 4. At the end of the same there is a deflection roller 22, the axis of which extends in the package conveying direction. The arm is then provided at the end with a downwardly extending arm 23. At the end, this supports a deflection roller 24, the axis of which runs at an acute angle to the package conveying direction x. In the exemplary embodiment, the angle between the axis of the deflection roller 24 and the package movement direction is approximately 45 °. The boom 23 also receives a further deflection roller 25. Their axis is slightly above that of the deflection roller 24. The axis of this deflection roller 25 extends transversely to the package conveying direction. The strapping means 26 drawn off from a strapping means supply roll (not illustrated) runs along the arm 21 and wraps around the deflecting roller 22. From there, the strapping means 26 is wrapped around the deflecting roller 24 which is at an angle to the package conveying direction. Subsequently, the strapping means 26 wraps around the deflection roller 25, in order from there to be arranged as a freely stretched chord S according to FIG. 1 to a below the conveyor section 4 Gripper 27 to run. The latter is a component of a closure device 28 illustrated by a dot-dash line. The gripper 27 is designed like a finger and can be moved up and down. Together with the gripper 27 acts a roller 29 arranged in the tying plane yy, which is seated on a plunger 30 controlled by the closure device 28.

In opposition to the gripper 27, an upper pressure jaw 31 is assigned, which interacts with a heating plate 32 and a lower pressure jaw 33. Furthermore, the pressure jaw is also assigned a holding clamp 34 for the strapping means 26.

The following mode of action occurs: According to FIG. 1, the machine is in its starting position. The strapping means end 26 'is held by the gripper 27 and runs from there via the deflection rollers 25, 24, 22 to the arm 21 forming the strapping means guide member 21. There is then a free-stretched tendon S. Furthermore, in this position, the pressure jaw 31, the heating plate 32, the lower pressure jaw 33 and the holding clamp 34 are in the displaced position. This means that they do not extend in the tying plane yy. Furthermore, the carriage 3 has been moved towards the inlet end of the machine by means not shown. If a package P is now fed in the direction of movement x, this leads to an expansion of the free-stretched tendon S according to FIG. 4. FIG. 5 illustrates that the gripper 27 has moved in the upward direction, while the upper pressure jaw 31 and the holding clamp 34 are controlled and the strapping means end facing 26 'capture and clamp it. The gripper 27 in turn then opens. At the same time with during this process, the carrier 19 has moved its arm 21 in the downward direction and pulls the strapping means 26 over the upper right corner of the package P, as seen in the conveying direction. In its lowered position, the arm 21 plunges into the trough 17 of the package conveyor section 4 formed by the deflection points. As a result of the deflection roller 24 mounted at an acute angle to the package movement direction x, only the strapping middle section facing the back of the package extends in the strapping plane yy.

The next movement step is that the opened gripper 27 travels in the downward direction to achieve the position shown in FIG. 6, the end of the strapping means 26 having left the gripper 27.

Fig. 10. Controlled by the closure device, the plunger 30 with the roller 29 then comes forward to achieve a further indented section of the strapping means, cf. Fig. 10. In this case, the roller 29 only detects the middle section of the strapping which runs in the strapping plane y-y. Simultaneously with the onset of the movement of the plunger 30 or shifted in time therefrom, the carriage 3 sets in motion in the package conveying direction x, so that the package P then does not come to a standstill in the subsequent closing process. Furthermore, the gripper 27 moves to the other side of the pressure jaw 31 during this process and closes, as a result of which the strapping means is held at two points in the region of the connection point.

Fig. 9. The next work step shown in FIG. 8 now follows. This consists in the closed gripper 27 traveling in the upward direction. Then the lower pressure jaw 33 and the heating plate 32 advance. The corresponding strapping sections are heated. Thereafter, the heating plate 32 moves back and the lower pressure jaw 33 in the upward direction, the corresponding strapping means sections being welded. After a short cooling time, the gripper 27 moves downward. At the same time, the strapping means 26 is pulled over the knife edge 35 that is adjacent to the lower pressure jaw 33, severing the strapping means 26. The end of the strapping means then present is held exclusively by the gripper 27, cf. Fig. 9. The lower pressure jaw 33 now opens and the upper and lower pressure jaws move back out of the tying level, so that the package P is conveyed on without stopping. From Fig. 9 it can be seen that the gripper gap 36 is horizontal. Now the gripper 27 moves back to the other side of the upper pressure jaw 31 and thereby rotates through 360 °, while the carrier 19 with the arm 21 moves up again, reaching the starting position according to FIG. 1. The rotary movement of the gripper 27 is such that no strapping agent is wound on it. The gripper gap 36 has thus rotated through 360 ° during its back and forth movement.

Then, after the package has been released, the carriage 3 has also returned to its starting position according to FIG. 1.

However, it may be desirable that the following package P 'should not have any strapping in the machine. The carrier 19 then remains in its low position after the strapping of the package P which has passed through last. This means that the arm 21 is located in the trough 17 of the package conveyor section 4 and therefore not in the path of movement of the package P ' lies. There is therefore no protrusion of a strapping tendon. Depending on the number of packages not to be re-crimped, the carrier 19 remains with its arm in its low position and only returns to its upper position when packages are to be tied again, so that after a corresponding upward displacement of the carrier with arm, the position in accordance with FIG 1 is present.

All the new features mentioned in the description and shown in the drawing are essential to the invention, even if they are not expressly claimed in the claims.
