Definitions

  • the invention relates to a coaxial filter cigarette of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1.
  • coaxial smokable articles in particular coaxial cigars or cigarettes with an inner core which is surrounded by a jacket made of tobacco material.
  • the basic principle of such a coaxial cigarette is known for example from FR-PS 998 556, the inner core consisting of a tobacco of lower quality, which is surrounded by an annular jacket made of tobacco of high quality. This allows savings to be made in terms of the cost of the tobacco materials used.
  • a coaxial filter cigarette of the type specified is finally described in the not previously published German patent application P 37 43 597.3-23 dated December 22, 1987 and has a strand part and a filter part; the strand part contains an inner core made of a largely residue-free smoldering material, in particular tobacco material, a covering for the inner core, an outer casing made of a tobacco and / or non-tobacco material coaxially surrounding the inner core or its casing, and a casing for the outer casing.
  • the filter part has a filter core, an air-impermeable covering for the filter core, a filter jacket and a covering for the filter jacket.
  • the basic principle of this coaxial filter cigarette is that two areas are distinguished in the radial direction, namely the zone of the main heat source on the one hand and the zone in which the major part of the aerosol entering the smoker's mouth is generated.
  • the heat generation zone is in the outer jacket and the aerosol generation zone is in the inner core of the strand part.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a coaxial filter cigarette of the type specified, in which the disadvantages mentioned above do not occur.
  • a coaxial filter cigarette is to be proposed, the smoke that enters the smoker's mouth has a high proportion of taste-relevant components and a very low proportion of undesirable combustion products; At the same time, the secondary smoke on the one hand and the inflammation potential on the other hand are to be reduced in comparison with conventional cigarettes.
  • the advantages achieved with the invention are based on the fact that in a coaxial strand the zone of the main heat source on the one hand and the zone on the other hand, in which the major part of the aerosol entering the smoker's mouth is generated, are spatially separated.
  • the aerosol is generated in the outer jacket and the heat in the inner core of the strand part of the cigarette.
  • Both the strand part and the subsequent filter part that is to say the materials used here in connection with their fluidically important specifications, are designed in such a way that the flows in the outer jacket and in the core are largely separated.
  • the filter part is constructed in such a way that the smoke particles originating from the inner core of the strand part are largely reduced, at least to 95%, while the aerosol generated in the outer jacket of the strand part is reduced only slightly or not at all, namely only to 0 to 60 % is reduced.
  • the secondary smoke can be largely reduced by relatively simple constructive measures, since the combustion products are shielded by the outer jacket of the strand part and are therefore largely emitted via the main smoke.
  • a relatively simple, coaxial filter element with a suitable covering and an associated covering paper can be used.
  • the covering paper can be impermeable to air, naturally porous and / or provided with a ventilation zone, which is preferably generated by laser beams and runs in the circumferential direction of the filter part.
  • the wrapping paper of the single filter element must also be porous. In all other cases, the wrapping paper can have any configuration.
  • the diffusion and ventilation element or the channel filter element serves to reduce the gas components caused by the combustion taking place in the inner core of the strand part, while the filter element combined therewith intercepts the smoke particles originating from the inner core of the strand part and those in the outer jacket of the strand part resulting aerosols are practically not affected.
  • the coaxial filter cigarette shown in FIG. 1, generally indicated by the reference numeral 10, has a strand part 12 to which a coaxial filter part 13 is attached with the usual manufacturing techniques.
  • the strand part 12 contains an inner core 14 with a covering 16 and an outer jacket 18 with a covering 20.
  • the filter part 13 has a single coaxial filter element 15 consisting of a filter core 22 with a covering 24 and a filter jacket 26 with a covering 28.
  • the coaxial filter element 15 can be ventilated, as will be explained later; the ventilation means is indicated as a line of punctiform ventilation openings 30, which also extend through the circumference of the coaxial filter element 15 through the covering paper, not shown.
  • the coaxial strand part is used to generate smoke and steam and has a length of 25 to 85 mm and a diameter of 7 to 9 mm, i.e. the usual dimensions of conventional cigarettes.
  • the inner core 14 of the strand part 12 has a diameter of 2 to 6 mm and consists of tobacco or another permissible material that decomposes with the development of heat. Additives for controlling the combustion are added to the material of the inner core 14, which ensure that the heat generation zone of the strand part 12 is located in the inner core 14.
  • the air-impermeable envelope 16 of the inner core 14 of the strand part 12 is made of paper, a film of tobacco material or another suitable, air-impermeable material and has at least one channel for drawing air into the interior of the inner core 14, in order in this way to burn to control in the heat generation zone in the inner core 14.
  • the air intake duct (s) must extend from the ignition side at least over part of the length of the strand part 12 in accordance with the desired number of trains.
  • the inner core 14 can be formed, for example, by an extrudate or by a compact with embossed channels; as an alternative, the material of the inner core 14 can be formed as an open-pore body; in addition, the sheath 16 of the inner core 14 can be double-walled with continuous inner channels; and finally, the sheath 16 of the inner core 14 of the strand part 12 can contain rod-shaped protuberances on the inside as spacers.
  • the envelope 16 of the inner core 14 can be embossed, corrugated or corrugated, so that free flow channels are created in the longitudinal direction of the coaxial filter cigarette 10.
