Description

Many utensils or tools used in everyday life consist of two elements linked together by a pivot, these two elements thus forming a variable angle compass. This configuration is encountered, for example, in double ladders with two climb planes or with a climb plan and a support plane.

When the angle formed by the two elements has been adjusted to the desired opening, it is essential to make it non-deformable at least during the period of use.

Des exemples d'éléments de ce type sont décrits dans les brevets FR-A-2391349, GB-A-887733, US-A-4524847, DE-A-3104981 et US-A-3912043.It is known to keep the two elements in their chosen relative position, by connecting them by a connecting bar, articulated at one end on one of the elements, the other end generally being shaped as a hook, capable of overlapping a part. male attached to the other element. When the two elements are braced by the connecting bar, the angle they form cannot be varied. Examples of elements of this type are described in patents FR-A-2391349, GB-A-887733, US-A-4524847, DE-A-3104981 and US-A-3912043.

To avoid accidental disconnection of the bar and the male part, it is known to use various locking means, such as a comma-shaped lock, pivotally mounted and passing under the male part, or a screw and a nut. with ears or a special bayonet cutout. But all these means have several defects, such as a notorious lack of aesthetics, a relatively high cost, difficult implementation, a lack of reliability and rigidity, etc.

The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to this end relates to a connecting device intended to make the angle formed by two elements connected by a pivot undeformable, said device being characterized in that said connecting bar is provided with its free end of a transverse notch allowing the attachment of the bar on a male part projecting from the other element, and in that on the connecting bar is mounted a slide having at one of its ends a notch which, when the slide is moved towards the free end of the bar, comes into engagement with said male part, thus preventing the bar from being raised.

According to a first particular embodiment, said notch is constituted by a notch which extends in the direction perpendicular to the notch of the connecting bar.

In a second embodiment, the slider has a cutout over the entire upper part of its end, and has a spout at the lower part of said end which, when the slider is in its locked position, opposes movement towards the top of the link bar.

The movement of the slide is limited by any appropriate stop means. According to a particular embodiment, the slide is pierced with an elongated light extending in the longitudinal direction and in which is included a projecting element integral with the connecting bar, for example a screw, a bolt, a rivet or a boss obtained by deformation of the material of the bar.

To avoid an unexpected return of the slide, it can present at the entry of its notch at least one redent which constitutes a resistant passage point on the male part.

  • La figure 1 est une vue en élévation représentant une échelle double munie d'un dispositif de liaison, en position verrouillée;
  • La figure 2 représente à plus grande échelle et en perspective, le dispositif de liaison en position déverrouillée;
  • La figure 3 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne III-III de la figure 1;
A particular embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is an elevational view showing a double ladder provided with a connecting device, in the locked position;
  • Figure 2 shows on a larger scale and in perspective, the connecting device in the unlocked position;
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view along line III-III of Figure 1;
  • Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 and showing another alternative embodiment of the slide; and
  • Figure 5 is an elevational view of another alternative embodiment of the slide.

The description which follows will be made with regard to a double scale, but it goes without saying that it applies without modification to any tool or utensil formed from two elements articulated together by a pivot and which we want to make indeformable l 'opening angle.

The double ladder comprises two planes 10, 12 articulated at their upper end by a pivot 14. To immobilize the two planes in their chosen opening angle, use is made in a manner known per se, of a connecting bar 16 articulated at 18, by one end, on one of the planes.

The link bar is shown in Figure 2 as a flat strip, but it can have any other shape of section, for example square or round.

On its lower edge and in the vicinity of its free end, the connecting bar is provided with a notch 20 with a concavity facing downwards. Once the planes open at their normal angle of use, they are immobilized by lowering the connecting bar so that the notch 20 hooks onto a male part 22 fixed on the other element 12. As shown in FIG. 3 , the male part 22 can be formed by a rivet fixed in the wall thickness of the upright 12, but it can also be formed by any equivalent mechanical means.

According to the invention, on the connecting bar is fitted a tubular slide 24 of the same inner section as the bar. The slide is notched at the end of its two parallel walls which are in contact with the flat faces of the bar, on the side of the notch 20, of notches 26 extending in the longitudinal direction of the connecting bar. When the slide is pushed to the right in FIG. 2, the notches 20 and 26 intersect, defining between them a passage of section slightly greater than that of the rivet 22.

To secure the planes 10, 12 together, the bar 16 is hooked onto the rivet, then the slide 24 is slid to the right in FIG. 2 until its notches 26 grip the rivet. The link bar can no longer be raised accidentally. To disconnect the planes 10, 12, we first move the slide to the left in Figure 1, then lift the link bar. The two planes can then be folded over each other.

The stroke of the slider is limited by a piece 28 integral with the connecting bar and which projects through an elongated opening 30 pierced in the slider.

Ce dernier s'oppose au mouvement vers le haut de la barre de liaison 16.The slide of Figure 4 differs from that of Figure 2 by the fact that it has at its end near the notch 20, over its entire upper part, a cutout 38 which defines on the lower part of the slide a beak 40. It is clear that when the slide is in its locked position, the male part is both in the notch 20 and in abutment in the angle formed between the cutout 38 and the spout 40. The latter is opposed to the upward movement of the connecting bar 16.

In the embodiment shown in Figure 5, the slide 24 has at the entrance of its notches 26 one or two notches 32 which slightly narrow the width of said notches. To pass the redents on the rivet 22, the slide must be slightly forced. Accidental return of the slide to its unlocked position is absolutely impossible.

De tels reliefs peuvent également être formés sur les coulisseaux des figures 2 et 4.As shown in Figure 4, the slider can integrate on its outer wall reliefs 34 which allow a good grip and facilitate the movement of the slider on the connecting bar. Such reliefs can also be formed on the slides of FIGS. 2 and 4.
