Definitions

  • the invention relates to a display device for alpha-numerical displays with a display panel in which a switched-on light source illuminates a bundle of optical fibers, in which a switching element which can be controlled via a control line is inserted into each light path leading via an optical fiber to a display element of a coordinate point, with which the associated light path can be optionally enabled or blocked, in which each coordinate point of the display panel comprises n light paths, in which the optical fibers are combined into bundles and illuminated by separate light sources, and in which the control lines of the switching elements can be controlled by means of a control unit in order to have an n display colored alphanumeric display, in the latter case the light sources or the optical fibers are arranged downstream of filters.
  • a display device of this type is identified as known by EP 0 109 328 A1.
  • an optical fiber or a small group of, for example, three or four combined to form a light exit point leads to each coordinate point of the display
  • Optical fibers that can be illuminated on the input side by several light sources. In this way, only one display element is obtained at each coordinate point.
  • a disk having at least one hole is provided for each coordinate point and can be rotated to enable or shield the single light exit point.
  • the holes in the disc can be provided with different color filters. Since the coordinate point for emitting the light, which may be formed by a plurality of optical fibers and has only one display element, can only be released or shielded in this way, the possible variations of the display are restricted.
  • DE-OS 28 31 174 shows a further display device in which all display elements are combined to form a permanently illuminated optical fiber bundle.
  • the switching elements switched on in each light path can be controlled individually, so that any alpha-numeric display can be triggered by their control, the resolution of the display panel in the display elements alone limiting the display options.
  • only one display in one color is possible at any one time, and the display can include several partial images. This only depends on the activated switching elements and the display elements released thereby.
  • each coordinate point has n display elements that the Display elements are arranged in n nested matrices, that the bundles of optical fibers are each assigned to a matrix, and that the control lines are controlled individually for the matrix, so that n alpha-numerical displays can also be displayed at the same time.
  • the number of matrices determines the number of colors in a display.
  • n displays can also be displayed independently of one another on the display board, if only specific subareas of the display board are assigned for this purpose by activating the switching elements.
  • an embodiment is advantageous, which is characterized in that a partial control circuit is assigned to each matrix of the switching elements, by means of which each switching element of the matrix can be individually controlled, and that the partial control circuits can be controlled by the control unit in accordance with the desired displays or partial displays are.
  • control commands for the control unit are contained in a programmable memory, then the most varied of displays can be predetermined and, if necessary, called up and displayed.
  • an embodiment is advantageous, which is characterized in that the memory via Long-distance lines can be controlled, and that control commands for new and / or additional displays can be transmitted in the memory. Then the only procedure to be followed is that the displays can be triggered via display-specific display commands that can be fed to the control unit.
  • the optional release or blocking of an optical path can be carried out by arranging the switching elements in the optical fibers or at at least one end thereof and changing the wavelength of the waves radiated into the optical fibers.
  • the structural design of the display panel is carried out in such a way that the display panel has a display plate with a number of light exit cones corresponding to the number of matrices and the number of display elements and a support plate with a corresponding number of bores for receiving the ends of the optical fibers and one each Control tube with a switching element, each of which connects a bore of the support plate with the associated light exit cone of the display plate.
  • the switching elements can also be designed as a rotatably mounted flap which can be actuated electrically by means of a coil. Training as a filter for the light waves is also possible. The transmission characteristics of the filter can be changed magnetically, electrically or thermally. Switching elements designed as liquid crystals are particularly suitable for this purpose.
  • the display can be displayed on the display panel 12 by selection or combinations of individual display elements.
  • the display panel 12 has two nested matrices of display elements 23.
  • the display elements 23 assigned to the first matrix are illuminated by a first optical fiber bundle 25, specifically via the filter 24 from the light source 20, which is designed as a halogen lamp.
  • the optical fibers of this optical fiber bundle 25 are guided, for example, to all display elements 23 of the odd-numbered lines of the display panel 12.
  • the optical fibers 14, 16 and 18 of the optical fiber bundle 26 are then guided to all the display elements 23 of the even-numbered rows of the display panel 12.
  • the light source 22 is responsible for illuminating the second optical fiber bundle 26.
  • the control unit 27 controls the switching elements accommodated in the display panel 12 via lines 28 which lead to the switching elements, as will be shown.
  • the display panel 12 can display two-color displays.
  • the end of the optical fiber bundle 25 shown in FIG. 2 is received by the mount 30 and can be covered by a filter clamping bush 33.
  • This filter clamping bush 33 receives a color filter 31 and a heat protection filter 32. In this way, the color filter 31 is held directly in front of the light entry surface of the optical fiber bundle 25.
  • Fig. 1 can also be seen in connection with Figs. 3 and 4 that the display panel 12 has an end display plate 41 and a rear holding plate 40, the ends of the optical fibers 14 in the bores 52 and 54 with one between each Display plate 41 and the holding plate 40 arranged control tube 42 can be connected.
  • the control tube 42 receives the switching element 43 or 43 '.
  • the means 43 is designed as a filter for electromagnetic waves, the transmission characteristic is thermal, magnetic or electrical is changeable. It is particularly expedient to design the switching element 43 as a liquid crystal.
  • the electromagnetic wave passing through the optical fiber 14 has the wavelength ⁇ 1, while the wave emitted from the exit cone 44 has a wavelength ⁇ 2.
  • the switching element 43 ' consists of a pivotable about an axis of rotation 61 flap 60.
  • the switching element 43' is controllable by a magnetic field which is generated by the coil 50, which can be controlled by the control unit 27.
  • Fig. 5 shows a circuit diagram for a display panel 12 with four nested matrices M1 to M4. Each coordinate point 21 of the display panel 12 has four display elements and thus also four switching elements 43.1 to 43.4.
  • the small switching elements of the matrices M1 to M4 can be controlled individually via partial control circuits 27.1 to 27.4, so that each partial control circuit must have small control lines to the assigned switching elements. In this way, each matrix M1 to M4 can be controlled individually. Coordinate control of the switching elements is not possible, since depending on the display, several switching elements of different rows and columns are also controlled Need to become.
  • the control unit 27 can call up various control commands from the programmable memory 29 if it is controlled for a specific display and forwards them to the switching elements of the matrices M1 to M4 via the partial control circuits 27.1 to 27.4.
  • each coordinate point 21 of the display panel 12 can be controlled via each matrix M1 to M4, a display device is created which enables displays of up to four colors to be displayed. Of course, there is also the option of using fewer colors for the display. This depends solely on the control commands stored in memory 29 for a particular display. Any matrices can be used for a display.
  • the control unit 27, in conjunction with the programmable memory 29, gives the greatest possible variation.
  • the display is only limited by the resolution, which is given by the display elements 23 accommodated in a coordinate point 21 and the number of coordinate points kl on the display panel 12.