  • the outer jacket 18 of the strand part 12 consists of tobacco, of other materials made from tobacco, of materials that decompose when heat is added (and / or of materials that are thermally stable at temperatures of up to 500 or 600 ° C.), which are mechanically Allow action to crumble and / or from combinations of such materials and contains additives for controlling the thermal processes as well as the combination of flavoring and flavoring substances, also known as "casing", which are generally present in solvents and contain sugar, humectants and similar substances.
  • Both the additives for controlling the thermal processes and the casing materials are preferably present in high concentration, that is to say in total concentrations of more than 5%, based on the material weight of the outer casing 18 of the strand part 12.
  • the outer jacket 18 can also contain further materials which, when heated to a temperature of approximately 500 ° C., largely change to the vapor and / or aerosol state without releasing undesired components.
  • the outer casing 20 of the outer jacket 18 of the strand part 12 is either impermeable to air or has a very low air permeability of less than 25 ISO units; it consists of a cigarette paper, preferably with a heat-insulating coating, or of a heat-insulating material and also contains additives for controlling the combustion.
  • the outer casing 20 of the outer casing 18 of the strand part 12 can be provided with segment perforations for controlling the temperature gradient in the outer casing 18; the use and / or the The design of these segment perforations depends on the other materials used.
  • the filter part 13 according to the embodiment according to FIG. 1 can consist of a single, coaxial filter element 15, the outer diameter of which is the outer diameter of the Strand part 12 corresponds, that is about 7 to 9 mm.
  • the length of this coaxial filter element 15 is in the range of 10 to 40 mm.
  • the diameter of the filter core 22 is in the range from 2 to 6 mm, thus corresponds approximately to the diameter of the inner core 14 of the strand part 12 and, according to a preferred embodiment, is approximately 2 mm larger than the diameter of the inner core 14.
  • the filtration capacity of the filter core 22 should be more than 95% of the smoke flowing into the filter core 22.
  • the filter core 22 can consist of the usual filter materials, cellulose acetate being preferably used.
  • the envelope of the filter core 22 is impermeable to air and can consist of paper, polyethylene or preferably also of cellulose acetate.
  • the filter jacket 26 has a filtration performance of 0 to 60% of the smoke flowing into the filter jacket 26, in particular a filtration performance of 10 to 30%, and can consist of the known filter materials, but also of tobacco.
  • the filter jacket 26 is made from cellulose acetate.
  • a suitable covering 28 is used in combination with a covering paper, which is impermeable to air, porous and / or provided with a ventilation zone 30 which is preferably produced with laser beams and extends in the circumferential direction.
  • the covering paper, which is used to fasten the filter element 15 to the strand part 12, is porous or pre-perforated, must the wrapping 28 of the filter jacket 26, generally wrapping paper, also be porous. In all other cases, the air permeability of the casing 28 of the filter jacket 26 can be selected as desired.
  • the mixture in the strand part 12 delivers such large amounts of flue gas that the coaxial filter element 15 alone is not sufficient;
  • the embodiment according to FIG. 2 can be used, in which the filter element 15 with the construction discussed above is combined with a diffusion and ventilation element 32 on the strand side.
  • the air permeability of the casing 28 of the outer jacket 26 of the filter part 15 is arbitrary; the cover 28 can either be provided with an air-impermeable covering paper or the same covering paper can be used as with the diffusion and ventilation element 32 to be explained below; in the first case two different covering papers are required for the two filter elements, while in the second case one works with a single, uniform covering paper for the entire filter part 13.
  • the strand-side diffusion and ventilation element 32 has a length of 10 to 40 mm and a diameter which corresponds to the diameter of the outer jacket 18 of the strand part 12, that is to say in the range from about 7 to 9 mm.
  • the diffusion and ventilation element 32 can be designed as a fiber filter with the lowest packing density that can still be processed, or as a hollow element made of a plastic material; Such a hollow element 32 with a cavity 33 is indicated in FIG. 2.
  • the hollow element 32 can contain conventional chamber filter materials or other bulk material which is suitable for reducing the components of the gas phase of the smoke which is produced.
  • the outer surface of the hollow element 32 must have a sufficient number of perforations; the total perforation area must amount to at least 10% of the outer surface of the hollow element 32, the walls of the outer channels 34, which are still to be explained, being in any case impermeable and not perforated.
  • inwardly air-impermeable outer channels 34 are provided, which have a rectangular shape, the longer side of the rectangle being perpendicular to the outer surface of the ventilation and diffusion element 32, as can be seen in FIG. 3.
  • the determining criterion for the shape of the outer channels 34 is the largest possible cross-sectional area with the smallest possible proportion of the outer surface of the element 32.
  • the radial depth of the channels 34 must not be greater than the radius of the outer jacket 18 of the strand part 12, minus the radius of the inner core 14 of the strand part 12.
  • the mouth-side end face of the hollow element 32 i.e. the end face facing the filter element 15, is designed such that the flow from the outer channels 34 into the filter jacket 26 of the subsequent coaxial filter element 15 and the flow from the cavity of the hollow element 32 into the filter core 22 of the subsequent filter element 15 are performed.
  • the ventilation and diffusion element 32 and in particular its separating function between the filter element 15 and the strand part 12 can be achieved by a corresponding partial sealing of the mouth-side end face of the filter element 32 by using a specially shaped one Implement filter elements with an aperture, as is known in principle from DE-PS 34 00 004, or by using an additional intermediate element, not shown in FIG. 2, with the following properties:
