Definitions

  • the invention relates to a convertible multicolor printing machine, in particular for printing banknotes, according to the preamble of patent claim 1 or according to the preamble of patent claim 2.
  • Such a printing press is known from EP-A 0 132 859 by the same applicant. It is a perfecting machine which consists of two convertible multi-color printing units of essentially the same structure and in which both sides of the paper are printed simultaneously in the printing nip between the first two blanket cylinders of the two multi-color printing units.
  • Each of the two multi-color printing units can either use the offset printing process, which delivers an image with overlaid colors, or the collective printing process, which delivers an image with adjacent colors.
  • the collective printing process is often also called the "Orlof" process and works with a high-pressure plate which has the complete printing pattern and which is inked by several ink selection rollers, also called stencil rollers, via a rubber cylinder called an ink collecting cylinder.
  • At least one of the two multi-color printing units of this known convertible perfecting machine can also be equipped with an additional single-color printing unit, in particular a wet offset printing unit, the plate cylinder of which is in contact with the first blanket cylinder of the relevant multi-color printing unit and transmits an additional single-color image or single-color pattern thereon, which transfers together with the multi-color offset or multi-color collective printing image the relevant paper page is printed.
  • the arrangement is such that in each multicolor printing unit the image transfer cylinder and the plate cylinder, which carries the printing plate in the collective printing position, are located below the first and second blanket cylinders, while the additional single-color printing unit is arranged above the first blanket cylinder.
  • the invention has for its object to expand the possible variations of combined prints, which can be produced with a convertible multicolour printing machine of the type described in the preamble of claim 1 or 2, with simple means that are space-saving and easily accessible.
  • the advantages resulting from the printing press according to the invention consist in the fact that either the image transfer cylinder required for the batch printing, which can in particular be a blanket cylinder, is used both when operating the printing press according to the batch printing process and according to the offset printing process, to carry out an additional printing function, namely to transfer the additional image or pattern from the additional single-color printing unit to the first blanket cylinder of the relevant multi-color printing unit, or else the plate cylinder carrying the collective printing plate in the case of the batch printing process, in the case of the offset printing operation, directly as the plate cylinder of the to use additional single color printing unit.
  • the space required by the plate cylinder of the additional single-color printing unit is eliminated.
  • a plate cylinder, namely that of the additional printing unit is also saved in offset printing operation because this function is taken over by the plate cylinder carrying the printing plate in the batch printing operation.
  • the multi-color printing machine according to the invention is designed as a perfecting machine according to claim 3 and consists of two essentially identical multi-color printing units according to claim 1 or according to claim 2 and thus allows either multi-colored offset printing on both paper sides or one on both paper sides multicolored collective printing or on one side of the paper a multicolored offset printing and on the other side of the paper a multicolored collective printing, in each case an additional single-color printing, preferably by means of a single-color wet offset printing unit, is produced on at least one side.
  • the multicolored offset printing or the multicolored collective printing preferably forms the security background, while the additional monochrome printing provides a skin pattern, which can also be provided with the pattern of an additional security background, which complements and overlays the multicolored security background.
  • the printing press consists of two convertible multicolor printing units I and II, which are of essentially the same structure.
  • Each printing unit has a first blanket cylinder 4 or 14, a plate cylinder 5 or 15, an image transfer cylinder 6 or 16 and a second blanket cylinder 7 or 17.
  • the second rubber cylinder 7 or 17 is colored by convertible cylinders 8 or 18, which are offset plate cylinders in the case of offset printing and color selection cylinders in the case of collective printing, and each of which has its own inking unit 9 or 19 with a different color be colored. All inking units 9 are installed in an inking unit carriage 12 and all inking units 19 are installed in an inking unit unit 22.
  • the two printing cylinders 4 and 14 of the two printing units work together and form the printing nip between them.
  • the paper 1 in sheet form is fed via a stop drum 2 and transfer drums 3 provided with grippers, passes paper dedusting and antistatic devices 3 'arranged on both sides, is taken over by a rubber cylinder 4, on which it is held by grippers, passes through with simultaneous printing on both Paper sides the printing gap between the rubber cylinders 4 and 14 and is then guided out of the machine by means of a chain gripper system 24.
  • the plate cylinder 5 or 15 interacts with the second rubber cylinder 7 or 17, and the image transfer cylinder 6 or 16, which is a rubber cylinder, lies on the first rubber cylinder 4 or 14 at.
  • the multicolor printing unit I has an additional single-color printing unit, the plate cylinder 10 of which rests on the image transfer cylinder 6 and is inked by its own inking unit 11.
  • This additional single-color printing unit is an offset printing unit, preferably, as shown in FIGS.
  • a wet offset printing unit that works with a dampening unit 11a and as a wet offset printing plate with an intaglio printing plate arranged on the plate cylinder, the non-printing surface of which is ink-repellent due to the moistening is made.
  • the inking unit 11 and the dampening unit 11a are accommodated in an inking unit frame 13, which is arranged on the top of the inking unit carriage 12.
  • the multi-color printing unit II has an additional single-color printing unit of the same construction with a plate cylinder 20 resting on the image transfer cylinder 16, an inking unit 21, a dampening unit 21a and an inking unit frame 23.
