Definitions
- the present invention relates to a bracelet comprising an inner chain composed of articulated links, each link being connected to the neighboring link by a hinged assembly device comprising the overlapping of projections carried by the transverse edges of two neighboring links, said projections being provided holes crossed by a straight pin to pivotally connect said links one after the other, said pin having first and second ends, and a plurality of decorative elements arranged side by side and at least partially surrounding said inner chain.
- the document CH-A-600 815 (GB-A-1 495 853) already describes a bracelet meeting the generic definition which has just been given.
- This bracelet is characterized in that it consists of an inner chain comprising links pivotally joined by pins and an equal number of ornamental external elements covering said links.
- the cited construction has the drawback, however, of proposing means of fixing the internal links to the external elements which consist either in pushing end portions of the external elements onto the internal chain (crimping) or in welding the external elements on the internal links, means which require a long and costly operation.
- the document FR-A-2 502 916 proposes a bracelet made of an inner chain on which come to slide decorative elements provided with retaining slides and in which the links making up the inner chain can slide.
- This construction requires a particular form for the production of the links, a form requiring complicated and therefore expensive machining.
- the document FR-E-91828 also proposes a bracelet made of an inner chain on which are slipped decorative elements provided with slides.
- the inner chain is made up of articulated links two by two by means of a ring connecting the links, a part of each ring being introduced into the backstage of the decorative element. These rings require the use of an additional spacer.
- the present invention is characterized in that said first and second ends of the connecting pins of the links project from the two lateral sides of the inner chain to serve as means for retaining said decorative elements on said inner chain.
- one of the primary purposes of the invention is to use the hinge pins of the links of the inner chain both as a hinge and as means of fixing the decorative elements on said inner chain.
- FIG. 1 shows in perspective a first embodiment of the invention.
- this bracelet comprises an internal chain 1 composed of articulated links 2, 3.
- the link 2 is connected to the link 3 by a hinged assembly device comprising, in the case of the example shown in FIG. 1, the overlapping of the projections 4 and 5 carried by the transverse edge of the link 2 with the projection 6 carried by the transverse edge of the neighboring link 3.
- transverse edge is meant the sides of the inner link which are perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the bracelet.
- Each of the projections 4, 5 and 6 is provided with a hole referenced respectively 7, 8 and 9. These holes are crossed by a pin 10 in such a way that the links are pivotally connected one after the other.
- Figure 1 also shows that the bracelet has a plurality of decorative elements 11 arranged side by side and at least partially surrounding the inner chain 1 when the chain is assembled with these elements.
- the present invention is characterized in that the pins 10 protrude from the two lateral sides 13 and 14 of the chain 1 and serve as means for retaining the decorative elements 11 on the internal chain 1.
- the decorative element 11 has an upper portion 12 which completely covers the inner chain 1 and two lateral portions 15 and 16 which respectively cover the lateral sides 13 and 14 of the chain.
- each lateral portion 15, 16 is provided with a slide 17, 18 into which one of the ends 19, 20 of the pin 10 protruding from the links forming the inner chain.
- the links making up the inner chain are formed from a flat metal strip which is cut and the transverse projections of which are rolled up to form knuckles in which pins will be introduced.
- a chain is known per se from document CH-A-392 958 and has the advantage of being able to be produced automatically in very large series and at low cost.
- the present invention proposes to dress it with decorative elements.
- the inner chain then serves as a support for these decorative elements while remaining very simple to manufacture, the only modification made to this chain being that of the extension of the pins to allow the attachment of said decorative elements to the chain.
- This first embodiment is not limited to the use of a chain with rolled links.
- This chain can just as easily be produced with solid links, as will appear below during the description of the second embodiment of the invention, the interest residing above all, in this first embodiment, in the system backstage presented by the decorative element.
- the decorative element 11 can be manufactured using a wide variety of materials. Preference has been given here to a ceramic element, rich in appearance and which can be sintered at sufficiently precise dimensions that it is no longer necessary to touch it up, except for a polishing operation. It will be noted here that the traction exerted on the bracelet is transferred only to the inner chain and that the decorative elements are devoid of it. This is advantageous in the case of the use of ceramic which would not withstand such a constraint. The fact remains that other materials could be used, such as hard metal or simply steel or alternating elements with different colors.
- FIG. 1 illustrate the second embodiment of the invention which will now be explained in detail.
- Figure 2a is a top view, partially torn of the bracelet according to the second embodiment.
- an inner chain composed of articulated links 30, 31.
- the link 30 is connected to the link 31 by a hinged assembly device, comprising the interlocking of the projections 32 and 33 carried by the edge transverse of the link 30 (see also Figure 3a) with the projection 34 carried by the transverse edge of the neighboring link 31.
- Each of the projections 32, 33 and 34 is provided with a hole referenced respectively 35, 36 and 37 (see also Figure 3a ). These holes are traversed by a pin 38 so that the links are pivotally connected one after the other.
- FIG. 3a shows top view in FIG. 3a and in side view in FIG. 3b (view according to arrow IIIb in Figure 3a).
- These are no longer rolled links, as in FIG. 1, but solid links, stamped in a single operation or machined to form the transverse projections, these projections being pierced with a hole to receive the pin.
- Figure 3b shows that the protrusions 32, 33 and 39 carry rounds 40 and 41 respectively, rounded which allow the inner chain to wrap around the wrist.
- the projection 39 further carries a flat 42 which prevents bending the chain beyond a certain limit.
- the function of the dishes and the roundings will appear more clearly on examining FIG. 2b which is a view according to the arrow IIb in FIG. 2a.
- the inner chain can be made of metal, plastic or even metal covered with plastic.
- Figures 2a and 2b also show that the bracelet comprises a plurality of decorative elements 43 arranged side by side and which surround, at least partially, the inner chain.
- the present invention is characterized in that the pins 38 protrude from the two lateral sides 44 and 45 of the inner chain and serve as means for retaining the decorative elements 43 on said inner chain, which see well in Figure 2a.
- the decorative element 43 shown in detail in FIGS. 4a to 4c, comprises an upper portion 46 which completely covers the internal chain and two lateral portions 47 and 48 which respectively cover the lateral sides 44 and 45 of the chain.
- each lateral portion 47 and 48 is provided with a bore 49 and 50 passing through said lateral portion, a bore in which one of the ends of the pin 38 penetrates as can be seen on the Figure 2a.
- This second embodiment is of course not limited to the use of an internal chain with solid links, this chain can just as easily be produced with links with rolled projections as we have seen above, during of the description of the first embodiment of the invention, the interest residing in this second embodiment, in the drilling system practiced in the lateral portions of the decorative element. If this system has the slight disadvantage of having to drill the decorative elements, it does however have the merit of positioning these elements with great accuracy relative to the links of the internal chain, which is not the case with the sliding system studied above. .
- FIG 2a again shows how the pin 38 is held in place. Is introduced into the hole 37 a socket 51 provided with a median constriction 52 in which is housed a groove 53 formed in the pin 38. This arrangement is known from document CH-A-235 604.
